Lunacy mage loses to control warlock more than not. Too much removal and healing and lunacy can only transform cards to 3 more mana to wat isi available. It isn't a matter of predicting the cards but either randomly getting garbage or tickatus burns or lock removes. Thee is a huge potential in this meta with a slight tweek.
I don't think the power level of the decks is as much the problem as how bad they feel to play against. Lunacy Mage has no counterplay not necessarily because it's that strong, but because you literally can't play around their cards - neither they nor you know what they hell they have in their deck. Secret Paladin runs into the usual secret deck problem where you can't play around their secrets because it's not like a Sword of the Fallen is picking the best one to cast, and even if they play it from hand sometimes it's just to fill mana - Oh My Yogg is a particular problem, since every time a secret comes in play you have to re-check whether it's Oh My Yogg and that often doesn't leave you with mana to clear their board, or if it does you've now cast one card check, are committed to playing a clear, and then your third card summons a 3/4 Galloping Savior for them, so it's not like you can get the board back. Special shoutout to having to watch the Pen Flinger animation for minutes on end in every match against a Paladin or Rogue - they really need to speed it up.
I'm still playing around with dumb and bad homebrew decks and climbing relatively alright (I'm hovering at about 50% winrate overall - usually a couple percent lower, but I have gone over 50% at times -, having played a decent chunk of Taunt Druid, Leoroxx OTK Hunter, and Lock and Load Malygos Hunter, all really awful decks), so I really don't think Lunacy Mage in particular is as insanely powerful as people say, but it is a very unfun meta to play in, which is really sad because this is the most fun I've had actually building decks in forever.
Mage is tough, but I’ve been consistently beating them AND Paladins with Watchpost decks. Watchpost is a direct counter to both of these decks and is a TON of fun to play. The great thing is that you can put them into any class and be fairly successful, though certain classes have advantages by being able to duplicate or resurrect them (mainly Priest and Paladin). Yes, I am aware I am playing Paladin Watchpost to defeat Paladin (ironic, but at least it’s a control themed deck), but it feels great to consistently beat All Spell Mage and Secret Paladin.
This meta is just built around what sells - look at all the videos on you tube - trolden, or others.
full of casino mages doing the impossible with a single “get ten random cards that cost three more”... yeah right, why not make the entire deck 10 mana cards that cost 0 mana??
it not fun to play against but it’s what people want...gambling in the hope of an easy win
Meta just needs a fix just like all the other ones with 1-2 week(s) of life.
Mage is obvsly stupid, definetly a no brainer deck, but the rest is pretty fine, Pen Flinger probably needs a nerf too, but i really enjoyin' it (probably wrong)
People cried about Aggro rogue, then about secret paladin, then about watchposts, then about druids, now about mages. All of these decks are strong and there are even more decks that are at least competitive. Give it some more time before calling it.
I can understand talking about cards like Deck of Lunacy or Pen Flinger that are extremely unfun to play against, regardless of wether they are broken or not, but it's too early to talk about balance.
"Meta isn't settled" is nonsense and always has been. DoL and other Mage tools are broken, no way around that.
I’ve been having fun playing Watchpost Rogue, but do people hate that too? Idk. Meta seems fun to me.
Regarding Lunacy Mage: the biggest problem I see is that it’s horribly unfun to play against, mostly due to the long-ass turns where you’re just watching them generate 15 cards for 2 minutes.
Lunacy mage is indefensible bullshit. It is outrageously overpowered if they draw Lunacy on turn 2. The pool of spells that works well with the deck is too strong. And springwater is the dumbest card to be printed in years. Free draw two cards on turn 4?
The meta would be much, much healthier if they did the following:
1. Delete Lunacy, or at least increase its cost to 4.
2. Delete Pen Flinger or make it so it can only target minions
3. Reduce the durability on Sword of the Fallen to 2
4. Reduce the health on the watchtowers so they can be killed more easily
That's the main problem right there, it's just not fun. Six days into a new expansion and it's stale. There too many cards currently defining the meta that just feel bad to play against and its the same offenders as usual. Pen Flinger, Tikatus, Il'gynoth. I'm not even going to bother talking about Mage now cause that's just flat out busted. Nerfs for that bullshit should of been out like days ago if you ask me.
Ive seen a lot of people say it's one of the worst ever.
Yeah I've seen that every 4 month for the past 7 years.
This meta is pretty damn good so far, some bullshit here and there but overall pretty fair, interactive, viable for all archetypes, and nobody wins on turn 1. Yes, some classes are more lucky than others, as usual, it's not a problem unless you're that guy who only plays one class.
I don't see Lunacy mage nearly as often as some people pretend. And it's honestly far from the most bullshit deck we've ever seen. Control warlock right now is more bullshit than lunacy mage, yet people don't bitch as much about it, cause it's not random mana cheating so I guess it doesn't feel unfair, but infinite health, resources and removals is just as frustrating as lunacy mage for the wrong matchup.
Experimentation is also a lot more fun than it used to, because there are so much more good cards in every expansion now, old expansions used to have dozens of pack fillers and a ton of trash legendaries, once the T1-T2 meta decks were figured out there was absolutely nothing else to do but to join them. And even if the meta and the community don't follow you on your experimentation journey and just stick to refined netdecks, you can and that's wonderful, cause you couldn't before, non-meta cards and decks were just too weak. Now you can climb ladder with pretty much any combination of cards, assuming you know how to build a deck.
One thing I dislike about recent metas compared to the old ones is how polarized the matchups are. You get 50% win rate overall, but that's because you get close to 100% WR against some decks and close to 0% against others. Every game used to be winnable and every game was a struggle, a long time ago.
Also guys, there's a meta outside of legend and diamond 5 ranks. The more you climb the more toxic and restricted it's gonna get, it's a competitive online game, you can't expect anything else and the devs can mitigate it, but certainly not fix it.
It was quite OK and diverse before I hit Legend. At Legend, it's 75% Mage/Paladin and I have to play one of them to barely have a positive winrate.
so basically your part of the problem too. lol " I was only following orders" lol "i was just keeping a plus 50%winrate" lol
I must be a weirdo because I wont play broken decks ever.I find no challenge in winning games with decks im supposed to win with, and my integrity just wont let me do it, winrate be damned! I will still get to at leadt D5 with my fair, home brew counter the meta deck.

