From what I’m understanding in regard to the new core set, 88 cards will return from classic once it’s in effect, which will all be given out for free. Does that mean that if I had all 88 of those cards in my collection already and I dusted them, will I get them all back after the rotation? I know that we haven’t been told what those 88 cards are yet, but I’m wondering if disenchanting them right before they rotate back in would get people free dust or screw them over.
Would be a waste. You have no way of knowing which cards will be brought back, meaning that you'd be DEing a bunch of useful shit that you'll now have to recraft.
If they announced them beforehand, then you might have something, but its way too early for that
You don't get the cards in the core set, you just can use them for free. If you only play standard you can safely disenchant all basic and classic cards when the changes go live. But if you want to play other modes like classic, wild or duels you shouldn't disenchant them.
And about dusting the collection: You only get to USE the new Core set. After the year is over and the rotation happens we will get a new Core set and the old one just evaporates. Dusting cards you own cause they are in the Core set means that 1 year later you might suddenly be 50+ cards short.
Dusting cards is almost always the wrong choice, unless you have more of them than you can use.

I probably should have clarified this beforehand, but as a standard-only player, meaning that whatever core cards get phased out won’t be relevant to me as they’ll be replaced by new ones, then disenchanting classic cards would really just be free dust.

With Classic now being a thing, there's every chance that Blizz will experiment with more similar game modes. I;d hate to have dusted my collection if Blizz suddenly announces they'll do a Classic mode for unnerfed Whispers of the Old Gods expansion and every card you had and every deck you had is now usuable again.
Blizzard is also announcing a new game mode somewhere (supposed to come out in the current expansion's time frame) which may or may not use cards from all sets. Duels already uses cards from (potentially) all sets. Blizzard has every reason to make sure that old cards stay somewhat relevant and not just in Wild.
It means cards retain some value and people don;t just do what you do and actually buy card packs instead of dusting a bunch and crafting. It also means people are more likely to invest in some old packs if there's a bunch of cards they need from certain expansions.
You are free to dust away obviously, but limiting yourself to playing Hearthstone JUST in Standard constructed seems like a way to grow bored much more quickly and leave yourself with far fewer options.
And dusting is SUCH a waste of resources. You get back so little compared to what it costs in the first place. To me personally, I;d rather have the option to use the cards again at some point then get the measly little bit of dust back.

HAS this been confirmed? I wouldn't image we're getting full dust refunds or anything, but considering the classic and basic set are twice the size of the new core set, getting SOME dust or pack compensation for collecting this rotating set for however long.
I wouldn't feel it was owed or anything, but it'd be strange to get nothing.

Agree, dust common cards for instance is a very bad move unless u have many copies.

Dude, you will get 235 cards for FREE for whole year. Doesn't it sound like fair compensation?

Confirmed. Greed wins always in this shit company
I mean I wouldn't call it that greedy. Effectively we're getting the whole new classic set for free. But it just seems odd not to offer SOME compensation for effectively removing cards we've used for YEARS in standard.

That's not actually compensation if they're giving it out to every player, though, and it's basically more like a loaner than actually collecting something. Especially since the core set IS smaller than the basic + classic set. (235 vs. 383)
Like I said, I don't think it's greedy or like they owe us, it's just weird.

How many basic cards do you actually play? I will be so happy to DE tons of basic cards on the next day after the rotation. Not for dust (but golden basics WILL give quite a lot of dust) but to clean my collection from pages of stuff I never played and will never play.

That's not really the point. I'll probably DE a lot of cards after the new core set is introduced, so I guess I'll be making dust.
It really depends on what they don't keep I guess. At least at first.

No, it's not worth it, because yesterday Blizzard also confirmed that fresh cream will go moldy in the fridge if you predict the future of a whale.
