People have been asking for ages for a progression system, a reason to play, something to work towards, now you can earn some cool cosmetics. You also get XP for losing which is great, now I can play whatever deck I want and losing won't feel so bad. I don't have to play aggro decks to farm out the daily gold limit, I can just play.
Does anyone here actually play this game for fun anymore? Or is it just about grinding out gold as fast as possible and closing the game? I have to ask why even play at that point? All these spreadsheets about how you earn a little less gold over 4 months of playtime makes me think a lot of people are just addicted but don't actually enjoy the game. You realize the game is supposed to be enjoyed? It's a game after all, not a second job.
I hope I'm not the only one feeling good about the direction of the game.
I gotta agree, I absolutely love this new system. I personally love playing this game like 24/7 so the fact my gameplay is more rewarded by having do I earn instead of 10g for 3 wins is a dream come true. Not entirely sure but I think there’s a lot more gold to be earned than previously thought, considering you can get 150g for each rank above 50.
I agree it is a good direction, and I like the new system. However, players protest and complain specifically because they love the game. They don’t want the game to get worse. The sentiment here is that the new 35 card mini-expansions increase the cost of the game about 26%, but the new reward system does nor increase the amount of rewards by 26%. It is a fair thing to say, and people do enjoy the game, otherwise they wouldn’t complain; they just wouldn’t care at all.
I normally have over 10k gold saved for every expansion. This system gives you less gold and more current expansion packs, it’s designed to make you pay to play the new cards the day the6 are released. F2P players are finished by this,

I dislike the revamp mostly because it reminds me WAY TOO MUCH of cheap f2p mobile games that lure you in with flashy and loud rewards at the begining but as you progress you realize it's "either grind or pay up buddy." The issue is that most of us (I hope) have responsibilites we attend to so we can't just grind 5+ hours every day. I think for most of us this isn't even our "main game". I play it when I go to the coffee shop or when venting down after a long day of studying. And I really love Hearthstone and our community. But I can't escape the feeling that this new system will make me fall behind really hard.
And the disgrace called "battle pass" I don't even wanna talk about. Hearthstone made good money as it is. This is just the Elder Vampires at Activision commanding more revenue. Truly a despicable company.
Rewards for this Expansion were actually pretty generous, we got two free legendarys, Silas and a Random one, 6 free Scholomance Packs for playing Duels (only if you Pre Order Mega Bundle) 2 Darkmoon Faire Packs from watching Streamers for 4 Hours, 3 Darkmoon Faire Packs from completing the first levels of the new Reward System, and there will be another free Legendary on Level 25 and a decent looking Hero Skin for your favorite class on Level 50.
Newbies or casuals cant really complaint, its the Grinders who have reason to complaint as Activi$ion-Blizzard basically capped things down quite a bit, like hundreds of threads here have explained already in detail.
Still for Casuals or even Semi heavy active players this new System is the BETTER deal, as they get rewarded free Legendarys and free Packs, and aren't really bothered if they cant grind up to 8k- 10k Gold anymore between Expansions.

It’s far worse for casual players. It rewards hardcore players but craps on anyone who wants twenty min to do quests and get out.
I quite like the concept of the system and as of right now it feels great. That said if what people are saying is true I can imagine it will kinda suck not getting any rewards for several days I always thought it was nice to open a pack every other day or so. At this point I am reserving judgment until i see how the system actually feels further down the road. I love that I get xp for all game modes thats awesome and like anyone I wish there were more free rewards but I think I need to wait and see more if this will end up being a positive or negative overall.
I'm sure you are not the only one liking the new system more, but I can't say I do. I like parts of it, like achievements and the idea of weekly quests and exp per game, instead of just awarding wins. But with that change, they turned the game into a worse grindfest than it has ever been. And as a whole, the game got a LOT worse for me.
When the pack rules and the ladder rewards were changed earlier this year, the game was actually feeling pretty good. Since you could buy packs from older expansions again, I wanted to get all the commons and rares of every set. I knew I would never get all legendaries or epics (or anywhere close to that), but that was fine with me. I just wanted to have all those older cards and then craft the epics and legendaries I liked. I wanted to have a large collection, and I was pretty excited about Duels with that in mind. Without giving up on new expansions, it would have taken me another few months to save enough gold for older expansions. I would buy like 60 packs from the new sets, just enough to get the commons and rares, and save 2-3k for the rest.
You talk about fun? Well, that was unfortunately what I had fun planning and doing in this game. Not to mention the fun from playing games with new and old cards. For the last few years, I cared more about Wild than Standard anyway. Now, that has become virtually impossible. The new system gives you barely enough gold to get all the rares from a new expansion, even if you factor in the packs you get, and requires even more grinding doing so. No real way of saving anything for other stuff.
And it's not just "slightly less". In the old system, the minimum amount of gold you made per week was 350 (only 50g quests, 0 wins) and just with rerolls and playing a few games per day, 450-500g was fairly achievable, and 600-700 possible, if you played a bit more. And it didn't matter if you played Ranked, Casual or Tavern Brawl (I personally liked Brawl best, depending on the week). For years, I could always gets something between 2000 and 2500 every month. it's not the most I could have made, some people certainly made more. But I didn't need more, and I didn't want more. Considering the amount of time I had to invest, that was what I was comfortable with.
In the new system, I feel forced to play Ranked all the time, just because the Exp gain in other modes isn't worth it. And now, it takes you roughly 3 months to get to level 50 (after which you made 4200 gold), and then you can get 300 gold per week, maybe 450 if you play a lot, for the few weeks remaining until the next expansion. And in addition, there's 170 cards per expansion.
Yes, the game is about having fun. And it's less fun now for me. Being pretty much forced into ranked in order to keep up, being forced to give up on my collection goals, feeling like constantly going uphill when the hill just got a lot steeper gives me a miserable feeling. And feeling miserable is pretty much the opposite of having fun.
If you have fun roping every single turn every single game while eating jars of Nutella, and doing 50 pushups after every loss to fight the calories, that's good for you. I'm sure you'll continue to have a blast. But I had fun playing some casual games, some tavern brawls, making some gold every other day, and improving my collection bit by bit. And for me, that fun is gone.
I don't know... maybe I'll play Battlegrounds more, maybe Duels from time to time if I happen to have some good cards for the current set rotation, maybe I'll quit Hearthstone for good. But I'll definitely give up on my collection goals, and on constructed entirely once my decks have all become outdated (in a few days). Because that's where the new system is pushing me to. And I can't say I like it.
I'm okay with the new system. About my only complaint is that I can't reroll that dumb Duel Quest. I have zero interest in duels and it's eating up a quest slot.

