Everybody knows how broken mage is atm. So come over 50% of my games are vs Mage? Do people really care about winning over having intergrity that much? Wheres the challenge in playing a deck that is supposed to win?
If people continue to take advantage of broken shit in the game, the state of the game will stay shit. Have some courage and integrity, dont be a part of the problem, live in the solution. Lead by example. Grow up. Theres more to life than just winning.
I remember watching an Archery competition, and one competitor broke their Bows string and couldnt shoot. The opponent saw this, and stepped up for their turn, but didnt shoot.
THEY HAD INTEGRITY and didnt want to win that way.
Hearthstone needs more people like this, winrates be damned. With rank floors at every 5 and 10, u cant lose too many ranks playing with intergrity.
What would you teach your children to do? Take advantage of others, of broken mechanics, and win at all cost!! Or, teach them about fair play and why it matters?
Just some thoughts for the day from a regular player who loves the game.
It's been the problem since the game's release. An absolute minuscule percentage of the player base create their own decks, the rest net decks without ever thinking about creating anything themselves. Hearthstone's meta could be insanely fun if people tried things out, but they don't, it's all about pissing others off and picking the most overpowered garbage WHILE emoting every single time they have an insane turn.
It's been pretty fringe and not very good until literally just now. So you better believe I'm going to enjoy it until they axe some cards and make it bad again.
Or maybe they will nerf it just enough that the people you reference in your post that lack integrity will stop playing it and I can go back to not feeling personally attacked for just doing what I think is fun.
Why don't you play casual then, where is your integrity ? There's more to life than ranked modes. "winrated be damned" you said.
Of all the places where people could have a little more integrity, video games is the least of my concerns, it's the one place in the world where having no integrity is of no consequence.
Winning is more fun than losing, people win for fun not to frustrate you.
And if you made this post, it's not because you have more integrity than others, it's because you are losing with your allegedly fair decks and wish you'd win. But the moment you start winning with your deck, people will say you have no integrity and teach you how to raise your children.
These people are not cheating, they are not taking advantage of anyone, they are playing cards available to them. You are also free to concede against any deck you dislike, I do that sometimes, as you said rankfloor can help. And again, winrated be damned you said that too.
As for your archery story, tell me when was the last time you passed your turn when your opponent was AFK for a turn ? Yeah, right. Winning is more fun.
Take control of your own life, nobody forces you to endure spell mage if you don't want to, it's just a game. If the deck is indeed broken Blizzard will nerf it and that's the end of it, people with no integrity will suddently have integrity again and you will seek other children to educate, most likely children of hyper aggro or tickatus players.
Most people are netdecking, because HS is expensive and nobody wants to waste their dust (which is money) on experiments (unless they are pro players, content creators or streamers).
Most people don't consider losing to be fun at all, so they simply play good decks that win games (at least 50/50).
Building your own deck is not an easy task (it takes time, experience, knowledge, understanding of the game mechanics and patience), so most people will always try to avoid it altogether.

