Two words properly describe how I feel about this:
THANK GOD!
Jeff Kaplan was to Overwatch what Ben Brode was for Hearthstone. They knew how to market the game for the masses, but totally missed the ball on how to balance the game out. Many of the heroes in the game feel underwhelming to use, leaving to a certain meta of heroes where you got a ton of shit for playing the game how you wanted instead instead of what OTHERS wanted you to play. A game plagued with alt accounts and smurf accounts where the amount of effort you put on the account was a badge of shame. The marketing team was too busy putting fucking lootbox codes on Pringles boxes or Pop-Tarts boxes instead of trying to make the game better.
I cannot understand why the hero worship for Jeff Kaplan. Ben Brode had the same blind leadership with Hearthstone, and the game languished for years while necessary nerfs took forever and a day to happen. Now that Ben Brode has been gone, I can say the game has fared better in the time he has been gone (hard rank resets during the year, faster balance changes, new game concepts with each successive set, two new game modes). Hell, just a month ago the developers added 9 new deck slots out of the blue, without all that bullshit of adding deck slots being confusing to new players.
Hopefully Jeff Kaplan's departure speeds up the game's development so long overdue changes can be done.
It’s alarming how many big names have jumped ship recently, feels like activision wanted all the power and didn’t care about seniority so everyone peaced out. I’m gonna guess he will join dreamhaven like everyone else
like others said as long as the profits are there i'm sure activism will move on like always and replace him. not that it really affects HS much. how long has it been since BBrode left? game hasn't gotten better imho but it hasn't gotten any worse either. so there's that.

Brode and Kaplan are like the two arch-evils of the B logo.

It's really not. The average worker changes jobs every 4 years. In fact, this is often a requirement in order to keep growing your salary (which is a whole other issue).
People change jobs constantly. It's only a perceived "OMG" moment because of notoriety and fan culture.
When a player signs with a new team, there are hundreds of articles written about it. When a salesman moves from selling steel to selling aluminum, no one gives a single fuck.

It does not matter how many "big names" leave Activision as long as their Fiscal Year profits keep increasing.
Poggies they gonna nerf mercy now Poggies

zero fucks given
Jeff was the sole reason i had hopes for Overwatch to come around.
Ben Brode was way less important and his stupid path of no-rebalancing-unless-its-been-4-months will not be forgotten.
