I used to pay 49.99 USD for expacs like 2-3 years ago, and I'm paying the same amount now....and maybe the gold id get from doing quests a month before the expac
- now i have duplicate protection
- get a free pre-expansion legendary
- get a free legendary on logging in after expac releases
- there are 6 quests now, and you get xp from losing as well
WTF are ya'll talking about, you don't need to get every single skin in the game, or get every single card in the game (you didn't do that before either so stfu). You can choose to collect all the cards in the game so you have some fancy hero power in duels if you want, you don't even have to play that, just play the standard game that you did before when the game was "less" expensive. All collectable card games are like this...
Its literally not getting more expensive; its less than what it was 2-3 years ago, only valid argument would be that you maybe get old packs as a reward...also businesses need to generate more revenue so they can release more content, so they're offering new incentives, but you can still play the collectible card game that you enjoyed 2-3 years ago, w/o any increase in price...
this is the type of stuff I talk about... what kind of person argues like this? why defending a greedy cooperation??
with facts.... its always been this "expensive" if you think the game is "expensive"....and for some reason think its getting more "expensive". Have you ran a business? just labeling things as corporate greed doesn't make things go away....
yknow, i thought about it a bit more, id like some more free shit, so I'm w/ you if some is keeping count. Corporate scums, making me spend money on virtual goods, all cards should've been free to begin with.

points have been said here. honestly. I spend some money for this game to at least show support. Based on experience (and I've been a player since Season 1 mind you) it's a lot cheaper right now.
Before the duplicate protection: - I would spend about $100 (getting the pre-purchase and packs) and not have a complete collection and far from completion at that
Before the achievement system: - I would accumulate just a few gold before the expansion releases (2000g at the most because I can't be dedicated as I want to be due to my occupation). That assumes I have a near complete or complete collection.
After both: - Complete collection at just $100 - Already at 1000 gold and still a few levels before reaching 50 **** Anyway, supporting what you call "greedy" company because like what others said, it's a similar to MtG for me. Anyway, $100 is similar to me buying an expansion in WoW plus subscription for 4 months (WoW might be more expensive, don't know... don't play). Bottomline - they're a business.
Now if you cannot even respect our stand or opinion on that matter, it's your problem, not ours. From what I see, you're asking for an explanation but at the same time expecting a specific answer that suits your arguments.

Now you're just being stupid. No company is going to spend millions of dollars to develop and support a game and not make money from it. That's not how the world works dude.
Because there are multiple sides of the discussion, and you are not objectively correct, that might have something to do with it.

It's like the price of going to the cinema with snacks, or buying 12 beer once a month. Either you thinks it's worth it or you don't. You clearly don't, but Blizzard's economist seem to. After reading a dozen or more threads about "HS is too expensive" you might get the impression that the playerbase shares your opinion, but rest assure your voices are being drowned out by the ten of thousands of people that are happily throwing money at this game.
I guess Blizz was being uncharacteristically generous when they introduced duplicate protection. Does anyone have the math on how much this feature saves players?, it's a significant amount I know that.

I feel like I am argueing with a super dumb person here, so here we go.
when the game started we had 1 legendary pr expansion now we have 2, does that make the game more expensive? (think long and hard before you answer please) more and more epics have become vital for a decks in order to compete, does that make the game more or less expensive(think long and hard before answer please)
it is not just the simple fact that there is more cards so the game is more expensive, that is totally fine and something most people understand is not the subject of the conversation (i dont believe you understand this) it is that the new playable cards have in larger quantity become more and more expensive and therefor raising the price of the game
this is all because of shareholders are trying to squeeze the money out of the community and with that killing the game, which i think is bad because I like the game in general and i do not want it to be unplayable
how you fail to see this, can hardly be anything other than incompetence and you should not be speaking of running a business because clearly you are not either
Now and then I see people defending blizzard and their greedy actions and I am just not capable of understanding why...
not long ago games cost around 70 euro, what do they cost now? these "f2p" models cost often way way way more than 70 euro, that is if you are not contempt at either only playing the cheapest of cheap decks pretty much exclusively and otherwise get slapped around by players who have bought the competitive cards... many decks don't even work without legendary / epic cards and a legendary card has a cost around 25 euro and epics 6.25 euro
comparing that to Cyperpunk 2077 with a cost of around 48,97Euro (one time purchase) is it really that difficult to see that the hearthstone community is getting ripped off? 1 hearthstone deck cost 2.8x as much as the newest of the newest triple A games... and again that is just 1 deck and not even the most expensive one
Where are you getting these random ass prices from dude?
I spent 100 this xpac and have 21 legs, 25 epics. I am only missing 9 cards from the set. If I got 21 legs from $100 worth of purchase, obviously 1 leg is not worth $25, it is not even worth $5.
As for your pricing on AAA games, number one, Cyberpunk 2077 costs €59.99 or $59.99. Amazon is having a preorder sale, but if you're going to use Amazon prices, you can also buy Amazon Coins for up to 20% off Hearthstone packs too.
Number 2, that $60 purchase is moving to $70/€70 for many games next gen.
Number 3, those single purchases are being subsidized for you by other people who spend on mtx and cosmetics.
I agree that Blizzard could afford to be more generous, but you need to make accurate arguments. I can build any deck I want and I just get one bundle per xpac. Even back when I was full F2P, which I was for about 4 years, I could make 3-4 decks per xpac with no issues.
What exactly are you expecting from the game as a F2P? To be able to make any deck you want with full legendaries and no substitutions? Because that isn't a realistic want
I cannot believe I even make topics like this, having to defend common reason to super spergs all over
nr.1 prices are different in different countries and I can get cyperpunk 2077 in the stores for an amount that translate to 48.97 euro so that is what I write down in my example
nr2 70 euros is still no wear near blizzard prices
nr3 no
and to your own point how do hearthstone get new players if you need to play and pay for each previous expansion in order to keep up? it is a sign of a game that is about to die
and to what I expect for hearthstone is to be able to play around 3-5 decks when iv bought both preorders + the fkn cthun bundle

