I'm kinda surprised Nerubian Egg made the cut. That card gives a little too much reward for swarmy decks for too little downside. Sure, cards like Serpent Egg and Devilsaur Egg are less iconic, but they're better-balanced.
Those are not wasted space. Random generation exists. Arena exists.
I'm not an arena expert but I don't see why this would be a failed format without vanilla cards. And it's no RNG, you don't need vanilla cards to artificially decrease the powerlevel of any RNG pool. In fact those tend to be decent, average options most of the time, they don't affect RNG cards much. Maybe that's your point, that RNG cards need more average results, but vanilla cards aren't necessarily required for that either.
Most importantly new players still exist and some vanilla should exist.
So new players can't read card text ? They're gonna have some problems either way you can't build a deck with only crocolisks and yetis.
I don't mind them that much to be honest, and it's perfectly valid to think they should exist, they give a sense of progression I guess, they're just a bit boring and useless in the end I like more refined cards, I expected only refined cards for the core set, Blizzard told us there would be no weak card in this set. Look at Circus Amalgam. It's so much more interesting than Chillwind Yeti, it's almost the same card, it's not harder to read for new players, yet so different and more useful and rewarding on so many levels.
And for the 2/3 crocolisk there are so many 2 mana 2/3 cards with text nowadays that I just don't see the point at all, make it a 2/4 it won't break the game, powercreep has been a thing forever now. At least Yeti before powercreep had some form of uniqueness with its 4/5 stats and other 4 mana cards used to pay a stat tax for the text.
I wouldn’t mind having the likes of Yeti in there if there were more cards, but given the sparseness of the set it’s very disappointing.
I find the deck creation side to be much more enjoyable so going from 6 expansions and a large base of classic and basic cards to 3 expansions and a trimmed core set feels like a step backwards.
I love how the first complaint dropped the interesting news that Counterspell has been in every mage deck ever, and people just go along with that . . . complaints are fun I guess.

its not surprising that the priest revamps all stayed but Natalie Seline is still such a dump of a card to include in your deck. Otherwise, everything else looks fine, fits a direction or niche. The core set's biggest impact will really only be this first expansion so it's just nice to see a lot of these kinda goods get their time in the sun.
Just hope the last block doesn't outshine them completely.
I suppose I don't mind seeing spidertank in particular, since I have quite fond memories of it. When it came out, it was an absolute beast. (which is quite a feat for a mech XD) I loved slapping a Velen's Chosen on it or a gilblin stalker, or using it to trigger tinkertown technician and goblin blastmage. Hmm, since they are doing a burning crusade classic in wow, perhaps we can get a GvG classic hearthstone! Might be a slippery slope, but hey, slopes can be fun!
I’m probably in the minority here, but I was hoping for at least one of the build around highlander cards to make the cut. I’m not surprised they chose not to go that route, but a few classes do look slightly gutted. Let’s just hope the new expansion brings some interesting designs as far as deck building goes.

It's been discussed already, i was simply exaggerating. It's been in most mage decks. And its not even the main point of my complaint. People just go along with that because the very point of this thread is to complain about some of the cards in the core set and all of them had interesting things to say.

I'm really annoyed that the 1-drop assigned to Hunter was Webspinner of all things. It is perhaps the weakest 1 drop in the game for the class, and I'm bummed they didn't devise some new one for Hunter instead. I can't complain too much, because Sunscale Raptor rocks my socks, and the two of them will be out for the same amount of time. Webspinner just doesn't do anything when you play it, and has the worst possible stats for the cost (barring 0/1 I guess), but Jeweled Macaw really fills this role better. Most of Hunters cards are pretty sour to me, but maybe the weak Core Set will open the door for Hunter to finally get powerful and interesting cards in upcoming sets!
I like parts of it. Some cards are pretty cool, some are strange additions (Baron Rivendare???), some cards are actually a bit scary. But I like many of the buffs and changes, I like most of Paladin's set, and I like Aegwynn, the Guardian.
I'm a bit disappointed though that Warrior, or Control Warrior specifically, is not changing at all, and keeps pretty much everything but Shield Block, which gets replaced by Shieldmaiden. I really grew tired of the same playstyle with the same cards year after year, and it's gonna be around for yet another one.
Also disappointed that Natalie Seline will continue to be the Priest legendary, as the only one I actually wanted to see replaced. I didn't like it from the day it was revealed, as it has 0 synergy with any of the class mechanics and cards. King Krush at least supports Hunter's aggressive style, but Natalie just kills a minion, and that's it. Might as well be a neutral. No plan, no strategy, just another destroy-effect for which Priest has enough other options.
I'm not happy to see Big Game Hunter staying and buffed. At 4 mana, I think it's a good enough tech that we will see 7+ attack minions mostly disappearing again. Not that I could name prominent 7+ attack minions now, but it is a pretty strong tech choice again. And there's still a lot of really bad cards in the set, particularly the vanillas that get outclasses in the very same set, but I expected as much, so I can't say I'm too unhappy about that. Disappointing, but expected.
There's more cards I'm missing, really, which bothers me. Burst is significantly reduced, which is fine generally, but with Warrior and especially Warlock looking SO heavily geared up for control, it feels slightly unbalanced. Hunter's set looks pretty lame in particular, especially compared with Demon Hunter. Considering both classes are supposed to be aggressive, Demon Hunter way outclasses Hunter in that regard. Beasts are barely even being a thing anymore. And while Shaman got some small buffs, I don't have much hope for it. Also, I find it so weird that there's some base synergy for every minion type, even Mechs, but none for Elementals.
But I guess what bugs me the most, is that I have no idea how Druid is supposed to win games. They have 0 burst, 0 board clearing, 0 card generation (still-nerfed Nourish aside) and only very weak single target removal. I really like Nordrassil Druid (one of my favorite new cards in the set even), but every other class has some sort of win condition or a baseline strategy to follow, while Druid really doesn't have anything remarkable going for them. Summon tokens, see them destroyed every turn, concede. 8 mana Cenarius is nice and all, but actually winning games...?
Also, Druid is the only class in the entire set with 0 cards interacting/synergizing with its hero power, and that's after I hoped it would get a new hero power altogether, already being arguably the worst in the game with no contribution to any proper playstyle. I mean, Warlock and Hunter also don't get a specific synergy card, but they at least have more of a gameplan attached to theirs.
So, I'm overall looking forward to it, but some classes definitely got more than others, which just feels wrong. Problem of Classic was that some classes kept needing strong support because of their weak baseline. The Core set could have fixed that problem, but didn't really in my opinion. Sure, it's only for the next year, and it might look different with expansions, but as far as the baseline is concerned, Classes are not all on the same level.

Illidari Inquisitor is going to be a BIG problem..........
I am happy about Dire Frenzy being back. I always like losing with slow Hunter decks......
King Mukla and Ice Rager are my additions to the list

Now it discovers minimage, lol.
Shaman still has 0/3 draw 1 for 3 mana, what we are talking about.
I don't get gurubashi berserker

It's not broken, it's just poorly designed (EXTREMELY min-maxy) and I think there are more interesting secrets that could have taken its place.

please don't bully my son
I’m sad they basically took away all of Paladin’s draw power, which was limited to start. Although I love the new Paladin secret.
I’m also sad they took away Blizzard.
Really having mixed feelings about the Core set.

you call counterspell not fun and then say fiery war axe needs to be unnerfed?
If it's turn 8 and you have only one minion on board, you already lost the game.
