I will say, that's a pretty big number of board interaction without a payoff or win condition. And honestly? That IS pretty bogus, and Priest is my least favorite class. In fact, what they've gotten here makes them even MORE frustrating, as they'll just repeatedly wipe the board until I run out of resources and/or give up out of frustration.
All I can do is hope that this is deliberate and that the Mini-Set provides the oomf Priest needs to end games in less than 40 minutes.
What they couldn't do in 6 expansions is not happening with just 3 cards.
Play Soothsayer's Caravan, create a 1/1 copy of it and give both Divine Shield...steal your opponent's win condition
Ez gameplan lol
On a more serious note, I would need to see all dragons in standard after rotation, but I have a good feeling about Draconic Studies and Skeletal Dragon as good value options for a control deck? Create your new Yseras and win from that? Pretty sad that I can't think of anything else
After rotation there will be 14 neutral dragons + Skeletal Dragon in the standard rotation.
The new Alex and Runaway Blackwing will be decent discover options as they can offer some tempo removal. The new Ysera and Onyx Magescribe offer value, the new Maly can offer some insane card draw, but the rest of the dragons are mediocre to garbage
Im not really sure what you are supposed to play if you want to play Priest.
Aggro control with zero draw?
Silence Priest with hardly any payoff and bad hands galore?
Im at a loss. Someone out there smarter than me give me the answer.
Don't forget we lost:
Plague of death, mass dispel, silence (now priest has no silence capability yet other classes do), mind control (yes we didn't put it in deck but if we generated it we used it), shadow madness, shadow word: pain, penance (for heal and removal), forbidden words.
It really leaves priest in a bad position. The board clears we got also do not hit face. We have no capability to hit face except for holy ripple (malygos is rotating and we don't have class spell damage) so 1 dmg to face... wow.
Looking at what other classes have got is absolutely scary. I don't know how they can turn priest around throughout the year, they dug a pretty large grave for them... oh speaking of grave, losing grave rune too, which on a taunt was fantastic if not sapped/silenced.
The legendary we got that AoE's for the healing done is interesting, yet it's a one off battlecry, which does not hit face. The typical way to win a game of hearthstone is to actually hit your opponents face with something, be it a minion, a spell, or fatigue. Priest can't do this enough with the tools we have been given. If that legendary was an 'each turn, or end of turn deal dmg' at least that would require its removal from the board... now they just ignore it. I don't know, I'm getting tired of the same rhetoric, but devs like iksar just don't seem to care if priest dwell at the bottom.
Yes I understand some pro's can create magical priest decks that seem to do amazing versus their legend meta, and so streamers etc say how OP priest are when in fact in the pleb league range that I sit in P10 to D1(which is the majority of players) at any given time, those same decks just don't work always as you'll end up queued against some janky deck that totally counters you.
I could hope and pray for a 3 mana priest spell that summons 2x 2/4's with taunt, or a 2 mana, spellburst minion that heals a random friendly character for 5, or anything else, but alas no. We can't effectively defend ourselves. Sethekk exists, It's hardly reliable though and prone to removal. Nazmani exists but doesn't stop us getting hit in the face. Fingers crossed we can make something of all this during this expansion, hoping for something viable in the near future.
The worst part of priest right now is that there is almost no draw in the entire class, which means that it can't even effectively function as a control class in most matchups. If it had a significant amount of draw, at least you could run a C'Thun gameplan.
That said, I do see exactly one path for Priest to be a viable (probably tier 2) tempo deck: Rally Corrupt Priest.
Well that's a tough one. On the one hand I'm very glad that whole Convincing InfiltratorMass Resurrection bs won't be around, which made me hate Priest a lot. On the other hand I emphasize with people who want to play priest and while I feel like priest could actually be a cool class, the tools for something interesting like a Tempo Rally Priest don't really look strong enough yet.
Anyway, I really hope Priest will tend towards a somewhat more proactive, more minion-based strategy. That infinite value generation thing dragging you to fatigue (without ever really threatening you until then) was very annoying to face.
When I started one of my accounts, one of the first legendaries I got was the priest quest and I played a priest deck through much of the apprentice ranks. It was actually fun, playing minions with lots of health, keeping them alive with heals and gradually taking over board control. It would be cool if that could be the way priest is heading.
