Normally there would be a couple of good legendaries that I would want in each major expansion, not this time. It all feels a bit rushed and boring.
compare the new set to the gala awaking... gala introduced major changes to the game and strategy, what each expansion should be! This one is is another “just pay to get a bunch of cards” one!
Based on my experience with MtG, this looks like a deliberate toning down of the power creep. A very powerful group of sets is being replaced with one that is more... sane.
The set isn't as bad as a lot of people make it seem, it's just not as absurd as what is leaving.
As for buying vs crafting, you should at least consider buying packs until you find any common and rare cards you intend to use, as it is a big waste of resources to craft cards of those rarities.
I'm F2P sitting on 12.7k gold after buying both shaman and hunter portraits and I only log to finish daily quests. How did you guys end with so little gold?

Bullshit. I am free to play and log for the dailies, bought the miniset with gold and Im at 8500g.

Did you have gold over from the last expansion? I bought the pass on release and have about 13.5k, haven't spent any of it. I have done the daily and weekly quests (minus one week of weekly quests) but plenty of playing outside of that and haven't spent any gold other than the 2k for the mini set.
To say you're completely f2p and only do your daily quests and have that amount of gold seems a bit odd. You've apparently played less than I have and haven't bought the pass which gives a decent xp boost. I've had a couple of periods in thsi cycle where I've played for a few hours every day and racked up xp.
Makes sense of you've added to an already existing amount of gold, though you have no indication of that. Not saying you're lying, just that you seem to have earned about the same gold as I did, in far less play time, maybe I'm doing something wrong.
ignore the trolls the one group that clearly doesn't benefit for sure from the new reward system is thesuper casuals.
Just Logging in before and doing the daily would = 6-8k G minimum, Now its less with the Rope Reward based system.
It looks like you are the troll based on the wording you chose.
As a f2p player i never made more than 9k gold with the previous reward system (often about 8), whereas this time I've saved up almost 12k.
After the original misrepresentation of the sytem, that is mostly Blizzard's fault, it is now clear to anyone who bothers to think for themselves that the new system is more rewarding for everyone.

I did the same like every time, doing daily Quests and maybe play a few games. With the old system, i had about 7-8k Gold, with the new one i'm sitting at 11,5k Gold.
Strangely enough, I am in a similar situation. I plan to become rare complete on 1st (with the help of end-of-month rewards and stockpiled book of heroes packs) and don't buy anything for quite some time. If I'll need any specific legedndary\epic I'll just craft it from my 8K dust stockpile. I just don't believe that many legendaries\rares will be meta in wild that is my main mode. Neither they look interesting for brewing
Blizzard may force me to buy packs with new heroes for duels and\or similar requirements for mercenaries or I may be mistaken and this set will be impactful enough.
15k gold is 150 pack that will give you all commons and rares, a couple of epics and about 8 legendaries, 50k dust will barely be enough to get all the other cards, so he still needs to manage his resources or this stack of dust will disappear very fast

The first expansion after a new cycle is a bit of a reset so it makes sense to pay foundation's for archetypes and then build on them.
Don't forget that GA was the last set of content for that year and wasn't far off the next rotation. Anything truly busted isn't then around for 2 years. These cards will be in standard for the maximum amount of time, they can't set an extremely high power level.
I am personally really, really looking forward to it. The meta will be completely changed and it looks to be more board focused which should help it become more strategy centric. There's quite a few legendaries I'm looking forward to using to be fair.

The difference is that Barrens is the first expac of the cycle and cannot be that powerfull while gala awekening was a mini set for the last expac in the cycle and has to be broken in order to see any play
you will need a TON of the cards eventually, maybe not today or tomorrow but at least after the next expansion meaning you wanna get as many cards as possible and this is ALWAYS (!!) the case !! there is no "oh i dont like the cards, they will not see any play, no need to get many cards.." 3 months later...shi1111et I need these cards.
Not quite sure how many I will buy either, will probably buy between 70 and 120.
The thing is, standard decks get outdated very quickly and are expensive, so I have almost stopped crafting them, maybe 1-2 per expansion. I don't have time to learn to play them anyway. The best Wild decks are much smarter long-term investments.
what are the Saviors of Uldum & Rise of Shadows adventures?

I have 9k now and planned to buy new tavern pass only for exp boost

xp boost is only available with real money, 20$ or € if i remember correctly

I'm feeling the same as OP.
My rules:
if i want many commons and rares - buy 40 packs
If after 40 packs I'm still missing at least 25% legendaries i want, buy another 40 packs.
IF i'm not intrested in commons and rares - 10 packs.
I don't rememeber, when i wanted less commons and rares, than this expansion.

Il'gynoth
18k gold, 21k dust if I push the button.

Well, I ended up spending all my gold on packs. Had a great deal of luck. Got 6 legendaries, almost all that I wanted.
No regrats.
