I've been playing Hearthstone for a few months now and have even bought quite a few packs to expand my collection, but I just don't feel like it's all paying off. I've seen a few deck lists on here but I always had the same problem of never having the cards to build the best decks. I don't really see a point in investing more into this game without understanding how to make use of the cards I have. Any source I can get tips and the 101's of hearthstone to know what makes a card good and just a better overall player?
I can help you with understanding the value of cards at all. it takes some time , and practice, im playing on EU , so if you are about to find some "mentor" or how i would say that u can add me ingame Imbawar#21126 and we can play together while i will explain you how it all works. you can totally play for free without spending real money.
Hi there. Happy to help you here. First of all, I know as a new player, understanding Hearthstone will take quite a while. It needs some time investment to learn about the terms revolving around Hearthstone as a TCG. For starter, you could experiment on card synergies while browsing your collection. For example, having a Sorcerer's Apprentice means it's best to have more spells in your deck to synergize with that card, especially with 1-mana spell cards, since it will cost 0 when she gets played in the board. From that point, you could then start looking at the "good" 1-mana spell cards that you have in Mage class. Ray of Frost and Magic Trick are usually a must-have's in current Mage decks which you could also include in your deck. Then you'd imagine the situation where you could play Sorcerer's Apprentice and those cheap spells altogether. What can be synergized again from that situation? Mana Cyclone seems a good card to get a combo with it to generate even more spells to your hand and getting more values from this.
That's an example in building Mage decks. Each class has a certain identity and typical playing style that have different synergies in its cards. Knowing the right combination is the key to make a good deck in Hearthstone. Now, in order to reach that level of knowledge, it will definitely take some time. However, you could also check on professional HS players on YouTube or Twitch to see how they construct their decks, how their thought process goes on each match, and why the deck is made that way. Then you apply what you've learned into your gameplay and you might do several tweaks in order to suit your style better.
If you need more advice, you could add me in-game, Zephyrus1291#1731 and I'll be happy to help. Good luck and Have fun!
It takes a bit to learn the mechanics. I really like Dekkster on youtube, he does a good job explaining the game while he plays, I learned a bunch from him. Secondly, you should focus on the cards that you do have. Which legendaries do you have that you can build around? Honestly alot of it is getting one pretty good deck that you know really well and are comfortabe with. I had a lot of success by focusing on one class (maybe crafting a legendary?) and learning it really well.
What kind of decks have you enjoyed playing or watching these past few months? Aggro, control, tempo, midrange?
Start with that and then choose a class that you think best represents your playstyle. After that you can start building your deck, analyzing synergies, mulligans and strategies.
People in this site are ready to answer all of your questions (dont mind the trolls, these guys are everywhere). I'm more than happy to help, I play on EU Aizen#2772.
Get the HSreplay deck tracker, then a six pack of beers, then go to the arena and aim for either druid, demon hunter or warlock. Aim for having a lot of 2 mana minions and solid rush minions. Top it with 2-4 expensive minions (around 8 mana). Arena is 90% midrange, so you'll mostly just learn that one playing style, but you'll farm some good resources to try out aggro and control strategies in ranked.
For ranked I suppose that demon hunter is the most economic class to start with and you can probably make a decent aggro or soul deck pretty cheap (people won't like you thou). The token deck is my favorite and there's a version using mostly initiate cards. I hit diamond 5 with this one https://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/1374726-token-demon-hunter
Sadly control decks tend to be really expensive, so you might have to wait for a while before getting the real feeling of that. Control warrior is a true evergreen, with shield slam and brawl being solid epic cards to craft
Haha HSreplay is fantastic, changed my game and made me more successful. The only thing I would change about this answer is gin, add a nice gin and tonic and you should be set.
I have actually decided that Warlock has some really nice aggro, budget decks. Zoolock just isn't that expensive and is hella fun.

There's just no way, u need to spend hours or invest money, one of them will get u a better deck that will change each month to a new best deck and u will always will stay behind. maybe if u invest 500USD in new upcoming bundles and pre orders u will have enough dust to even buy wild cards. Otherwise is just grind to hell and keep playing decks like baku pally 4ever untill u have enough to craft the "NEW BEST META DECK" of the month! xD Just doesn't worth, for real dude...I play since beta, I wasted hours and hours playing this game. THe last resort is this new update they are trying to bring on HS but if this one fail too like reward system, I'm out for real. Many cards invested doesn't worth shit or don't even see play in many decks, even their own damn archetypes they were designed. I tell u again, don't buy anything in this game, just not worth. Play with cards from packs and learn how to build tempo decks that don't require many legendary. Edit: Better play another game that u can spend less time and money and feel that u're really getting somewhere, this one is just to make the company richier, there's no more fun and the game is old as fuck. Play LOR if u want to feel what is a good match, in hs the matches are kinda stupid and rigged. most of time game is already decided on top cards and the read of the match is going to choose who will going to lose.

this belongs into salty thread mate , telling a newbie this kind of salt is just sad. you can be f2p with control decks too. telling somebody to play aggro because for other cards u need to pay is also really sad , if you disslike the game hit uninstall button and dont poison the air here because nobody cares about people who quit .)
Haha it really took a lot of mental courage for me to play with that asshole class, but I feel that the less overplayed decks are kind of OK. Before DH it was hunter that was broken face BS, but now he seems a bit more respectable ;) I definitely think zoolock is one of the cooler aggro decks and I guess that you can still make something decent without Kanrethad.
To OP: Yup it takes ages to get a meta deck, but I played this game for ages with shitty decks around the old rank 15 and still had fun. Try to mix up the game modes, so that you can get lots of XP without getting bored ;)
BTW: Those "innocent fruit" juices with lime and rum make some killer long drinks!

It always irks me when people whine and say they "WASTE XXXXX HOURS" to justify burn out. No you didn't. You played a game to entertain yourself which you were. If you weren't playing HS you would've killed that same time being entertained with another game or medium.
I have to admit my playing became surprisingly beter by watching the Trump starter series on YouTube. It is pure clean basics, but it gives such a quick grasp I can only recommend it.
For the rest watching Twitch (Dekster/Funky Monkey/Regis and Thijs when you are a bit further down the road) really helped me. I'm in no way qualified to offer mentorship... But those would be my starter tips