i mean if you're talking about collecting all the cards in the game, sure its more expensive lol. I like the two legendaries, i never thought of it as, "fuck i gotta spend more money to collect them all" lol. Most of the competitive decks are agro (agro is always king and usually happens to be cheap).
im not sure what else to say, i think you just want to pick a fight and want people to agree with you, and blow off steam. this is not a discussion, seems more like trash talking. You can try YGOPRO if you want to spend less money on a card game

if you dont have all the cards what is the point of the game??? the entire game is about building a deck that counters the meta and experimenting with different results in order to come up with best option, but that "luxury" these days costs you insane amounts of money for something that you don't own or has a physical form that requires shipping and producing
whatever I don't care for this dumb forum go post about whatever golden card you got in your pack
I’m sure I’m not getting it.... but is it expensive to have ALL THE CARDS.... yes obviously like in any other card game .... is it expensive to have two fairly competitive decks... nope. Dust the stuff from decks you don’t want/play and make a couple good decks..... anyone who plays often (doesn’t miss a quest) has the resources for that. It’s called waiting for the meta to settle down and actually crafting the key pieces.
I get 60 “free” packs every expansion from gold and quests, plus the 1,2, or 3 free legendaries. Thats plenty of dust for a couple good decks.
I can’t say that I feel bad for free players cause you can’t craft all the 12 legendary meme decks and 5 different T1 decks for standard and 5 T1 decks for wild.
I’m Also long time mtg player where meta singles can cost 100$ for one and you need 4 for a competitive deck plus ya know the 56 other cards to go with it...
people are obviously playing ladder expecting to hit legend F2P, and ignoring that cool thing called... wait for it... PLAYING WITH YOUR FRIENDS!!! the one that also don’t want to pay anything and also don’t have T1 mega decks. or you play at lower ranks, where you still get to PLAY (ya know for fun.... like the game is intended) the game with people that arent smashing perfect decks up the ladder.
I think many people are saying that being the best is the only way to enjoy the game, but being the best at a lot of things in life takes time AND money. If you aren’t having fun not being #1 world , then this isn’t the kind of game you actually want to play. Which is totally ok.
The people who slam other people for still enjoying this game and not giving a shit about a company trying to make money are even more obnoxious than the people who "defend" a "greedy" corporation. I got a solution for you. Leave the game, leave the forum and go play gwent or whatever you enjoy.
This game is expensive af. I bought the biggest preorder bundle for Dark Moon Faire plus Tavern Pass and I cant craft any meta deck out of 30 possible! LMFAO

if you really think, everyone should have every single card without spending any money on them TCGs and CCGs just aren't for you. collecting cards and building decks with limited resources which you can improve over time is one of the main parts of the genre and for a lot of people it's a huge factor when it comes to the fun of the game. judging by your other replies I'm sure this won't help, bc it seems like you only want to hear that you're right/ want us to rant with you, but at least I tried
Not gonna lie most of you people seem kinda crazy on this whole pro-f2p/anti-f2p... both sides. I'm actually really glad I don't know any of you. Pouring tons of energy into "issues" like this seems really pointless. I get that I am posting in the forum, but can anybody throw me a bone here and simply bitch about a card or something?? This endless debate on who is a shill or not is getting very tiresome
I would like to state that this sort of game is bound to be more expensive than other games. There are constantly new updates and expansions --- full of new music, artwork, voice acting (in many languages), plenty of new game mechanics and designs, none of which are cheap. They spend a grand amount of money and put in a lot of effort to make this game the best they know how. Albeit, not everything they do and every choice they make is best for the game, but Hearthstone has proven to be one of the overall best designed online card games, and not just with its game mechanics but also its atmosphere and presentation. So, naturally the game will not be cheap for those who want everything; but the game is still very accessible to everyone for free. I just can't see how competing to turn profit for a ton of work is greedy, at all, especially when the game is absolutely free for most people.

