How bad is this meta exactly? Ive seen a lot of people say it's one of the worst ever. I mean, look at the stats. Mage, Paladin and Warlock pretty much crush every other class. Lunacy, tickatus and secret pally manage to keep just about every other class out of the meta. If you're not being rng'd by mage with crazy spells then your deck is being burned away with Tickatus or out skilled by paladin secrets. Imo, this is def one of the worst.
HSReplays is currently tracking thirteen decks in the green. Warrior and Priest are shut out, with nothing particularly viable on ladder. The other classes don't have a great deal to choose from, apart from Paladin - the class has the top three decks on ladder.
FWIW - the devs have already tweeted that they will assess the meta-game tomorrow, with a balance patch to follow. They've explained that they will preferentially target last year's cards for nerfs, rather than the new stuff - Penflinger and Tickatus (perhaps others, as I've only read a couple tweets) have been singled out.
People cried about Aggro rogue, then about secret paladin, then about watchposts, then about druids, now about mages. All of these decks are strong and there are even more decks that are at least competitive. Give it some more time before calling it.
I can understand talking about cards like Deck of Lunacy or Pen Flinger that are extremely unfun to play against, regardless of wether they are broken or not, but it's too early to talk about balance.
lmao, no it's not? It doesnt take a genius to see that this meta is indeed very toxic and that certain classes are tier S while most others are barely viable to complete shite. There doesnt need to be any more time.
This meta is literally unplayable until mage nerf.
Palaidin is not big problem IMO, but mage is so cancerous atm.
Yes mage is cancerous, especially his random deck card. But meta is unplayable for new archetypes only. Old things like face rogue or face hunt kill mage easily

That's exavtly the problem. You're either bottlenecked into playing boring face decks or you just lose.
Lunacy mage is the most OP deck that has ever existed in hearthstone ever that I can remember, its completely ruined the game. Both warlock and paladin are fine, the only people complaining about paladin are the people playing lunacy mage. I've endured midrange druid, patron warrior, aggro demon hunter (name any OP deck of the past you can think of) and none of them were this OP.
Tickatus could maybe do with a slight nerf but it doesn't seem too bad tbh, I've lost games where I've played it twice and I've won games when I haven't played it at all.
The sooner the mage nerf comes the better. I wanna play fun interesting decks with the new cards not damn secret paladin and I just refuse to play lunacy mage - there's just no fun in trying to play one card to win the game.
Ive seen a lot of people say it's one of the worst ever.
Yeah I've seen that every 4 month for the past 7 years.
This meta is pretty damn good so far, some bullshit here and there but overall pretty fair, interactive, viable for all archetypes, and nobody wins on turn 1. Yes, some classes are more lucky than others, as usual, it's not a problem unless you're that guy who only plays one class.
I don't see Lunacy mage nearly as often as some people pretend. And it's honestly far from the most bullshit deck we've ever seen. Control warlock right now is more bullshit than lunacy mage, yet people don't bitch as much about it, cause it's not random mana cheating so I guess it doesn't feel unfair, but infinite health, resources and removals is just as frustrating as lunacy mage for the wrong matchup.
Experimentation is also a lot more fun than it used to, because there are so much more good cards in every expansion now, old expansions used to have dozens of pack fillers and a ton of trash legendaries, once the T1-T2 meta decks were figured out there was absolutely nothing else to do but to join them. And even if the meta and the community don't follow you on your experimentation journey and just stick to refined netdecks, you can and that's wonderful, cause you couldn't before, non-meta cards and decks were just too weak. Now you can climb ladder with pretty much any combination of cards, assuming you know how to build a deck.
One thing I dislike about recent metas compared to the old ones is how polarized the matchups are. You get 50% win rate overall, but that's because you get close to 100% WR against some decks and close to 0% against others. Every game used to be winnable and every game was a struggle, a long time ago.
Also guys, there's a meta outside of legend and diamond 5 ranks. The more you climb the more toxic and restricted it's gonna get, it's a competitive online game, you can't expect anything else and the devs can mitigate it, but certainly not fix it.