Looks like they're pushing a spell heavy priest. Priest already has a lot of cards that support that so that's the first thing to try. Hopefully they're moving Priest in an interesting new direction but he's just not there yet.
I would gladly see random generation removed from the game entirely tbh.
Then... go play a physical card game? Generating spells has been a part of the classes' identity since Un'goro. They should change Sethekk and Renew to give a specific range to the cost of the spells they generate, but otherwise pretty much all the problem generation is not in the new year.
Looking at all the cards of priest I assume in the next expansion this class Will focus on control.
The class should not get any card draw because of the many card generation the class has.
So if the class wants card draw the the card generation cards needs to be toned down.
Its one or the other not Both.
This is clearly not true, though. Mage has both. Warrior has both. Rogue has had both (with Lackeys). Priest has card draw ultimately, but it's very limited, and they are clearly supposed to rely more on consistent card generation effects; but it's still not accurate to say that they can't have both.
Sethekk Veilweaver makes up for the lack of card draw to a degree, and Priest has other options for gaining value and cycling through the deck (Alura, Raise Dead, G'huun, Thrive in the Shadows, Insight). And then there's card draw/value generation every class has access to (Voracious Reader and Malygos and Ysera). But not every deck can afford to put the whole Sethekk package in.
I think everyone is completely overreacting to what Priest was given this coming year, and are far too concerned with traditional "win conditions" and "card draw". It looks great to me, especially since Dragon is rotating and a lot of the incredibly strong board clears and removal tools are rotating. As are the endless value and randomness which was contributed by A LOT of the Dragon cards (looking at mage here). Ysera and Malygos will provide relevant value, those are win conditions.
It sucks that Shadow Form is so much more boring than Wildfire mage, and that Wildfire is so much better designed than Shadowform is. But Shadow Form is still a good card in priest, and it does have it's advantages (Thrive in the Shadows, Palm Reading to discover and reduce it's cost).
The main thing I'm seeing priest gain in the new expac is something they've kinda slowly been gaining over time. Pressure. Their boards clears are no longer full board clears, you can build up a board while destroying your opponent's. Xyrella is insanely good at this. There are lots of options for priest decks anyway. And finishers in the form of Alexstrasza, Shadowy Spirit and Shadow Form.
Dragon Priest, Outpost Priest, Spell Priest, Tempo Priest, Heal Priest, Corrupt Priest, maybe N'zoth priest -- there are lots of options. I dunno what's going to stick. But saying there are no options for decks when it's a whole new year and everything's been turned on it's head is premature and overdramatic.
Errr, I don’t want to go and play a physical card game though. That is an absolutely absurd reaction to me wishing random generation was removed (at least from powerful cards).
It's pretty funny how priest got a lot of cards supporting a "have a lot of spells in hand" archetype, yet no real card draw to support it. And Refreshing Spring Water got released.. as a mage card! While this would have been a pretty good card to support such archetype.
Also, "no card draw" is like the worst class identity design ever. It's a card game, if you say a class can't just put card draw to play the cards it put in its deck, you're not setting the class to be a particularly fun one.
Also, the whole heal/lifesteal cards priest got this expansion come right as the heal quest is rotating out, which would have given the archetype atleast a way to win the game. Whatever priest deck comes out of this expansion, it's not going to be anything new. Priest got some tools this expansion, but no new archetype supporting cards. Self-mill warlock or hero power mage might not turn out to be amazing, but atleast it's something new or supported in different ways than it was in the past.

I understand that each class needs to have strengths and weaknesses, however “no card draw” and “no wincons” is taking the piss a bit.

Bye bye priest players, you will never be missed
Not quite, but Death's Head Cultist can be useful instead.
Wildfire + Mordresh is exactly what they should have bring to Shadow Priest but no ...

Does the mage one go up with each one
It seems like the new outposts can work in priest?
Regarding the draw aspect, Auctioneer + Nazmani is probably the way to go for C'Thun lists.
I was thinking about it.
Create deck with rally, taunts, all 3 watch posts or maybe without one that buffing your board.
And maybe cthun for winning condition?
I think I'm going to try this : Shadowed Spirit + Death's Head Cultist can make a nice value with Rally!
Little value + Card draw + Face damage
