In 7 years of playing this game I don't think I've encountered more than 20 actual ropers.
People who play more slowly, or who AFK for a couple turns, yeah sure, that happens. But actual ropers that wait till the last second every turn ? Nope. Once a year I find a player like that, I rope him as much as he ropes me, and in 3 turns he gives up and plays normally.
There must be an algorithm that puts cancer players together. And yes, you absolutely sound like a cancer player, judging by the few posts you made in this thread, despite not being a roper.
And I don't play casual because people concede way too easily in this format, which is way more annoying than a roper. So that doesn't explain why I don't see ropers. Maybe I just don't play enough games in a given day to notice how prevalent ropers are.
Just remind yourself that they are probably degenerates who have accomplished nothing in life and all they are doing is openly broadcasting how much more successful you are then them.
So much selfprojection dude.
I see, so I guess you feel like roping intentionally to waste people's time is fine. Gotcha...
Hearthstone is not made for people who are driven bij ethics and the 'right thing to do'. As Blizzard aka T5 for the past 7 years did nothing against roping and never introduced an auto squelch for that matter, it is an intricate part of vulgarity attracting morality of developers themselves.
Hearthstone is a repulsiveness producing game equally made by people who are reprehensible themselves simply because it seems to sell more packs.

I understand you like to question the ethics of the developers, but if I'm understanding you correctly... you think that T5 is purposely not implementing features that would make the game better for the handful of people that want the feature... because they are evil. And they are spreading their evil through the game in doing so?
And this evil behaviour is actually helping them sell more packs? I guess I'm not following the logic behind that.
I think this is a matter of perspective. People roping intentionally could very well be a person continually analyzing the game to try and make better plays as they go. Much like many of the grandmasters, they rope almost every single turn, deciding what they are going to do and make the best play at the last moment they have. Sometimes even missing their last move because of time.
This may not be the case for everyone on ladder, but if people are doing it, it is their right, and we can't decide for them if they are doing it out of malice or their own need, because we can't see the other side of the screen.
Interesting. How do you know someone is a Tickatus player? Do you only start roping when he plays Tickatus? How many turns to rope will there be left? Or do you rope just any warlock? Do you stop when you realize he plays a different deck? And most of all, is it justified roping someone for playing a single card you don't like?

So many questions.
Once Tickatus comes down, it is reasonable to assume they are a Tickatus player.
If my opponent is going to play a griefing card (which is well within his rights!), I'm going to grief back (which is well within mine).

This game is ruled by a very profound understanding of human psychology and the primordial human psyche. Enjoying the game means to annoy your opponent in every possible way. Game design facilitates.

