Hello green beans, basically i just wanted to ask very briefly whether the highlander mechanics will die out with the next expansion or whether new highlander cards will come.
I think the opposite. Since there hasn't been any highlander cards the last year, I highly doubt they will add more now. I think they would have done that this year as well if they planned on keeping highlander. I also saw a developer (don't remember who) on Twitter who said that deck building would be much more fun and different the next expansion when highlander cards are gone.

I would agree with this. As much as it's nice to have these big, powerful payoff cards for adhering to deckbuilding restrictions... a lot of decks just abuse this by throwing them in and then drawing out their whole deck and using them anyway.
But I guess without a solid post saying "no more highlander" from the devs, it could always still be a possibility that future sets will contain some more highlander cards.
I think standard is a lot more fun to play when highlander decks are viable. However, I don't expect there to be any highlander cards in this next set. I would guess that once rotation hits, Blizzard will want people to explore new options for awhile & then perhaps bring back highlander cards in a later expansion, like they did with Uldum.
As someone who has played HL Mage for almost two years, seeing Reno the Relicoligist rotate is going to be rather painful for me.
They need to add a new large deck (60 cards or preferably more) Highlander format. Every game will feel different and fun, not so serious. I would prefer to ban all highlander mechanic cards from the format as well.
Please stop printing mroe highlander cards, if they make 2 neutrals +1 class highlander class each year, we ll finish with decks of 10 highlander cards in wild. Already mage have access to 6 highlander cards even thought they only use 4-5.
I don't think there will be more Highlander cards in Standard for at least another year or two. And mostly playing Wild, I can only hope so, because Highlander decks have more than enough payoff cards already and they automatically get stronger every other expansion anyway, just because new tools replace old ones. Someday, we'll probably get more, but hopefully not too soon.
Besides, I would prefer if they try to come up with entirely new mechanics and buildarounds. Maybe an effect based on having no spells in your deck, or cards that interact with changed hero powers, or whatever. There's so much more that can be explored, and even taking into consideration that some people really like the Highlander-idea, it's a thing that has been done more than once by now and shouldn't be repeated every year. That's what Wild is for. And in case of HIghlander decks, they are actually playable, unlike many, many other old archetypes.
I'm a big fan of Highlander decks, but I think it's healthy for the game to take breaks from them. Thanks to Zephrys and later Dragonqueen Alexstrasza Highlander has been a part of every meta since Uldum, and people are rightfully getting tired of playing against them. While being a fantastic deckbuilding challenge I have tonnes of fun with, Highlander is a bit boring to play against, since everything being a one-off means playing around specific cards becomes less reasonable and you just wind up hoping they don't have anything. I hope they take a Standard rotation or so off of printing Highlander cards, but I really don't have any reason to think they will. Then again, I don't have any reason to think they won't, either.
I would imagine they will stick to what has worked. So far, the deck restriction mechanics have been highlander, only even or odd costs, and avoiding 2,3, and 4 cost spells (the prince cards from KotFT).
Baku and Genn were so powerful, they basically defined standard for every second of the time they were in rotation. Keleseth took a little time to find his place, but afterwards was fairly noxious as the win rate swings between having him in the opening hand and not were higher than any other card ever printed. the 3-cost prince was only used in one deck (though a very powerful and popular one) and the 4-cost prince was a complete non-entity.
There might still be room for "no cards of casting cost X" mechanics, but Highlander seems to be a thing that spawns some new decks without absolutely forcing a huge majority of the meta to play it (like Genn and Baku did).
It is a valid concern for wild, however, when we continue to build up more and more Highlander cards such that one day, there will be a whole Wild deck built from them. I know Blizzard doesn't typically make card creation decisions based on the wild format, but that would be a shame.

Enjoying Americans winning in the Olympics is forbidden because it is political. A 14 plus page discussion of state-sponsored lawsuits against a multi-national corporation based on harassment, discrimination, and wrongful death allegations is apparently not political enough to raise an issue.
I disagree with more highlander card being put in standard currently, and there's one reason for that. In the last few years, people have noticed that legendaries are becoming less niche and more generally good overall. As we've seen in mage highlander, the deck is just stuffed with legendaries. The power level of legendaries needs to be toned down or they need to tone down the highlander cards. The "Deal with this now or lose" or "discover an answer" stuff mixed in with normal legendaries is just too much.
I'd still play highlander even without highlander mecanics.
Why play 15 cards when you can play 30 ?
This was me even before they introduced reno in the first place. I ran 26 different cards in my deck because I wanted to include so many.
What's great about this game is that the unexpected can win you games, people always told me that losing consistency was vastly detrimental to any deck, I remember when Reno was revealed some people even thought this was a dead card that would never see play due to the inconsistency of highlander decks, but the truth is, the loss of consistency is partly compensated by the added element of surprise and "chaos" from your deck.
Many times highlander decks win game without even playing any "reno" type card.
Of course it's not fit to all decks, consistency is necessary to aggro decks, but I've made it a rule to player highlander decks from all classes at least once a year.
I agree with the others that they should stop printing highlander cards for a while and see what happens. But I would also like a new design for highlander cards, instead of making inherently overpowered legendary cards to incentivize players to concede the consistency of x2 cards, just make fair commons and rares with a decent powerlevel that can only be played in highlander, like the even/odd cards, they're just a little stronger than normal instead of being auto include powerhouses, that should be enough to incentivize players like you and me to play highlander decks. Also these would be cards that you only need to collect once instead of twice and the community certainly wouldn't dislike that.
a lot of decks just abuse this by throwing them in and then drawing out their whole deck and using them anyway.
They could easily fix that by instead of programing the card with "If your deck has no duplicates" they programmed it with "If your deck started with no duplicates".
It would also stop them from being too vulnerable to stuff like Albatross and Bomb Warrior.

Blizzard approves of highlander so new cards are likely to be made available when the old bunch rotates out.
That's as much as can be said without going into guesswork.
Maybe in 2022 Blizz will release new highlander cards, like they released Zephrys the Great after Reno Jackson rotates.

yeah, lisen to sadonj, stop printing hl cards! What we need is more cheap aggro stuff because its not enough yet