Meanwhile VS data reaper shows that from d5 to legend paladin + mage represent 67% of the meta, being the two classes with 50%+ winrate
I challenge someone to point an era where 2 classes represented 2/3 of the play field
Its not an hyperbole anymore, this IS IN FACT the worst meta of ALL TIME.
We need nerfs ASAP. And not slight nerfs, I'm talking about BIG NERFS. Game is unplayable right now. Anyone still defending it just wants to abuse these 2 classes for easy wins for a few more week.s
I like to counter Lunacy Mage with a sweet little homebrew Warlock deck ... Deck of Chaos Warlock (sans Tickatus) ... have not lost to mage once ... I've needed to get used to playing around the Paladin secrets, was rough in the beginning, but now I just don't attack and throw up a wall of taunts until I'm ready to deal with them ... anything with Deathrattles is difficult to beat.
The good thing about the deck is that it is not 100% reliant on drawing Chaos ... there are secondary and tertiary etc. win conditions to grind out any control match-up, even against Tickatus Warlocks ... often the deck is so stacked with Soul Shards (love Tamsin, what a great card!) that Ticaktus just burns a bunch of those.
That said ... I absolutely hate the Mage deck ... just like I couldn't stand "created by" Priest even if it wasn't that good. It is okay to have some randomness ... such as a "discover" or two ... Deck of Lunacy should be more like Renounce Darkness ... just one class is possible. "Transform all spells in your deck into ones that cost (3) more and are from a single random class. (They keep their original cost.)"
That'll kill the card, but I'm okay with that really, meme away.

Low samle size, but I dont have that much time to play. But mages and paladins are really everywhere.
I just feel like anything innovative gets put down by the immense amount of Pally and Mage decks. If you play pally, you beat all the mages, if you play mage you beat everything but pally.
It just becomes, why bother inventing something new, if it has to fight 10 mages in a row and win every single game
The thing is, if Mage gets nerfed, you can easily tech for Paladin and if Tickatus gets a nerf, you can easily combat Pala with several control decks. Right now, if you tech for Mage, it doesn't seem to actually matter. Ogremancers don't matter, Cult Neophyte has 0 effect on their game plan and Robes of Protection also gets taken care off without any problems. There's also no deck that's fast enough to kill it. We're quite literally stuck.
Have been playing since about May 2014. This is DEFINITELY not THE or one of the worst metas, by any means. Sure, mage, paladin, and warlock are bopping but a couple classes have easily ruled just about every expansion other than maybe, one I think? And it's not that toxic compared to some old metas, by any means. Full charge face hunter that had you dead by turn 4-5 when all the cards were 1/3 of the stats with much weaker battlecries. That was fun, since you couldn't stop it since it was straight out of hand autopilot, I watched friends that weren't that good at Hearthstone, averaging rank 16-17 usually, and they took it to Legend at 80%+ winrate. Undertaker hunter is still the most oppressive deck of all time, and dear lord that one was toxic.
Honestly though, sure, some decks are annoying. That is the case in literally every single expansion, especially post-rotation, with certain decks dominating it. And yeah, some of them aren't fun or interactive to play against. Again, happens most expansions. But like, overall? Barrens is probably middle of the road, average on post-expansion meta. It's what I, and you should, have been expecting. And tbh, I'd rather face a Tickatus warrior or secret paladin where I have a chance and can sort of do something other than just watch a hunter burst me for 30 to the face by turn 5, all out of hand where I can't do anything except play chillwind yeti as my best card.

It was quite OK and diverse before I hit Legend. At Legend, it's 75% Mage/Paladin and I have to play one of them to barely have a positive winrate.
The meta is fine, and it's not even settled yet.
People cried about Aggro rogue, then about secret paladin, then about watchposts, then about druids, now about mages. All of these decks are strong and there are even more decks that are at least competitive. Give it some more time before calling it.

Such a wall text to defend a broken meta, lol

Would probably be nice if things like Refreshing Spring Water weren't a literal pot of greed in spell mage
