There's been a lot of discussion about the end-of-season gold hoard we're likely to have and, while not everyone agrees (nor do we have all the information), many believe that we'll have less, or significantly less, than before. One thing that I haven't seen discussed in detail is how much less we'll have if we only do the quests we did before (i.e. ignoring weekly quests) and rack up a few wins in the process.
I'm currently at Level 25 and need 3,450 XP for the 150g that comes with reaching Level 26. This represents almost 4 daily quests' XP. In the old system it would've taken fewer than 3 dailies to net the same gold. By the time one reaches Level 50+, you need up to 4,500 XP for each 150g or about 5 completed dailies. Going from Level 48 to 50 requires an astronomical 18,300 XP and awards just 300g (and a portrait). That's 20 daily quests worth of XP for 300g!
Now I think it's great that we have weekly quests and accomplishments to complete (as well as additional cosmetics), but these are extra challenges we chose to do and shouldn't been included in a like-for-like comparison between the new and old systems. Any extra work (e.g. weekly quests) should offer rewards above and beyond the previous system.
I really like the idea of the Rewards Track but, man, does it feel bad.
Well, my friend, do I EVER have news for you. But you have to sit down before reading any further. It's for your own safety.
7 days from now, when you hit Level 27. Guess what you get???
An ASHES OF OUTLAND pack!!!
OMG the party you'll have if you live in a place without current COVID restrictions. Imagine how sad you'd have been if you were given, say, a Grand Tournament pack instead? That expansion SUCKED!
Personally I do live in a place where I'm not allowed to have parties, so I had to open my Outland pack in solitude. The 40 dust was a nice consolation prize though.
Yeah, I basically have to agree. As many others will.
It just doesn't feel as good as I'm sure Blizzard thought it would. I think if they just increased the amount of EXP you gain overall, this wouldn't seem like it's as much of a grind for less than what we expect.
I mean, they can still have the tavern pass or whatever to increase exp/gold gain, but for everyone in general, seems like it should be increased to make it more satisfying and feel like progress.
Lots of people upset, maybe it will change, maybe it won't?

Enjoy dude, seriously. So awesome.
We're in a partial lockdown until January. The upside is I won't have to share that handsome AoO pack with anyone. It's the little things that make life worth it.
Problem is how little Wins grant experience. Let's just for a minute consider, that old and new quests give same amount of gold (i know it's much less, but let's do it for a second) so post level 50 to get 150 gold from 1 level we need 4500 experience. From 1 win we get like 30 (bare in mind we don't get any exp from opponent insta consedes as we did before). But let's be generous and say we average 30 exp. so we need 4500 / 30 = 150 wins for 150 gold or 1 gold from 1 win. Prior we got 3,3 from 1 win. It's just obnoxious! We get less from quests and we get way less from Wins as well (((

I mean that's... relatively the same. 3x XP for 3x the gold reward per level. I think it should probably be a little better, to encourage people to *want* to go through the track before the end of the season... but it's about the same XP-gold ratio.
The level 50 reward just being a portrait is kinda lame I guess if you don't care about cosmetics. Also I dunno why we'd discount the weekly quests?

While the new system has its flaws, this kind of manipulation is simply ridiculous.
You pretend that weekly quests don't exist. We are talking about 6500 weakly XP, aka ~900 XP per day. That means you are simply ignoring nearly a half of daily XP gain from quests. That means that 3450 XP takes two days (min daily XP is 800XP(min daily quest)+900XP (1/7th of weekly quests) And don't say me that doing weekly quests is too hard. It is no harder than doing all dailies.
Im honestly holding my opinions of the new system until the end of expansion. If my gold is less than 5k its shit and blizzard are greedy and bad, if its more or equal its fine.

I wish more people had your patience.
They've already announced that there will be special events to boost XP during the season, so it doesn't make sense to be judging everything until we have more info.
I'm at lvl 28 and this feels way more like grinding than it used to and I absolutly hate grinding. Like, idk why but it makes me want to not even play anymore. Feels almost as bad as high lvl clash of clans grinding to me.

I'm just comparing like for like. Will I get the same if I do the same? I agree that many of the weeklies are easy to finish, but they are additional.
It would be cool if you finished a game and you got experience for different things that happened: #cards drawn, #minions killed, #spells played, #turns, etc on top of a flat amount of XP for winning a match.
The battle pass xp progression draws inspiration from the likes of Fortnite, and in Fortnite it’s satisfying to know that if I am going to lose a game I will at least get experience for the things I made an effort to do (killing an enemy, reviving a teammate, how long I was alive for)
As it stands now, length of match and victory are the only factors considered I believe, and I think that could only incentivize fast aggro decks and roping. I want to believe the greater population of players would like to play meaningful games against a variety of decks.
Im honestly holding my opinions of the new system until the end of expansion. If my gold is less than 5k its shit and blizzard are greedy and bad, if its more or equal its fine.
if you complete the pass, you'll get 5,5k gold + all the packs and legendaries
It’s widely accepted that the battle pass is a mess and people are stopping playing the game because of it ( well mainly, plus the boring meta that goes on for years).
it’s the simplest battle pass system I’ve ever seen, purely focusing on how blizzard can make more $$ rather than how to help players enjoy the game.
In my opinion the biggest flaw in the new system is how often it feels rewarding.
In the previous system you immediately see your gold go up after a quest or 3 wins. This feels rewarding and gets you closer to another pack or arena ticket.
The new system rewards you less often. You get xp for completing a quest.. You see no result from it, until you reach the next level!
And what happens at the end of a season. Say you are a few 100 xp short of lvl 49. You will feel cheated.
In the previous system you immediately see your gold go up after a quest or 3 wins. This feels rewarding and gets you closer to another pack or arena ticket.
If I was in their place I would add additional, minor but immediate rewards to daily\weekly quests. 5-10 gold, random card (with average dusting cost 10, so mostly commons but with a chance to open anything), discount for the next arena\heroic duel.
So you have reached lvl 25 in a bit more than two weeks (I am lvl 27, a bit helped with XP from duels and gameplay achievements from the new expansion)
so given the numbers you showed, it should be possible, without the shitty tavern pass, to reach lvl50 in between 2 and 3 months and then to continue farming gold with the exp needed to lvl up droping to 4000+ XP and increasing again.
So they also announced some more event with quests and all (no sign of any legendary quest for now but it should appear sometime).
All in all, I will side with devil here and say that this is not as bad as I thought. I can still do on par with before by playing enough with what they changed. Of course monetization sucks and all, espacially with the mini-set + duels that force you to have cards from olders sets (that I fully desenchanted), but maybe we should wait the end of this season before drawing conclusions. Maybe it actually is worse, maybe not.

Let's see.
remember that the levels you reached now have been easy. You are still at a little over 3k a level, wait until a level is 8k.
First 25 levels: 41,700 XP. Next 25 levels: 150,500 XP.
