I never understand people’s fascination with cosmetics... it’s purely psychological “superiority” and nothing more.
“Hey look at me - I have a diamond card and you don’t” kind of thing. It’s the same with the coins and so on. The game experience is exactly the same even if you use the basic light blue card back.
And of course blizzard like many other game companies know that people want to feel superior than others and make the most out of it!
Why you buy in real life BMW instead of Lada or Iphone instead of nokia?
I have no interest in these fancy 3D cosmetics, all they do is make the game run slower.
This is adorable.
I doubt they will phase the Hearthstone client being ran on a toaster, let alone a PC. Any PC. Or literally any phone that Isn't a brick with an antennae.
I'm into the idea! Cosmetics are important for players who like to personalize their collection/deck and feel distinct. The fact that these are purely cosmetic makes the whole gig totally harmless. I will say though, as a fan of Golden cards, these are a little gaudy, even for me ahaha. I don't see myself using them in any of my decks, unless it was my only copy of that card somehow.
That being said, of course I'd be into acquiring Diamond versions of some cards that I love, like Swamp King Dred or Gonk, the Raptor since they're both terrible and memey. The animations for the cards aren't too great, though I'm sure with time they'll get better and better, as things usually do.

Yes, and? Cosmetics are LITERALLY made so people can feel better while playing the game without making them actually better, it keeps things both fair AND fresh, I don't see the problem with it nor the reason behind your criticism.
The epitome of passive aggressive posting. "I don't get it" = I get it 100% but want to post in the most negative light possible.
The game exists because of paying players, and we like having shiny things. A lot of games are terrified to paywall anything, no matter how purely cosmetic, because they know the entitlement brigade will come calling. Other than hero skins, Hearthstone has been highly resistant to paywalling much. It's nice to get something.

Helpful Clarification on Forbidden Topics for Hearthstone Forums:
Enjoying Americans winning in the Olympics is forbidden because it is political. A 14 plus page discussion of state-sponsored lawsuits against a multi-national corporation based on harassment, discrimination, and wrongful death allegations is apparently not political enough to raise an issue.
Hearthstone is seriously too late on the trend. It was the best approach possible to balance card prices as well. With it, the game will be more visually pleasant too.

You can say that on pretty much everything, that it is psychological. What winning the games gives to you other than that? It is all about fun, man. If people enjoy what they do, it is all that matters. At least when you play a video game.
It's a great idea. In my opinion, the best monetization model for an online CCG is for it to be relatively easy to get a decent playset of cards, but for there to be many optional cosmetic items that don't have an impact on gameplay, which can be fully monetized. Basically, make playing the game cheap, but put in a ton of micro-transactions for people who want optional visual effects (e.g. game boards, animated cards, gold cards, avatars, pets, etc.).

So I suppose you wear white shirt, blue jeans, same white sneakers everyday.
Do people really think that diamond cards means that Blizzard will move away from selling insanely over-priced cards, to a model based on selling cosmetics? If greedy Blizzard generates more revenue from diamond cards, they will just bank it, they won't return it to players.
If you want a CG with a fair business model, based on selling cosmetics, it already exists. It's called Legends of Runeterra.
Hearthstone has consistently gotten cheaper since launch. I got nearly all Madness at the Darkmoon Faire cards for free just by completing quests every 3 days and I still have enough to buy 20+ Barrens packs at launch. It is a great time to play Hearthstone, I'm sorry your pathetic life doesn't allow you to see that.

Flawed comparisons (though the car one is the better of the two). Ladas, for example, are notable for issues with the electrics (but being highly reliable other than that); BMWs appear to have no indicators, though I hear that's just the drivers :P Will also handle differently etc..
As for iphone/nokia, they're very different. Presuming we're not talking an old non-smart phone, you've got a completely different architecture and different availabilities between iphone/android, as well as physical features (headphone jack vs non-standard connector for example).
Some people don't care for cosmetics; not to say that that means they have no value (I know a MTG card alterer who gets people wanting to buy altered cards for the unaltered price because they don't care about the art...), but merely that different people have different priorities. If it's purely decoration, with no difference in mechanics, it's all good.
The design of the diamond cards just looks shit imo, the golden cards do too, they’re very monotonous in comparison to the base design. The cards they are attached too seems an odd choice too.
Other than that any monetisation the design team can get outside of packs will hopefully allow them to reduce costs elsewhere.

A big part of Hearthstone’s appeal is it’s unique look and sound. I know you’re just trying to look hard on the internet (and it’s really cute) but I can guarantee one of the reasons you play the game is because of that look and sound.

In principle I agree but it remains to be seen if in practice relying more on income from cosmetic things will lead to greater availability ordinary cards to players so we can actually enjoy the game. If you ask me ideally they should fully or almost fully rely on cosmetic income but I am not holding my breath for more rewards let alone that.
Also my PC is shit and I hope diamond card animations can be disabled in case they prove a resource hog.

Blizzard/Activision the 1% of card games

I just wish there was a different way of getting the new Rexxar skin. Everything else I couldn't care less about in the new pass.

>They are presently making more cosmetics that one can purchase
>They are giving everyone access to the core set that one can build decent decks with
The scenario lustin described is literally already happening
That scares me. Give me golden upgrades, I don't give a rat's ass about diamonds.
Take a walk on the wild side...
