In short: I see no "reward" for the faithful players that have been playing this game from start and that collected every possible card in the game (as it was suggested, in the beginning, being this game marketed as a "collectible card game")
So: what would be a way to implement in the game something to do about it? Back in the old days, having many more cards that casual and new players had, meant being able to build better decks for single player adventures or try new decks in game (this was before the wild/standard change and the now standard single player games where you are given every card and your collection is irrelevant).
I am just thinking there must be something that can be added to the game to give some meaning to our collection, the money we spent and the time we poured into it? Any ideas?
They even removed one of those collection goals. You used to get 100g (wow, I know!) for getting every single Classic card. And with the change of the reward system, you don't even get that anymore.
The cosmetic coin is a reward for obtaining 135 unique cards from an expansion, which is actually kinda nice. It looks underwhelming compared to the shiny "buy the tavern pass, damnit!"-version, but it is sort of a collection incentive. Ok, actually not really, since "obtained and disenchanted" counts as "owned" which is the only thing that matters, but then again, I like it better that you don't need to keep cards you never want to use.
Duels rewards larger collections, though it already shows how that can be a problem. Few people have a legendary for every class in Scholomance, or 150 uniques from Darkmoon. It locks some of the options behind the collection, and makes the whole mode unattractive. Not to mention the relatively poor balancing, and making the collection seem meaningless again, when the success of your run is largely determined by buckets and treasures. And the hero powers and starting treasures are all tied to Standard sets (and will 100% get updated to new sets eventually), forcing people to get a lot of Standard cards, regardless of what they otherwise might have for the sets in rotation.
I personally think the requirements are just too high, but I'm sure some people also feel left out because they don't have Naxxramas (still not purchasable with Gold) etc. That's the issue with rewarding collections: Since there are many different players with different collection sizes, they should keep everyone in mind. It would feel bad if you need to have played for a long time just to participate in anything.
Tavern Brawl is the opposite. We rarely see brawls anymore, where you are building a deck of 30 different cards for a new ruleset. For instance, there once was a brawl where your hero had taunt (and 10 armor), or the old "Battle of the builds" where you pick a permanent enchantment at the start of the game. But in virtue of keeping Tavern Brawl open and beginner-friendly, we rarely see such experiments anymore.
The easier solution would be to make collecting cards simple and fun, and not the slow-ass grindfest that forces you to disenchant half your collection for the good legendaries, instead of "dumbing down" everything, so that you never feel forced to have anything.
Another simple way to help things would be to improve the overall card quality. I know that sounds odd with powercreep already being clearly visibile, but a large percentage of new cards (and an ever increasing percentage of old cards) is plain useless and doesn't serve a purpose. They are not even tech options or useful for underplayed or just slightly weaker decks, they are way outclassed, and thus have no use whatsoever. You could remove Fantastic Firebird or Divine Rager, and nobody would notice.
Instead of having your quota of vendor trash, they could add more synergy picks to each set, like some Elemental or Beast synergy, or something that supports Rogue's shuffle theme more, or whatever. This way, you just have more supported themes, and less cards feel "worthless". When every card feels worth collecting, you want to get more.
So, I guess Cosmetics are the easiest way to promote collecting, just so nobody gets pushed out of the game for not having the means to collect many cards. But ideally, collecting cards becomes easier and more fun, both through better droprates or lower crafting costs, and by trying to make all the cards feel worth having in some way. If you are a longtime player and you have a lot of cards, you should feel like you can do so much more with them, and not just have 300 pages of cards you'd never even consider using.
When more players are in a position to get a nice collection going without too much effort, you can also have new (and existing) modes rely more on the collection. When everyone has the means to get some old cards without huge investments, or craft one or two missing legendaries for Duels without it feeling like a total waste, it opens the way to have more interctions with your collection, and makes collecting feel worthwhile in return.

Yeah my dude, the "meaning" of a full collection is being able to play any deck you want, no matter if it's tier 1 or the hottest meme you can think of. If you're in for the gameplay then you can play literally anything you want and if you're in for the collection portion then congrats, if you own every card then you're already set until next expansion and there are some achievements for collecting cards.
They certainly could have tossed in some classic collection coin or golden card that you can't disenchant. The 100 g was almost a mockery, especially since it was made at a time where all you could use gold for afterwards, would be a 150g arena run XD

I wish I had. I stopped collecting all the cards at Rastakhan. The changes they made to the game made it impossible to collect every card unless you spend a lot of money. I used to pay the advanced offers like 50Eur for 70 packs, but after the change, the droprate was so abysmal and the number of new card they release each year has changed too much for my pockets.
My advice is stay on low tiers or casual and play meme decks or just good decks with a couple of meme cards.
If you're not willing to consider using those 300 pages of less powerful cards, then I don't know why you would collect them all in the first place. It's not like the game can force you to put a Light's Sorrow in your deck, it's up to you to try and do something with it.
I'm all for actual rewards for old time players and high money spenders, that would seem like a good business decision to me but then again I know nothing about business and it seems very common to focus more on newcomers and just ignore your most faithful clients because they'll throw money at you and enjoy the game anyway.
And I can only imagine those rewards being cosmetics, I can already see the horde of new players crying in rage and agony as Blizzard gives pack rewards to say thank you to players that have complete expansions, played since beta, all the monthly card backs or whatever.
I also stopped collecting 100% of cards around Rastakhan, I could keep up with the increased average card rarity and cost of new expansions, but I just don't play the game enough anymore, I'm barely able to justify the expansion preorder, and spend most of my gaming time on other games that require money only to buy them.

What we need, is a new mode that allows people who have big collections to compete against others with similar collections. It should allow us to use every card available in a deck with no rotation restrictions. It would be a crazy and awesome mode, where anything could happen and the power levels would be off the charts. It would be pretty Wild...
