Look at the list of top 10 most popular decks in current meta.
Take a deep breath.
Check their winrate against Tickatus Control Warlock (with and without Galakrond / Quest / Envoy)
You can calm down now, you're safe.
No matter what you do, you won't be able to refine this deck into decent winrate. It simply has too many weaknesses vs too many meta decks and you can't tech against them all. Just play anything that isn't super slow (like Highlander Priest or whatever) and enjoy your free wins.
Because of this ******** Tickatus card. I don't know what Blizzard was thinking.
Now everybody has to play aggro or super fast tempo decks. The usual fun in other words.
Why do they always have to punish control archetypes? Why don't they punish aggro for once?
Is this just a meme now? I've seen so many posts about tickatus ruining the game and I can think of 1 game I've been in where he has been impactful, also armor vendor was printed in the last release, 1 Mana gain 4 armor and put a 1/3 in play, one of the best turn 1 plays if you are control vs aggro, there are cards supporting every archetype in every expansion.

It is not about pragmatism. It's about principle.

We make our world significant through the courage of our questions and the depth of our answers.
Speaking of principles, 80% of meta decks should be annihilated, because they are broken and uninteractive (full of mana cheating and unstoppable aggression). But hey, this is what Hearthstone looks like these days and it probably won't change anytime soon.

Years ago the development team said they did not favor cards that destroyed opponent's cards as a viable mechanic. Of course, we've had to deal with Coldlight Oracle shenanigans though it thankfully fell out of Standard. But as you say, we'll have to live with Tickatus for at least another 18 months until it cycles out of Standard. I suspect the card will get changed by the next expansion because otherwise there's no point in them designing Control-archetype cards. They'd just be deadwood.
My control decks work fine... My guess is, you don't know the difference between control and combo... If your control deck has 1 win condition, you're doing it wrong.
Tick is not the problem, cascading disaster is (and maybe all the other control at locks disposal) because you can never amount a meaningful enough board to pressure them.

Play vs warlock today with my weapon rogue, he recover 6 life with the 3/4 taunt reborn minion, gain 4 armor with 1/3 minion, destroy my weapon twice with x2 Ooze, play the 6/6 taunt for 7 manas (for corrupt Tickatus and defend yourself at the same time) and in turn 8 play Tickatus and still lose the match.
Weapons and early agression are the way, I have more than 90% winrate vs warlock with weapon rogue and win even when the warlock play every possible tech at your disposal, the very few times I lose is when the draw is the worst possible, otherwise is a free win.

why fear a discard 5 turn 7 when you are dead turn 5 by tempo (whether via mana cheat or aggro)
