These days I can only play DH, and only once a week. I am F2P and do not have many cards with me. Only DH may get me some wins to rank. After this rotation may be I cannot rank anymore :P
A couple weeks ago, the folks who make the Firestone app tweeted a graph of play-mode play-rates, and posted it on the subreddit - Standard is about twice as popular as BG, and everything else (Arena, Wild, TBs, Duels, PvE content) is about one-third as popular as BG, though Duels is played slightly more than the others.
The take-away is that millions of people play each play-mode every day, and a couple of those modes are more popular than others. If "failure" means "not as popular as Standard or BG" then everything aside from those two modes is a failure. If it means "not played millions of times each day" then none of the modes is a failure - despite all the community shit-posting to the contrary. I suspect Classic Mode will not be as popular as Standard or BG, but it will be as popular as everything else - i.e. millions of games will be played every day, instead of tens of millions.
I don't think anybody is realistically expecting Classic mode to be as big as Standard or Battlegrounds.
It's just a fun nostalgia trip that requires almost no effort for Blizzard to maintain. Once the initial work is done, they don't have to add anything else to it.
It will see a big drop in popularity after a few months, but as long as there is a small and loyal playerbase that enjoy playing it, who cares?
Personally, I am looking forward to using my golden Lord Jaraxxus again. Good 'ol handlock with Twilight Drakes, Shield of Argus, Molten/Mountain Giants ect.
I think it's going to do just fine, which is quite conversely from how today's meta is.
Why would someone even bother to make a post about; A fully free, optional game mode alongside the other game modes.
Perhaps it is the same people who complain about battlegrounds. Somehow, it's exactly those "optional" game modes that make Hearthstone bearable in the long-term.
Expect mainly mid-range decks with strong burst, miracle rogue, handlock and face hunter. Everybody has some deck they don't like from that time, but that does not mean the whole metagame should be dismissed.
Here is one of not too many tournament vods from the time:
Thats a dumb response. We all love this game, thats why we are here.

I dont understand what you mean ? Why do u think Leeroy will be 4 mana or be in modern classic format ? Also if u are going this way - Unleash the hounds used to be: give all ur beast +1 attack and charge. With current cards Face Hunter wouldnt be a problem at all.
this mode (if it has ranked play like wild and standard) will be played as a f2p ladder... you only need 1 deck to get to legend, no investments in other cards...

Well, Hearthstone did confirm that cards will look as they did in 2014. They even mentioned Leeroy would be 4-mana. I agree, it's a pretty dumb response because everybody here loves this game, but I would go look at the original topic forum over the classic changes again.
I started playing around KOFT and lately I'm not enjoying hearthstone as I used to, so I stopped playing while ago. I'm kinda hyped for this, as I always wanted to play from the beginning of HS and I will play just for fun, not as competitive as I used to

JUNE 2014, that is. Please check which nerfs had happened at that exact time before posting, guys. I even made that thread to make it clear what kind of meta it was. No, it was not a hunterstone period.
How the hell is it "going to fail"? Yes it's going to have way less people playing and the meta will be permanently the same, but it's still a refreshing break for when you get frustrated at the current state of hearthstone where mana cheating swing turns and "created by" run the show, resulting in crushingly depressing losses that are out of your control. The only stupid "well I guess I lose" cards I can think of are Innervate and bane of doom (which nobody played).
The next time you lose to a pyroblast created by cabalist's tome created by tome of intellect created by wand thief, just remember how none of that bullshit happened in the beginning of the game.

Not quite. FON/SR, Leeroy/Shadowstep, windfury/rockbiter, Buzzard/UTH and Rockbiter/doomhammer(al'akir) combos decided a LOT of games, also consider the low quality of taunt minions, heals and interruption tools.
That being said: the game was VERY different, and will indeed be refreshing.
They might very well include more old expansions if the game mode gets stale, so people get another shot at their favouite metagame, whatever that might be (combo druid vs patron warrior, c'thun decks etc.)

Now that I recall back, I can't remember if the Alexstrasza/charge with gorehowl combo existed back then either. Still, losing to these combos is still much preferred than discover chains imo.
No worries, then, face hunter won't give you any nightmares. Undertaker was the most cancerous card in the deck you remember, the pre-nax version was much weaker.

I don't even remember face hunter being a thing back then :) Wasn't it just mid-range hunter that was really powerful with 2 mana buzzard?
Btw: I think the naxx deathrattle hunter was the first deck that was called cancer even XD I don't remember ever winning a game with so little brain involved :p

You are overthinking this.

It will not be getting update. It’s just for classic and basic cards. Sry

Has there been any quotes on this from Blizzard or is this coming from "trust me source"?
I made this thread about what we should actually expect in the new format. I don't think the OP got it right, at all...

In case people forgot what june 2014 looked like ;) https://hearthstone.gamepedia.com/Card_changes#Patch_1.0.0.5314_.282014-05-08.29
So no 0 mana charge or 2 mana UTH, but the good old buzzard and Leeroy. I didn't even remember UTH costing 2 and I started in spring 2014 XD
I started in 2015 and I remember Face Hunter being quite strong.
Sure, 2014 Hunter doesn't have Mad Scientist or Haunted Creeper which were very strong cards, but at least Sludge Belcher doesn't exist either.
Ever... Qu-est? I still log in to a Renaissance era UO free shard but I don't recall this ceaseless quest you speak of.
