So, shouldn't we be getting some news on this? The halfway point for MDF is a week away. I want to know if I should keep hoarding these MDF reward packs.
I am hoping that they say something either tomorrow or Thursday (announcement days) and the mini expansion launches either next week or the following one. Let's hope!
I would assume the mini-set launches before the end of the month, but probably not much sooner. Unless they move their entire release schedule, the next expansion + rotation etc. would still happen in April, and Galakronds awakening also started second half of January.
And yes, unless you want to buy yet another one or two bundles, or have too much gold and dust anyway, you should save your packs, at least once you have all DMF rares already.
Don't worry, I'm sure the date for the teaser to the reveal stream for the announcement of the tweet about the pizza delivery with the date written on it will magically appear in the steam on your bathroom mirror after a shower... VERY SOON!
I would expect the next expansion will be mid-March now, no? Given the way the new Battle Pass works. You think they'll go 5 months of MDF and then cut something else short down the line? I'm not sure they can get away with that given how the Battle Pass loads most of the gold towards the end of the pass.

I have no idea what you are talking about. What does the Battle Pass have to do with anything? What would have to get cut short down the line and why??
Not even sure which "end" of the pass you mean. The better rewards are levels 40-50, but "most of the gold" is in the 300 extra levels past 50 (holding 15000 gold). Several people (especially with Tavern Pass) are already past 50, and many of the "normal" players are getting close to that by now. I didn't play for two whole weeks, and even I'm at 42. And on the other end, even people playing this game as a full time job with crunch hours are unlikely to reach 350 before it expires.
So, neither are (regular) players likely to miss out on something on the first 50 levels, nor is it likely that someone reaches 350 (without bots) and then complains that they can only wait until the next expansion comes out. Really don't know what you see as problematic here, and how the Battle Pass would require the next expansion to come out exactly x number of weeks or months later.
The only possible problem with a 5 month period between expansions (which we already had between LoE and Whispers) is more complaints than usual about a "stale meta", but that's what the mini-set is supposed to fix (and will probably fail at).
Why wouldn't you just keep holding the packs until the mini expansion launches regardless of the date? Like what's your argument? "Oh if they don't give us info soon I'll just open them"? Just keep saving them and that's it, there shouldn't be too much longer before we get any info but that it's irrelevant to hoarding the packs. If you've already saved them for so long then why not just wait whatever time is necessary at this point? If you open them you'll regret it cause you'll lose so much money and value if you need to buy even more packs to at least get all new commons and rares, it's straight up just dumb to open packs right now instead of waiting and being guaranteed to get every new common and rare they print.
I am really not enjoying this expansion because of the lack of information regarding miniset. I opened too few packs to be able to play more than two decks from the new expansion and I just sit on second half of unopened packs without any details when will the miniset be released, what cards to expect or if it is even worth it. Let's hope it will be and the meta will get refreshed enough.
What does hoarding MDF packs have anything to do with a new set? They are not going to contain any of the new cards. I'ts going to be it's own thing. At least that's what i'm lead to believe.

You know what? Now i'm uncertain?
Just wait
Whatever lead you to believe that, it was wrong.
They said early on (during the Darkmoon Reveal) that the Mini-Set will be intregrated into the Darkmoon Expansion, effectively increasing it in size to 170 cards, so all the new cards will show up in Darkmoon packs.
And due to how packs work, you would receive those new cards instead of the commons and rares you already have all of. And no, it also won't matter when you got those packs, because the content of packs (at least the specific cards) is determined on the moment you open them, not when you obtain them. So you could in fact get new cards from the very same packs you might still be holding.
If you have some unopened Darkmoon packs, you can open them now and get 40 dust, or you can save them for guaranteed 5 new cards. Your choice.

they actually said that the mini-set will be part of DMF and the cards will be added to DMF pool and will be openable from DMF packs, it's a fact, nothing to be uncertain about :)
I sort of assumed (wrongly?) that this would be announced or coincide with the reset on Duels ratings, which are presently reading as happening in “2 weeks”
i have 2600-3000(with quests completed) gold, should i use any of it for mid set expansion?
Depends. Have you been saving packs?
First of all you need to wait, we don't know what the new cards will look like, maybe they're thrash. If only 5 of the 30 cards end up being useful then I don't think it's worth spending gold. I have 20 packs saved and will probabbly end up with at least 25 by the time the mini set releases. So i'll open those packs and then spend enough gold so I have at least every new common and rare (shouldn't be more than 1k and I have 5k saved) and from there just craft the good epics and legendaries that I still miss.

I know nothing of the mini-set, but I asked here before should we save packs and most answear was YES... save packs.