So annoying bots are also a good thing then? Every game is only fun when there is a competetion and not when one annoys the other. Let's say a boxing match, there is no boxing because one of the contenders is playing time and running away all the time, or a football game where one of the team has so called injuries and playing on time. Yes they are allowed to but no it is not fun or nice.
They just hope to win with concedes by irritating.
Sounds like you're letting them succeed, too.
As is repeatedly the case, here - there is literally nothingwrong with roping for any reason whatsoever, whether it's trying to to figure out your next turn, how to deal with what's on the board or simply trying to annoy your opponent into conceding. These are all legitimate and valid reasons to take your whole allotted turn.
You might as well get upset with people for playing cards you don't like or playing an aggro or combo deck etc. The problem here isn't with them...
We found us a normal player who doesn't cry about having to wait for others to play their way, congratulations. With football the referree will pul out a yellow card for wasting time. Wasting time intentionally to earn that tad bit of xp is just bad. Same like a mosquito sound when your trying to sleep, irritating.
Fixed it for you! XDDD Not to mention that your football analogy (if you actually understood what the rule was for), is inherently flawed and actually works against your argument. Referees will penalise for time wasting because there is a shared clock that both teams use. In hearthstone, the only time a player wastes by roping is their own. Their opponent can either suck it up like an adult, leave, or simply win the game faster. It shows nothing but an obvious and immature bout of impatience to get upset about someone taking their time on their go. It's amazing that there are still people out there actually complaining about this as if it's some sort of problem! Lol!
All the football and boxing and other sport analogies are just plain wrong. Those sports are presided over by a human who is given the task of interpreting that sports rules as they see fit, be it time wasting or running from an opponent, and are therefore generally incosistent. Also those sports, especially boxing, have 'unwritten rules' about things like not running or turning your back on an opponent that have existed for decades. All competitive sports / pastimes have their form or roping though and if you don't believe that is true you need to leave your basements and enjoy sometime in the real world.
The 2 minute time limit in HS is the mosts consistent part of the game and people should be able to do with it as they see fit. Would I be adverse to changes to the 2 minutes rule? No. I can I see a chess timer style set up where both players get maybe 12 minutes per game working. Rules are rules though and people need to put on their big boy pants, stop crying about it and suck it up.
Been playing for 7 years, i never rope people, but if i were to start, i would rope mill players.
You won't let me play my control deck because that amuses you? Well, i am gonna take the fun out of it for you too buddy.
The only problem (well, not the ONLY problem) with roping mill players is they are, I imagine, basically trolls and thus would probably cackle with glee once they saw your irritation show by roping.
"Oh look at my opponent, he's so mad! Lulz!!1!"
And so on. Plus intentional roping is bad and two wrongs don't make it right. Be the better human.
Wild player here, playing since beta. I see the different points of views in the thread and I agree with all of them, from which:
'Ropers are not doing anything Illegal'. Yup
'This mechanic has been exploited by XP farmers recently'. Agreed, I didn't see that many ropers since 2014 until last expansion.
'Try to do something else on the side when you see a roper'. Agreed, save your energy, there's no point of emoting or roping back, just get done with it. It's kinda hard if you are playing on your phone though.
Now that I stated the obvious, I think unless Blizzard implements a crowd reporting system (Think Call of Duty / Warzone system), farming bots will be there forever.
Yesterday, I was laddering in wild from Bronze 3 to Diamond 5, out of which 19 games played on PC and recorded in the deck tracker, out of which I encountered 5 ropers (2 of them are definite bots, hero powers and rope, overdrawing, dumb bot anyone can code in minutes).
I decided to collect Bnet Ids of those players along with class, duration and archtype. Not sure what will I do with them yet or how will we benefit from it eventually. If someone wants to share/contribute to this list let me know.
it's okay to rope when the round is extremely difficult. But there are also streamers, even in the high legend area, who think twice about the simplest things and rope all the time. I don't do these people to myself because it's just extremely annoying.

Shortly after the new exp system I did face a bot. Trying to report them is a waste of time:
1. You dont have an ingame report feature. Im not a dev/coder/w/e but I assume its not hard to implement such a system.
2. What you can do is, you can email blizzard, they have a seperate email adress for that (hacks@blabla)
Well the problem with the email is:
I did send them an email. I provided my bnet tag, the name of my opponent, a screenshot of the game, the region I was playing on, the date and time. So, as you now can probably understand: Some dude has to read the email, check for that EXACT game I was playing (because you cant see ur opponents bnet tag) and then check if they bot or not. This is complete bullshit. My email was sent around xmas, so nearly 2 months ago, I never received an answer. I assume nothing happened. Literally nothing. They probably dont even care at all. I assume blizzard has programmers who could easily code it within a day, but as long as the devs are the ones who are in charge, nothing will happen. As they said, they dont hire players, they hire designers. Iksar is a former restaurant consultant. Nuff said.
The only time I've had someone rope every turn was when I accidently roped with the mulligan and first turn. I played every turn fast after that, yet they insisted on playing as fast as possible, then roping the rest of the turn, so they were definitely doing it on purpose as they had no other actions to take. Apparently he was pissed that I was a "roper". I don't know, but for all I know it was the OP.

There is a thing called an uninstall button. Nobody cares that you are quitting Heathstone