You don't really understand card games. I literally never netdeck and i've come up with multiple decks that are very close to popular netdecks. And I still think they are my homebrew decks (they literally are) and I refine or change them multiple times every day to try to figure out the perfect 30 cards combo, while my opponents think I'm a braindead netdecker just because I play a popular deck that has over 50% winrate. I also take inspiration from my opponents decks when I think something looks cool or powerful, and there is nothing wrong with that.
More people than you think try things out, but there's a limit to experimenting for the sake of experimenting. How many cards of the new expansion have you experimented with ? 30%, 40% maybe ? There are some cards you will never try, because you know they're bad or you don't like them (pack fillers etc). Some cards you will never have because you don't have enough dust/gold. We're left with all the good and fun cards we have in our collection. There are nearly infinite combinations of cards yes, but not infinite combination of archetypes, secret paladin is secret paladin even if our decks only have 20 cards in common, at some point whatever you do you will find other players who built a similar deck, even in a perfect world where the internet doesn't exist.
My first deck of the expansion was secret paladin. How could I know it would become a T1 deck at the time ? Should I stop playing it until it becomes a T4 deck so you can feel good about yourself when we face each other ?
Should people refrain from crafting deck of lunacy and try to enjoy it a little bit before it gets nerfed and get a full refund ? They have no reason to.
Very few people build actual meme decks because you don't win with meme decks and if you don't win you don't have fun. Do you know the youtuber MarkMcKz ? He plays insane meme decks in the Wild format. It's pretty fun to watch and you learn a lot of little details about the game, because he uploads the games he win. Now try doing what he does. Try playing 50 unwinnable games in a row on rank silver 10, waiting for the perfect opponent with the lowest IQ and the worst deck ever that will missplay all day long and give you enough time to unload your funny combo. It's just not fun.
Everybody complain about Mage but at the end of the day there is 50% of Mage in ladder.
I understand people complaining about facing mage too much, I understand people who play mage because it is just too good, but I don't understand people doing both.
I see your frustration, especially since 50% of your matchups have been vs. mage (for me: ~25% mage, ~25% paladin). However, i don't think blaming a lack of "integrity" is fair at all: People in HS play to win; and no-minion-mage is a fun deck to play and pilot (for most players). In fact, paladin decks perform even better in Barrens than mage (-> hsreplay), so you seeing mostly mages points that "winning" isn't the number-one-priority for these players. It is a significant factor for choosing what deck to play, but if it were the only one, than all we'd be seeing were the best performing decks.
Another thing: I never got why someone would choose not to take advantage from a situation where the opponent broke his/her sports equipment. At this moment, ones bow / high jump bole / rifle is as important to ones victory as ones eyball - break it, and you will lose. If it were me, I would accept the loss, even if the bow breaking was not my own fault, but a 1:10 000. Not taking advantage of a situation like this has, in my mind, nothing to do with "sportmanship" or "integrity". It's just reasonable. (At a low stakes tournament, it could be a different story.) Just like you can't really blame William Zabka breaking Ralph Maccio's leg in the final fight of Karate Kid: Don't blame the player, blame the game (and Blizz ^^).
Integrity, honor, sportive spirit, courageous, passion for the game, personal touching...
These values are long lost in a distant past with very few exceptions like me and the OP, now with the internet and other facilities an entire generation degenerates completely into lazyness, braindead copy&paste and the lack of any self improvement auto critique.
you got rewards after how many game you played a month win or loose doesnt matter
The rank will still be in play but only for display and nothing else this way, you could encourage players to just play what they want, insted of playing whats is winning.
ofc there should be a penalty so i wont get to many ropes, like a colddown if you afked a whole fight or after 3 afk games or just plain, if you didn't play, the game wouldn't count for you. idk.
this rank system where winning is givning more just appel to take the best deck and win to get your prize.

fair play to you then. its all good and I appreciate where youir coming from. I wouldnt expect a lifelong player to switch classes becuz its suddenly good. cheers.

My dude, that's a great speech, and I wholeheartedly agree that society could use more of this in general.
But.
I love spell mage. And always have since they first revealed Font of Power, Incanter's Flow, Apexis Blast and Evocation way back in Ashes of Outland.

People like to win, especially when your opponent function as a faceless computer software.
I love you Dreadsteed, I will never disenchant you!
"Please don't use decks with the highest winrate when the objective of ladder is to win!"
Cancel culture seeping into video games, great.
Asking for integrity in 2021, come on, aren't you living on this planet ?
chill out, it's just a game, don't take it so seriously

1) Find a friend or two.
2) Set whatever rules you want.
3) Play
tegridy?!
There, fixed.
Sorry, but it's a competitive game. The original goal is to defeat the opponent, not to play some fancy homebrew or a flashy combo.
You can choose to prioritise that over winning, but you can't choose for your opponent.
Your post sounds like you deliberately decided to take off your bow string and now expect your opponent to do the same. That's not how it works.
tl;dr: It probably won't change anytime soon.

you see a mage player and you see a person who has no honor
Cancel culture has seeped into gaming a lonnnng time ago my friend. It's pretty much the only reason sites like kotaku and polygon exist.
