How the hell is it "going to fail"? Yes it's going to have way less people playing and the meta will be permanently the same, but it's still a refreshing break for when you get frustrated at the current state of hearthstone where mana cheating swing turns and "created by" run the show, resulting in crushingly depressing losses that are out of your control. The only stupid "well I guess I lose" cards I can think of are Innervate and bane of doom (which nobody played).
The next time you lose to a pyroblast created by cabalist's tome created by tome of intellect created by wand thief, just remember how none of that bullshit happened in the beginning of the game.
So yeah if your mage opponent discovers effectively 7 cards while spending 7 mana and using 3 cards, odds are they might just get a burn spell of some kind that wins them the game. That was never gonna be a solid winning game unless your opponent just totally whiffed.
Yeah, because facing current day priest, current day whirlkick rogue and various other decks is so much more fun than facing leeroy at 4 (anyone playing wild would rather leeroy was at 4, incidentally) or a 5 mana unleash-buzzard combo? You know the difference? You can't play around 70% of what a priest does and as soon as rogue gets a hold of lackeys or whirlkick, it's nonsense all the way for that too. You can play around leeroy, you can play around buzzard-unleash combo.
Heck, I don't even know if I'll play a game of classic but I hope, just like all modes before it, that it'll be a great success, because me liking it is irrelevant (although I'd certainly prefer to), hearthstone being healthy is key. If it'll work, excellent, if not, pity and they'll have to go back and try something different. But I really fail to see how the shit we see today is somehow so much better than 2014 hearthstone. If you don't like it, hate to break it to you, but nobody cares, leave the mode to those who will enjoy it and keep playing bgs or standard ladder, laddie.
I agree that after a month the game mode's going to be pretty empty, and that a lot of players (myself included) look back on Vanilla with excessively rose-tinted glasses (I think it's the best the game's ever been, but there was still a lot of BS) but I don't think that means it's going to "fail". Blizzard clearly knows that this is going to be a niche side mode mostly there for old-timers to get their occasional nostalgia fix. It's not like there's a way for this mode to "succeed": It's free and it uses cards that most players will either already have or would be collecting anyway, Blizzard isn't going to be making money off of this. It's just a nice little thing that a lot of players have been wanting to see. No one's under the illusion that Classic is going to be many people's main mode, and I certainly don't think anyone thinks it's going to compete with Standard or Wild.
As the title reads, i'm preditcing that once the nostalgia factor fades out in one week or so, everyone will remember how super anti-fun was facing 2014 face hunter with 4 Mana Leeroy Jenkins, 2 mana Unleash the Hounds, 2 mana Starving Buzzard plus 0 mana Hunter's Mark and leave it.
We don’t know what we are actually getting as the cards. So saying it will fail you so far off.
No worries, then, face hunter won't give you any nightmares. Undertaker was the most cancerous card in the deck you remember, the pre-nax version was much weaker.
I don't even remember face hunter being a thing back then :) Wasn't it just mid-range hunter that was really powerful with 2 mana buzzard?
Btw: I think the naxx deathrattle hunter was the first deck that was called cancer even XD I don't remember ever winning a game with so little brain involved :p
They were both very powerful with 2-mana UTH, but Classic mode will have 3-mana UTH;-)

I think you missed the point. A lot of people can’t stand sitting there while a Mage “discovers” 7 cards in one turn, which could be junk or could be the perfect card for taking you out. What’s the point of making something like Soul Mirror legendary if a Priest player can “discover” 3 copies of it? The discover mechanic adds a lot of randomness to the game, which many dislike. You clearly like it, so you probably wouldn’t like the “boring” classic mode where you don’t get to “rope” your opponent discovering 7 spells a turn.
If it's any consolation, Team 5 acknowledged the over abundance of "created by" cards in a recent AMA. Dean Ayala basically promised a significant decrease in that style of design going forward.

Exactly this. and it's rife among multiple classes. It's not fun losing to more cards that didn't even start in the opponent's deck, it's a slot machine fiesta. At least with degenerate leeroy combos for example, you know it exists in their deck and you know you have to play around certain cards the best you can. Here, you can anticipate what your opponent is capable of doing and plan accordingly. Fast forward to today, you're plaing against lackeys which honest to god probably have the potential to randomly generate any spell or minion in the game via discovery chains. Or playing against 3 murozonds from galakrond. Or renew into palm reading into renew into palm reading into shadow word death, you get the point. You have no idea how many damn shadow word deaths you're supposed to bait out or play around, you just flip coins every turn. There wasn't any thought to this, it was just a dumb luck generation chain.

The most recent sets had lots of ‘discover’ cards in them. So even if they stop making them today, there will be plenty of them for the next year in Standard…

Rustwix is a big offender of the casino HS that we all hate. It can generate a kanrethad which resummons rustwix, throwing more primes into your deck and potentially even more kanrethads - it's a card that can go infinite by itself if you just crossed your created by fingers!

I'm saying if you lost to a discovered card you probably were not in a great position to win the game anyway. So this whole characterization of modern hearthstone being a roulette is silly.
I get that people liked when say, you knew your priest opponent couldn't destroy a 4 attack minion. And I get the appeal of it, especially in a game this simple. But that's not really in the spirit of a card game anyway.
Which is not to say I think the existence of classic is a bad thing.
The random effects create gameplay variance and force adaptability.
Unlike Duels and Battlegrounds, Classic format is very little upkeep. They are not designing cards or balancing the game, it's like releasing an adventure. There is low risk here, there has been some player demand for it. Classic format is just an extra bonus that isn't going to take away from anything else Blizzard is doing.
Well, Hearthstone did confirm that cards will look as they did in 2014. They even mentioned Leeroy would be 4-mana. I agree, it's a pretty dumb response because everybody here loves this game, but I would go look at the original topic forum over the classic changes again.
But they did not say Leroy is gonna join new classic format. Reverting the mana cost change indicates he is not gonna be in.
All these people thinking that they will have the best deck ever without realising that everyone else will do the same and we will all be playing against the same boring meta 2 days after expansion, once hs replay updates it’s copy paste database
I crafted Bloodmage Thalnos and Alexstrasza for Standard mode couple of day ago. So Blizzard will give dust refund? NO. I do not want to play on Classic mode. Blizzard forces me to play on Classic mode. I don't have any avaiable dust. If Classic format dies, I can't play the game.

Why would he not be in? He was there in 2014! They said that the format would be the same version as of June 2014 where Leeroy as a 4 cost card was even specifically mentioned.... So yes we'll see Leeroy again in classic ;)

Can't fail more than Duels did.

Dunno how long ago this was considering the latest mini set has clown fiesta "created by" cards. Envoy Rustwix, Keywarden Ivory, Guidance, Saddlemaster, Illidari Studies, Resizing Pouch. Granted most of these aren't seeing play, but the design aspects are still there.

It will be like classic wow, a fun idea but in the end its "beat content"
It's time for turn 1 Chillwind Yeti and Priest being non-existing.
I will absolutely rock my old Handlock deck again.
