After the backlash over the rewards being worse with the new system, Blizzard claimed that they took into account "SPECIAL EVENTS" that would help achieve better rewards than in the older system and that these events would boost the rewards to the same or higher amount than in the old one. However, was there ever an event that allowed players to get more rewards or any additional reward track EXP/REWARDS duringthe last expansion? If not, then did they scrap it, try to bull*hit us with their *apology/explanation* or did they just forget about it?
Just want to hear your opinions guys/girls.
And just to clarify, I'm fine with the new system, it does feel a little bit better than the older one but not to the extent that Blizzard claimed at the start.
They didn't forget anything. Due to the backlash at launch, they announced a bunch of changes to the rewards track including more levels with less XP grind per level, subbing out many packs in the rewards track for gold, and the removal of events to make room in the base system for more rewards.
Basically all of the outrage made them give up on having any of the rewards be a surprise to the players and they increased transparency instead. And it looks like they're keeping that standard with the announcements today detailing out the entire rewards track for Barrens and even a little infographic showing the differences between the Darkmoon Faire track and the Barrens track.
ETA: I believe, the event sirnephrosis is remembering was the Blizzard 30th anniversary celebration. I had kind of forgotten that but I dont think that was what they meant when they originally talked about events. I could be wrong on that but I'd think there was an in-game event or two that got cut due to all the outrage. Regardless, he is right that there were some freebies handed out besides the rewards track.
Yeah, I see your point. However, didn't we receive those freebies even before the new system?
Plus it's honestly almost impossible to keep up with HS in terms of cards, since there are 3 yearly expansions, including mini-sets, amounting to around 510 cards. I've been playing this game since it's release and I've probably not played it for only 2-3 months during this period. Yet I'm still faraway from collecting all the cards. I'm f2p only btw.
It's just not that much of an improvement when each class now has 2 legendaries per expansion and with demon hunter it will be even harder from now on. If you wish to play with all the classes.
Honestly, I'm just waiting till they implement something like a pack token to get the packs you want or a legendary/epic/rare card token which you can exchange for any card instead of receiving random ones at the start of each expansion, which can be most of the time usless, since the legendary itself is bad or you just don't play the class or don't have the cards to make a deck with it.

Lmfao why would you expect to be able to have a full collection as f2p
F2P you can play the game and make a decent few decks that are competitive. Why would they make it so anyone could get a full collection as F2P? There would be no incentive to spend then and the game would run out of money.
If you want to have a viable deck with every class then you're gonna have to spend money. That's how games work. The company has to make money in order to actually develop content, and they're not gonna make enough off just hero skins and tavern pass.

With the old reward system I could keep up pretty well as f2p. Would usually aave up about 5k gold for launch then with the 80-150g I would earn per day I would dump into arena for a few months. I wasnt good enough at it to go infinite, but even with 3 wins you would make a profit over just buying packs whenever you had 100g.
I just started playing again so I only have level 12 rewards track, which has been nice, but most of it came from a full page of quests as the main source of exp/reward. I can win 30 games and still not get a level whereas before I would have won 100g, which hurts f2p players who are really reliant on grinding out a bunch of wins to build their collections.
Well in the new BattlePass they will "FIX IT" They added ONE MORE PACK in the rewards plus some some cosmetic useless golden cards in between levels. SO There FIXED No Need to Complain any more.

Pack token is basicly same as 100g so there is no need for that. I dont get it why you need pack token. Imagine 100g as a pack token and different visual than number 100.
I can win 30 games and still not get a level whereas before I would have won 100g, which hurts f2p players who are really reliant on grinding out a bunch of wins to build their collections.
Are you sure about that?
It depends on where you are on the track exactly how much you get for the exp, but beyond level 50 it's 50 gold for 1500 xp. So even if you're earning only 10xp per game (Which I know for a fact to be lowballing it), you'll still be earning 100 gold, And that's 10xp per game; you don't even need to win to get it, which can halve the time needed to play

I think you slipped a zero there. If you were getting ten xp per game, even if you made it to the 1500xp per level stage (which skips a lot of larger levels first), it would take 300 games, not 30, to get 100g. So yes, I'm sure about that.
As you rightly pointed out, 10xp per game is low, but in order to get back to the 30 games per 100g, you'd have to get up to 100xp per game, which I think is extremely optimistic.

Enjoying Americans winning in the Olympics is forbidden because it is political. A 14 plus page discussion of state-sponsored lawsuits against a multi-national corporation based on harassment, discrimination, and wrongful death allegations is apparently not political enough to raise an issue.

Losed games also give XP instead of only winned games
I earn like 60-70 xp per game on average. The easily translates to 1500 exp per 30 wins. Unless I go on a crazy win streak, but then again it also lets me play bad decks for fun and still make gold progress.
They didn't forget anything. Due to the backlash at launch, they announced a bunch of changes to the rewards track including more levels with less XP grind per level, subbing out many packs in the rewards track for gold, and the removal of events to make room in the base system for more rewards.
This is the answer to what happened. The increased XP that was planned to happen during events was, in part, shifted to simply be part of the reward track because people are greedy/impatient.
"We’re reducing the requirements of the current rewards track by a total of 37,000 XP (nearly 20%), which will make mid-to-late levels easier to reach and adjust for the absence of XP events."
Hearthstone community can be so dumb sometimes. After they changed the whole new system last expansion is fine, maybe even good. You can earn gold every week with the quests, even if you don't have the battle pass. I don't play every day, and i skipped some quests, but I'm lvl 160 on the pass with 9k gold in the bank. I'm not a f2p player but i wish to remember some people that f2p used to make gold in arena, slowly building 1 deck to rank. I want to make clear that this game is a CARD GAME, and if you ever played one you should know that you BUY CARDS FOR MONEY (magic, yu-gi-oh, and company). So don't cry like babies every time they try to change something 10 y old for the first time and they mess up a bit. The season pass is good, 20$ for a bunch of skins, aesthetics, cards, packs and even legendary (1 on 25 packs average). Do quick math of that and convince me it's better the old way for a bunch of packs, but maybe most of you came in recent days so i cannot even complain.
I think you didn't get the point. Of course it would be great to receive just 100g strait, but they aren't doing it. They are giving you only specific packs, that you might not even want. Then we have every week brawl that awards a classic pack. For me classic packs are useless since I collected all classic cards all ready.
Yeah the 100g = any pack, but at the same time they aren't giving 100g but giving out specific packs.
And a token for cards would be great since it will be much easier to build a deck that you want.
I feel that you either didn't understand my message or didn't read it.
Point to me please where I was complaining about the new reward system? I just felt disappointed that the only "event" was some packs.
And about fixing the reward track. It's not that hard. Just change the item or the amount of it. Or you can even change some numbers to lower the needed exp for levels. You don't have to rewrite everything from ground up, just change the variables, a few hours work honestly.
you talked about giving more exp in the pass by events, or lower the exp needed, and that's complaining about the system in general like most of the community does. The fact is that the exp if fine, you have 6 months to finish and go beyond for gold and that's more than enough if you play some games every day. Like in all the games with season pass, you need to play, that's all. For the packs i can understand your motivations, but for me that reward is a "win more" i: they give you few anyway, you still get plenty of gold to buy what you need or bank it.

There were. I distinctly recall multiple special quests that gave like 3 packs a piece during this rewards track cycle.

You could be like me and pick 1 class to play and then never pay another dime on packs again :P
