One of the best things about the Arena game mode is the potential to earn your spent gold back, invest it in another arena run, and earn rewards on the side.
Heroic Duels appeals to me for the same reason. However, what's holding me back is the fact that I'm missing a lot of standard cards (as a F2P player) that might be needed - mainly epics and legendaries. What I'm wondering is whether it would be worth it to invest in crafting the necessary standard cards for 6-7 decks (Duels allows you to select one of 4 classes). There are two sub-questions here:
1. Assuming you have all the cards you need, is there any data that would suggest that Heroic Duels has a higher potential than Arena for the consistency of achieving the desired reward goals (e.g. reaching 7 wins)?
2. If Heroic Duels is more consistent than Arena for earning rewards, then the next question would be how much more consistent (e.g. how many more wins per run)? This would help to determine whether the dust investment would be worth it (more valuable relative to Arena over the course of an expansion, perhaps beyond) and how much more time/gold is needed to complete the runs necessary to begin "making a profit" relative to dust expended.
An early video Kripp did said that Heroic Duels will always be worse than arena in terms of being able to get more than 3 wins due to it being based on MMR and not on your record on that particular run. MMR is designed to basically always give you a 50% WR I believe
Given an enough number of runs the better player will always score higher. With that in mind i consider there is a lower skill ceiling in heroic duels due to the blatant discrepancy between hero powers, artifacts and all the other luck based attributes of the mode. Just look at the innvitational some classes are just 0-3 at a certain level, that never happens in arena, sure there is the 0-3 police meme but you should also consider you have a rank system and matchmaking in duels other than just the number of wins like Arena.

Heroic Duels not worth it, no one will get infinite here because of MMR matchmaking. Just keep playing Arena.
This is an assumption, but its not necessarily true. Lately I was watching TeamAmerica's stream, he is one of the best players in duels with very high mmr, and he came to the conclusion that heroic duels matchmaking has nothing to do with MMR. The queue times are a lot shorter and at his level he shouldnt see that many misplays and that many budget starting decks. It is not confirmed, but it seems like thats the case.
On topic I would say arena is still better for farming, because arena is more balanced. In duels when you dont get warlock, DH or hunter, you have a great disadvantage.
Duels will go south soon, I think it already has. Only the “blizzard boys aka influencers” play duels non stop on twitch - boar, kibler, zalae and sometimes Kripp. Their viewers have dropped like a waterfall
Thanks for the replies. I didn't realize that I neglected to consider the MMR matchmaking aspect of this. Poghy also made a great point about arena being more balanced. It does seem that arena is the better/safer farming option right now.

English is not my native language, so, with a high probability, mistakes were made.

Having a personal rating doesn't necessarily mean that it is a MatchMaking Rating.
