I always played lots of arena at the start of an expansion in order to grind packs, used to be the best strategy for f2p players. Now that we barely get any gold due to this fucked up system, arena just became so risky!
If i failed my run and didnt get the 150g back, i need to grind 1 or 2 levels, which takes forever (im lvl 20 and progression already feels like a chore). No one pays to get arena tickets, if i were to pay real money id just get packs directly! Did they even think things through??
Arena was already in decline as it has to compete with new modes, and now they are taking away any incentive to play it. Arena was the only reason I still considered HS "f2p" since the rewards are so good, but that reality is long gone it seems.
I dont understand. Arena has the same rewards as before as far as I know. Getting gold to have some backup resources for it is easy, especially at the start of the reward track.
If you are a good player, you can still go infinite, just like in the old system.

Imagine if you're a new player, just starting out. You dont want to spend money yet cuz you're still trying out the game, so you play arena to grind packs, as every f2p should. You're not very good at it cuz you're noob, so most of your runs dont give you the 150g back. After spending all your initial gold, you must grind lvls in the battle pass. It takes FOREVER, so you play arena less and less often, and still you havent earned nearly enough to build the deck you want, so what do you do? Spend real money or quit the game.
If even veterans cant always go infinite e grind in arena, what about the new players? Forget arena, the whole game can die if they keep treating f2p players like this.

Yeah, it's a shame. In the old system even if you weren't the best player you could play arena every two days. Now, it's possible that you can only play once a week in the later stages of the system. It encourages spending money and that's bad. Now, if the mediocre players can't effort arena only the good will remain and the skill ceiling will rise again. Making it even more difficult to achieve higher wins. It's a loss for everyone.
As a new player you shoukd definately NOT play arena to grind packs. How does it make sense? A new player will barely get to 3 wins. How is this a good advise?
I‘m a F2P player too, but i find arena is a horrible game mode. And i doubt a new player can even enjoy it.
Usually you want to have atleast 1000g saved up for Arena for a new Expo, but Its not for New Players imo especially
With the Release of Duels i'd recommend trying your free ticket(s) there (I Assume it has the exact same reward structure as Arena) but before clicking Heroic or whatever try your luck at the Free one without rewards practice abit (maybe get atleast 6-7 win there)
Also If you can manage to get 11-12 wins the XP u get is over 10000 also. from those chest icon achievements.
I'd Say Arena doesn't die until they add MMR to it or remove the rewards (making it a free mode).

Literally this. I've been playing since beta and still havent managed a 12 win run, I got 11 like... twice. I still play it plenty but it's not really consistent, and a new player DEFINITELY should not be focusing on it. Especially with Blizz giving all new players a free competitive deck of their choice and tons of bonuses. They should be learning to play the game in low-rank mode, not smacking their face into Arena and dying repeatedly when they dont even know which cards do what yet
I'm not actually clear here. I don't feel like your post explained what they actually changed? The new rewards system, even if it's worse than the original gold quest system (which... I don't think it noticeably is, at least from my perspective) still gives you gold from playing the game (in more modes than just standard) and you get gold from doing quests.

New players is another topic but OP said he is a veteran arena player. So I dont see whats his problem.
The frontloaded new system doesnt punish veteran arena players at all.
Its not about Arena itself. Its about new gold reward system in general. Obviously they just cut amount of gold you can earn by playing. Now it takes MUCH longer to get 100 gold for a pack, or 150 for Arena ticket. At least after level 20 its more and more frustrating cause it takes forever to earn something. With this new reward system HS is not a free to play anymore. At least its impossible to play Standard where you need gold for cards. People just want more money i guess. I just dont understand why they telling us that new system gives us more gold. Completly bullshit.

I'm still under level 25, so maybe it gets way worse later on, but I'm not experiencing this? Seems about the same to me. Certainly not much longer anyway.
I used to play 1-2 quests in order to have enough gold for a run (plus the gold from my previous run). In that way, I probably did 4-5 runs per week over the past year. I'm not very good - I probably average 4-5 wins per run. I've hit 12 wins only 6 times total.
Now, when I'm up at level 40 or 50, I may have to grind for 10 days or more just to be able to do an arena run.
The constant income stream is a better way to give out gold than the frontloaded system they just introduced.
No one pays to get arena tickets, if i were to pay real money id just get packs directly!
If you were considering buying packs anyway, then Arena only needs to pay out 50 gold to break even, because you get a pack as a prize too. That only takes about 4 wins. (IIRC)
Obviously noobs won’t be grinding Arena for value yet, but anyone halfway decent at the game should be able to scrape up 50 gold + a pack reasonably consistently.

Guess my experience was different then. When I started, my friends said the best way to get packs was to play Arena, so after learning the basics I started grinding there with the heartharena app. It was hard the first few times, but then I started getting 4-5 wins consistently, some 7-8 wins here and there, and boy were the rewards worth it.
Im not a fan of Arena either, but it used to be the most profitable grinding method for f2p players so I always played a lot at the start of an expac.
Nowadays it doesnt feel nearly as good cuz theres barely any gold to get from other sources, so if you're short on gold and you go on a bad losing streak, you're DONE. The f2p experience took a big nose dive into shit with the battle pass, and I think that hurts arena the most.

The battle pass gives you way less gold than it used to, and the game mode that suffers from that the most is arena imo. Even if you got in a bad losing streak (which happened many times over the years) you could still try arena again after playing ladder for a day, thats not the case anymore.
The mode became much more unforgiving, not getting the full 150g back can screw you up good if you're short on gold, maybe even forcing you to wait many days before you can try again, I cant see how that helps a mode that already has a harder time getting attention from the community. Just wanted to know if anyone else thought the same.
When I started as a f2p, I loved arena because it was the only mode where I could play all those cards I didn't have. It's still a great mode for that.

Yes it is, I mean Blizzard could do offer free arena tickets every 5 levels in addition to the regular reward that would make the system a little bit better.

it must be a really bad thing to be someone like you in real life. I don't understand this ignoble thing in defend white privilegies, more monetary scams and already rich ppl. I don't understand ppl that defend bosses and savage capitalist systems...I really don't understand if this is some sort of lack of character and ppl like you don't actually believe the own shit but still like to defend it like a Shiny golden Troll online. I mean, if there's for real ppl out there defending this system they really need to see a professional of some sort, something is really wrong. This new system is worse than Russia Agressive Capitalism from 90's

yes, if you run out of gold, you can no longer do arena, *forever(TM)*
