The mage had attack. I can see in the image that when the interaction happened, the mage had attack value from some card. If an enemy minion attacks you from something while your hero has attack value, the minion will take damage. The reason weapons don’t do that for example is because weapons are “unequipped” when it’s not your turn, or locked away.

Thank you! That clears it up. I was so confused when it first happened.
It is actually visible in the screenshot that the Mage has Inara Stormcrash in play, so that's the source of the attack. But yeah, this interaction can be really confusing, I remember encountering this with Misdirection.

It actually doesn't make any sense, as heroes do not strike back when they are attacked normally. Why would they suddenly be able to on your own turn??

Seems like bad coding...
If anything could be called bad, it would be the design, not coding. The coding is doing exactly as it intends to or Blizzard would’ve fixed it a long time ago. The design choice is that “during your turn, your hero has x attack” either from weapons, hero powers, or spells. If a minion attacks you during your turn, you will still have that attack, since it is “during your turn”. If you believe it’s a bad design choice, that’s subjective.
It makes perfect sense: when a hero attacks a minion, he/she deals the attack value to that minion. Why would it not work the same way when the minion attacks a hero?

It doesn’t remove weapon durability though I don’t think which definitely makes no sense
Exactly the same thing happens with Infiltrator Lilian's deathrattle. If the 4/2 that she spawns attacks face while the enemy hero has some attack value then it dies

Why not? The hero doesn't attack but is attacked. Durability is only removed when the hero attacks.
I mean this situation is uncommon as weapons are inactive during your opponents turn and the only way to see this interaction is through Misdirection or things that triggers attacks like the Frenzy effect on the Raider.

Weapons are not active so heroes don't have attack during their opponents turn. That's also why Inara is worded that way because otherwise minions would take damage during the opponents turn, just like in this case.

Hero weapons are not active on your opponent's turn, but minion weapons are. Sorry, it is just silly.
It would be a lot cleaner to just give heroes 0 attack value whenever they are attacked and be done with it. Now, they can damage minions when attacked, but only in fringe situations.

Part of the reason I come here. Thank you for taking the time to explain that; I learned something.

I don't know what you mean by minion weapons. Just the attack value on minions?
Yes, currently heroes will damage minions when you manage to set up a situation where the hero has an attack value and can trigger an attack during their own turn. But as said, that's a fringe case (now a bit more likely with the Raider), but perfectly fine in my book.
Is this intended? Happened to me recently and would be interested to know if this is a bug or not. If it is intended, does it even make sense (e.g. to expect the average player to expect this interaction more than no damage being dealt)? Ultimately the distinction seems to be in whether or not the damage is dealt based on the minion attacking or who's turn it is, which seems ambiguous or at the very least arbitrary. If a rogue were to have the poison equipped with draw a card every time you attack, would the rogue draw a card?

Nevermind the poison question

My Razormane Raider attacked the enemy hero with its Frenzy effect after being hit with a Flamestrike and then he DIED. Don't know what happened...

I’m guessing the mage cast a druid spell or something to gain attack

Another card I’ve never seen lol
I dont want to open a new thread about that, but i think hysteria should go face, if the enemy got a weapon equipped.
