So a hunter shot my divine shield with piercing shot to pop the shield and then I took 3 damage. My minion was of course still alive but the math does not make sense to me. If it just took one damage to the shield I should have taken five (but I thought it had to kill the minion). Taking 3 damage appeared to kill my minions health then the three to me but my minion was still alive. So how does piercing shot interact with divine shields is my question.
This works the same way it did/does with Explosive Runes, though why it works this way is unclear. The logic the game system appears to use is that it checks the card itself - how much health it has - and ignores every other factor about the card. It then deals its "damage" to the minion, and it deals the difference between total damage it deals and how much would have killed the minion to you.
It doesn't make sense from a players perspective, I know. You should have either taken 5 damage, since the 1 damage was used to pop the Divine Shield and the remainder would be sent face, 6 damage because the spell did 0 damage to the minion, or 0 damage because the minion never died. I'd vote the latter makes the most sense.
If we wanted to do some science, somebody could test how Piercing Shot works with Moonfang.

Thanks and I might run a moonfang with a piercing shot and check it out. Appreciated for the feedback.
I would guess at 1 to Moonfang due to damage reduction and 3 ( or 6 - moonfang's current health) to hero. It sucks that the split happens before any damage mitigation/increase as it means we can't do OTKs with Mo'arg Artificer.
Experienced the same: played Piercing Shot on Devout Pupil, expected the enemy hero to take 5 (or 6, even), but he only took 1 damage. Excess damage means six minus damage dealt to the minion. If it has divine shield, you either deal 0 or 1 (if we count eliminating the divine shield as 1 damage).
It makes a lot of sense as it is now. The spell reads Health, applies damage to minion, then applies "6-Health" to enemy hero. The divine shield just blocks any damage for your minion. Moarg does work the same, it just doubles the damage the minion takes, but the spell deals the correct amount.

I tested it with Mo'arg Artificer. Not working. Minion with 2 health took 4 damage and 4 to face.
Rolling Fireball works the same way.

Was the minion in question Taelan Fordring? Because if so I think that match may have been against me hahaha
It was against such minion. And when you shot it it and I saw the out come I was baffled. Good game by the way!