Rude as this may be to say but the only fathomable reason for you to like the new system is because you are naive and don't understand it. You will realise how awful it is once you go a month from now, where you need a whole week of quests and hours of normal play exp just to get to another level past Level 25.
The new system is front loaded with easy rewards just to please people like you, who bother to check how much of a grind it will be in the late levels.
Let me know how fun it is when you go a whole week to level up just for you reward to be a useless Ashes of outland pack lol.
People care about gold not because they are collectors or they enjoy the grind, because it's literally what enables a lot of players to play this game each expansion. And a difference of 2200 gold between the two systems is a big deal especially with the inclusions of mini sets.
The new system isn't all bad. It's good that there is exp to earn in all game modes, the problem is the number of those exp points which represent an even bigger grind than 10g per 3 wins.

You need 10hr per day to complete those levels post lvl 50...

Genuine question here - if you literally play to hop on for 20 minutes, do your quest and log out, why do you care? Like, you clearly aren't bothered about ladder, yiu can do those quests in casual but what do you want the gold for? Packs that you don't really need because you're so casual you can pretty much get by on budget decks like the ones Old Guardian will put out that are competitively viable?
I see this type of post a lot and if all I cared for from a game was ticking a box each day then I wouldn't concern myself with the nitty gritty of the rewards because they don't really impact me. I understand if you dip into that here and there but otherwise play semi regularly or to climb ladder for fun outside quests but I've never seen that clarification. It's always "I log in, do my quest and log out".
So genuinely, why does it even bother you? I play casually but that's still far more casual than me and as long as I'm getting semi decent amounts to get like 40 or 50 packs on expansion launch I've always been totally fine and able to make multiple decks, have dust reserves etc. You don't even need that, right?
Yes reward system seems attractive at first then you realize that there is a significant amount of hours of play to progress....so not for casual players and for the others it's pay and/or grind. The good thing is that you get the xp whether you lose or win. This being said...I am ok with it. It won't change the way I play and I don't intend to pay for the tavern pass. I'll take whatever I can get...good enough for me.
I personally think it's a great concept, but poorly executed. As a player that spends quite a bit of money on the game, maybe I shouldn't be that concerned, but there's that one thing I don't really like - I would much rather get 100 gold every 2 days than get 350 after a week. I just like getting smaller rewards every now and then than get bigger ones rarely. Also, it was proven that the system is overall less rewarding. With the old system, I would each expansion buy the mega bundle + a smaller one or a few, preferably with some hero skins cause I love them, and I would be able to earn 90% of all expansion cards which is great. Will it be harder now? I don't know, I guess time will show that.

Here’s a novel concept. Why don’t folks do some real life odds and ends and earn real money to buy packs if opening expansion packs means that much to them? I’ve literally been working for the things I wanted to buy since I was 10. It’s like society has forgotten how to hustle.

I've been trying to find something that explains how much exp we get for playing. Can anyone show me where I can read this? Or explain it? I understand that we get exp for playing. How much? Does the mode matter? Does winning/losing matter? TIA
I was thinking about this but ... correct if i'm wrong, But playing casual is now smoother for Deck testers ? or those who are not into ranked and the stress of ranked games. I mean many people would grind in casual for the 30 wins/ 100 gold a day there and made it bad for people who wanna enjoy a peaceful game.

The devs said that ranked mode gives on average 400exp per hour. Battlegrounds 300exp per hour. All the other modes are less than that. Longer games reward more exp but there is a cap at 30 minutes.