how come nobody is tslking about the new 4 mana draw 2 cars for free? I has a Mage 6 cards on turn 4, then draw another 2 the next turn for 1 mana.....so draw 7 cards by turn 5........and then on top of that, Lunacy spells....and then the burn spells inhand....draw2 for free is broken.....

One of the most broken cards in the history of Hearthstone.

'integrity' hahaha, get over yourself. Going out of your way to not do something simply because others do isn't 'integrity'. I work with someone who refuses to watch game of thrones 'because it was too popular'. He could literally be depriving himself of his favourite ever show because 'it's cool to not do things other people do'.
Instead of basing what you do on others, just do you. Some things lots of other people will like too, others you'll be in a bit of a niche.
You literally cannot control what you like or dislike. Your 'integrity' would be far more intact if you were just honest with what you like and afford others the consideration to like what they like.
I don't find it all that fun coming up against badly constructed, janky, crappy 'homebrew' decks. I'd rather play against a deck that isn't a hot mess. I've played against some decks that I actually felt bad beating, they must have been put together by a ten year old. But if you want to do that, cool, enjoy.
It doesn't seem that bad in terms of the field of potentially viable decks right now. You can build pretty much any style of deck and see alright success with it. The only reason it sucks so bad is because everyone decided they just want to play spell mage instead for god-knows-why.
Over 40% of my matches are against the exact same boring-ass list

100% worst meta in 2 years. Least variety and most highroll/unfun decks.

I think with some little changes, this can be a great expansion.

It's just not fun. Mage is RNG and Rogue is pen flinging a million times.

the game has to be fixed or it will be dead again!
paid actor confirmed!
Yes. Meta is unfun. All you see is braindead mages and paladins 24/7
I know that Blizzard rarely buffs cards but seriously, Priest and Warrior need some help in Standard.