Wow. Just wow. Person A comes with arguments and a conclusion of his opinion person B: "Na ah greed. You dumb?" person A:"you know what? Ok, greed" person B: "Ohhh those people going from one extreme to another."
Do you really not see sarcasm?
To bring something to the table: You are not entitled to the full collection in a free to play card game as a f2p player, especially not in the beginning of an exp. It has never been the case and it never will be. A corporation needs to make revenue and if everyone can get everything for free, nobody will pay, obviously.
That said, HS could definetly afford to be more generous it is the priciest digital only CCG after all (I think). But most demands from the "boycot Blizz" front are just plain unrealistic and/or too much/many. Or they aren't even making any and just cry "greed".
Now, the comparison to MTG is a bit sketchy. MTG has a fanbase that evolved on physical cards and has an older and as a result in general wealthier crowd, who longed for a good online variant.
Edit: "whatever I don't care for this dumb forum" Weren't you the one opening this threat in the first place? Didn't you want to know why people are "defending the greed" and wanted to argue about it? You are a pretty big hypocrite aren't you? Gee

points have been said here. honestly. I spend some money for this game to at least show support. Based on experience (and I've been a player since Season 1 mind you) it's a lot cheaper right now.
Before the duplicate protection:
- I would spend about $100 (getting the pre-purchase and packs) and not have a complete collection and far from completion at that
Before the achievement system:
- I would accumulate just a few gold before the expansion releases (2000g at the most because I can't be dedicated as I want to be due to my occupation). That assumes I have a near complete or complete collection.
After both:
- Complete collection at just $100
- Already at 1000 gold and still a few levels before reaching 50
****
Anyway, supporting what you call "greedy" company because like what others said, it's a similar to MtG for me. Anyway, $100 is similar to me buying an expansion in WoW plus subscription for 4 months (WoW might be more expensive, don't know... don't play). Bottomline - they're a business.
Now if you cannot even respect our stand or opinion on that matter, it's your problem, not ours. From what I see, you're asking for an explanation but at the same time expecting a specific answer that suits your arguments.
>all cards should have been free

Because there are multiple sides of the discussion, and you are not objectively correct, that might have something to do with it.
Also, you can enjoy a perfectly healthy collection by purchasing a preorder and spending 8000 gold per expansion.
(think long and hard before you answer please)
more and more epics have become vital for a decks in order to compete, does that make the game more or less expensive(think long and hard before answer please)
it is not just the simple fact that there is more cards so the game is more expensive, that is totally fine and something most people understand is not the subject of the conversation (i dont believe you understand this) it is that the new playable cards have in larger quantity become more and more expensive and therefor raising the price of the game
this is all because of shareholders are trying to squeeze the money out of the community and with that killing the game, which i think is bad because I like the game in general and i do not want it to be unplayable
how you fail to see this, can hardly be anything other than incompetence and you should not be speaking of running a business because clearly you are not either
I cannot believe I even make topics like this, having to defend common reason to super spergs all over
nr.1 prices are different in different countries and I can get cyperpunk 2077 in the stores for an amount that translate to 48.97 euro so that is what I write down in my example
nr2 70 euros is still no wear near blizzard prices
nr3 no
and to your own point how do hearthstone get new players if you need to play and pay for each previous expansion in order to keep up? it is a sign of a game that is about to die
and to what I expect for hearthstone is to be able to play around 3-5 decks when iv bought both preorders + the fkn cthun bundle
yo momma is dumb lol
i mean if you're talking about collecting all the cards in the game, sure its more expensive lol.
Wtf u on??
Leave the game, leave the forum and go play gwent or whatever you enjoy.
the top meta deck is 2 epics and 4 rares
these are the types of idiots that I argue with, smh... they go from one extreme to another without any rational middle ground
People get paid by blizzard to support blizzard on social media.
sometimes it feels like it is the only thing that would make their moronic statements make sense
if you really think, everyone should have every single card without spending any money on them TCGs and CCGs just aren't for you. collecting cards and building decks with limited resources which you can improve over time is one of the main parts of the genre and for a lot of people it's a huge factor when it comes to the fun of the game. judging by your other replies I'm sure this won't help, bc it seems like you only want to hear that you're right/ want us to rant with you, but at least I tried
Yogg take the wheel!
do you play the game? it is buggy and laggy af
Wow. Just wow.
Person A comes with arguments and a conclusion of his opinion
person B: "Na ah greed. You dumb?"
person A:"you know what? Ok, greed"
person B: "Ohhh those people going from one extreme to another."
Edit:
"whatever I don't care for this dumb forum"
Weren't you the one opening this threat in the first place? Didn't you want to know why people are "defending the greed" and wanted to argue about it?
You are a pretty big hypocrite aren't you? Gee
