Now and then I see people defending blizzard and their greedy actions and I am just not capable of understanding why...
not long ago games cost around 70 euro, what do they cost now? these "f2p" models cost often way way way more than 70 euro, that is if you are not contempt at either only playing the cheapest of cheap decks pretty much exclusively and otherwise get slapped around by players who have bought the competitive cards... many decks don't even work without legendary / epic cards and a legendary card has a cost around 25 euro and epics 6.25 euro
comparing that to Cyperpunk 2077 with a cost of around 48,97Euro (one time purchase) is it really that difficult to see that the hearthstone community is getting ripped off? 1 hearthstone deck cost 2.8x as much as the newest of the newest triple A games... and again that is just 1 deck and not even the most expensive one
I don’t get why these people are still supporting the greed in this company....this is for sure one of the most expensive game to play and not to add a gamble whenever you preorder as you can get jack shiiit
I agree that the cost of Hearthstone is indefensible and many people irrationally defend HS because of a sort of loyalty. That said, people who spend less than 10$ on a new expansion release contribute nothing to game development and shouldn't be taken seriously.
Most people defending blizzard only talk about the most insane demands like removing demon hunter, giving away half the cards for free etc. I know this is kind of doing the same strawman argumentation, but are there anyone who confidently argue for anything other than "It's not THAT bad"? Whether or not the new tavern pass system is better or worse than the old one is not worth discussing. The game is getting more expensive with the new mini sets, so we need to earn SIGNIFICANTLY more than before to make the game more affordable.
If we can't get all the cards from an expansion within 4 months of release without paying 100$ or more, then the new system is a failure, and the game continues to be extremely expensive.
I see Hearthstone as a CCG, not a video game. Coming from an MtG background, HS is incredibly cheap. I don’t get what all the fuss is about.
OMG, you're back! Haven't seen you on the forums for so many years. If I remember correctly you used to be a mod, don't you? Good to know you are still alive. :P

go play MtG then where you collect cards and not hearthstone where you craft cards on an account that you don't own
140 euro for 1 deck will never be cheap, especially when the games progressively pushes out new cards designed to replace the old ones every year in order for you to buy cards for a new deck
Yeah, I'm just not clear what anyone expected in the first place. One of the main reasons any company would fashion a digital game to look like a card game is to prime the game's player base to expect a rather large price tag to stay completely up to date with all new cards and such. All corporations are "greedy" pursuers of profit, so that's nothing new. But what always seems strange is the utter surprise a lot of forum goers seem to exhibit at the price tag.
I've largely left the "Hearthstone is more and more expensive" story line to pass without comment, but that simply isn't the case for some. I have spent money to ensure that I had all or nearly all of every set that's come out, and the duplicate protection has lowered the amount of money I've spent much more than the mini-sets have increased it. Of course, I don't just log on once every three days to finish quests; I actually play the game a fair amount. So, I end up with a fair amount of packs each set before I've spent dollar one. Under that pattern of play, the game is noticeably cheaper today.
Not that it would be particularly noteworthy if that weren't true. As someone mentioned above, I've spent my years playing magic, a game which cost me untold amounts of money to pursue. This just isn't a very surprising expense to me.

Helpful Clarification on Forbidden Topics for Hearthstone Forums:
Enjoying Americans winning in the Olympics is forbidden because it is political. A 14 plus page discussion of state-sponsored lawsuits against a multi-national corporation based on harassment, discrimination, and wrongful death allegations is apparently not political enough to raise an issue.

