They'll keep slowly updating it just like they're doing with WoW. Eventually we'll move onto Naxx, Gvg, BRM and so on.
For now this is fine. But yes, people will quickly get bored of it. Also, Unleash will be 3 mana, not 2.
If WoW released today, nobody would play it. It is far too basic for min-maxing capabilities of modern players. What made Classic WoW successful was in big part was the nostalgia of playing with old friends and in small part was the utter failure of BFA. None of that is true for HS, there is no social aspect to HS and modern HS expansion have more creative cards than older ones.
As someone who didn't play classic (I started during GvG), I don't think I will be playing the Classic format for more than 1 month at most.
What do you expect from a dumbed down version of Everquest? Hell they even stole the murlocs.
I miss playing Everquest. That was without doubt the best MMORPG ever created.
I am not sure, the meta of the format was actually very good, and wasn't even solved buford Nax turned everything around. Maybe strategies which were discovered later will shine?
It is 3 mana unleash and pre nax face hunter was more than manageable.
it was insane it forced each1 to not play more then 2 mobs at the same time
Why? Just because of the buzzard refill? What deck beside Zoo even had reliably that many minions out. Classic Facehunter is a strong deck for sure but it is by no means unbeatable.

Isnt buzzard going to be the 5 mana version anyway?
It's not meant to succeed and become a relevant and balanced format, it's just there as an option to do something different once in a while like duels and PVE.
Also Starving buzzard was nerfed to 5 mana in September 2014 as of patch 1.2.0.6485 and Blizzard said all cards will have their stats, text, and other elements as they did in the 1.0.0.5832 patch of June 2014.
So yeah, 2 mana starving buzzard in Classic format confirmed, good times.
I'm looking forward to see if deck building will be any different that the vanilla top tier decks, now that some people have 7-8 years of experience playing the game.
The main reason for this Classic format is they want to introduce "new basic Set". Soon people will get used to new rotation and Classic mode will be basically Hall of Champions Tavern Brawl. Lets move on to future of Hearthstone guys

No. Daoc was way better.
For PvP, yeah.
But for guild and character progression, raid content, lore, world building, quests...pretty much everything else....Everquest.
I am excited to get a chance to play more of the classic cards. their voice lines are legendary. I keep sen'jin in one of my wild decks entirely because he's an old friend, even if he isn't the objective best choice. now with classic we get to spend more time with our old friends like knife juggler, doomsayer, all the classic legendaries, and of course da shielmta himself. plus now you can make decks and never have to worry about updating them as new expansions come out like in wild.
I hope they will add more expansions to classic mode down the road. Imagine a mode where there are a couple different expansions each month. This would create a diverse meta, and reward creative players. Decks and cards that never saw play can suddenly become viable in a slower meta. I would love to experiment with handdruid or elemental mage, but the wild meta just doesn't allow such decks at this time.
I crafted Bloodmage Thalnos and Alexstrasza for Standard mode couple of day ago. So Blizzard will give dust refund? NO. I do not want to play on Classic mode. Blizzard forces me to play on Classic mode. I don't have any avaiable dust. If Classic format dies, I can't play the game.
I'm sorry you sort of wasted your dust here but we are going to be getting all the new core set cards for free, so it's not like you won't be able to play in standard after the rotation.
OP, you've titled a thread about the mode failing but completely neglected to highlight what the goal of it is.
How can you determine anything is a failure if you aren't measuring against its objectives?
If they want it to be a majority of people's go to game mode then I'm sure it will fall short of the anticipated engagement.
Doesn't take a genius to ascertain that this isn't their expectation.
So if you could do some kind of a comparison of what their expectation is versus why you believe it will then 'fail', I think it could be a conversation worth having.
I think the set is more or less just to justify having classic packs and collecting classic/basic cards. I don't know if it even needs to be popular necessarily. But I think people will probably play it.
And honestly, on the subject of game modes, I think Duels will probably become a little more popular now that you don't need to buy the whole classic set.

I think this is something more for the core set rotation.
You are not forced to play classic mode! Yes you don't get full dust refund BUT you get the 235 Core-Set cards for free each and every year! That means you are still able to play standard and if you are new, getting into standard will be much more easier than before!

The most liked deck of the patch:

Even with all that....it will still have more of a sustained player base than Arena

It would be interesting if they invented another way to have different seasons in Classic, maybe rule modifications.
I dont see myself playing a sinhle game. I at least played battlegrounds twice.

its just classic, who cares
I don't see myself playing a single game of battlegrounds, i'm sure i'll play classic at least twice, until I get bored of starving buzzard and leeroy