Gatekeeping: always a trashy look.
I can’t afford MtG anymore. I’m not a whale, just a slightly overweight porpoise. :)
If set rotation bothers you, just play Wild. It’s a fun format, and much cheaper than Standard. Even after a 3 year break, I was able to pick up a couple of my Wild decks and compete with just a few card slots tweaked.
I used to pay 49.99 USD for expacs like 2-3 years ago, and I'm paying the same amount now....and maybe the gold id get from doing quests a month before the expac
- now i have duplicate protection
- get a free pre-expansion legendary
- get a free legendary on logging in after expac releases
- there are 6 quests now, and you get xp from losing as well
WTF are ya'll talking about, you don't need to get every single skin in the game, or get every single card in the game (you didn't do that before either so stfu). You can choose to collect all the cards in the game so you have some fancy hero power in duels if you want, you don't even have to play that, just play the standard game that you did before when the game was "less" expensive. All collectable card games are like this...
Its literally not getting more expensive; its less than what it was 2-3 years ago, only valid argument would be that you maybe get old packs as a reward...also businesses need to generate more revenue so they can release more content, so they're offering new incentives, but you can still play the collectible card game that you enjoyed 2-3 years ago, w/o any increase in price...
This game is expensive af. I bought the biggest preorder bundle for Dark Moon Faire plus Tavern Pass and I cant craft any meta deck out of 30 possible! LMFAO

this is the type of stuff I talk about... what kind of person argues like this? why defending a greedy cooperation??
I don't support blizzard but those numbers are too big. Let's say you craft Zephrys the Great but you can play it in more decks so the price will drop. Yeah, pure paladin uses cards that can only be used in paladin decks but don't forget that pure package isn't even that good (hsreplay free stats are not trust worthy for most players). The main theme of paladin is librams and that's why this class is good right now. Librams are played in pure, n'zoth, dude and broom paladin so again, you can play more than 1 deck for that cost. You can get most common and rare cards from packs so no need to spend dust crafting them. Some legendaries are not even needed if you want to grind for legend and are afraid you can't without those expensive cards, they just give a slight boost.
Again, I don't support blizzard, I hate the new reward system. Even if I will get more gold before next expansion (and after the mini set is released) than I did before, I can't see myself playing that much every single expansion, this will be just 'the first time try'. Anyway, as a CCG I understand why they don't want everyone to have a full collection but spending $120 on a pre purchase and still missing cards is just stupid. Too bad they won't lower the price as long as people pre purchase everytime.

Where are you getting these random ass prices from dude?
I spent 100 this xpac and have 21 legs, 25 epics. I am only missing 9 cards from the set. If I got 21 legs from $100 worth of purchase, obviously 1 leg is not worth $25, it is not even worth $5.
As for your pricing on AAA games, number one, Cyberpunk 2077 costs €59.99 or $59.99. Amazon is having a preorder sale, but if you're going to use Amazon prices, you can also buy Amazon Coins for up to 20% off Hearthstone packs too.
Number 2, that $60 purchase is moving to $70/€70 for many games next gen.
Number 3, those single purchases are being subsidized for you by other people who spend on mtx and cosmetics.
I agree that Blizzard could afford to be more generous, but you need to make accurate arguments. I can build any deck I want and I just get one bundle per xpac. Even back when I was full F2P, which I was for about 4 years, I could make 3-4 decks per xpac with no issues.
What exactly are you expecting from the game as a F2P? To be able to make any deck you want with full legendaries and no substitutions? Because that isn't a realistic want
The world isn't black and white. While I feel like HS is too expensive and the new reward path is disappointing, I also understand that HS was made to make money. There was so much blowback when the BG pass was released, like Blizzard was supposed to spend all that time, money and resources creating the mode without expecting any money from it. Companies don't stay in business by giving all their crap away for free.
For me, HS is in the grey zone. It's too expensive, 100% agree with that. I shouldn't have to spend $300 every year to get a couple of competitive decks. But I also think people who somehow think that Blizzard should make this a 100% F2P-friendly game are just being silly. If they were to recreate the game from scratch, sure, they could design it as true F2P with other ways to monetize. That's not going to happen though, so the game is stuck with the monetization model that it has, which is selling packs to people. So will I defend their right to charge for new game modes and to charge for packs? Absolutely. Will I defend the price-points they have chosen? Not at all.
