So I'm playing Hearthstone since beta and donated quite a lot into this game. Eventually I came to a point where i don't need to buy packs ever again. Talking about the old reward system. You could get ~60 gold a day and expect around ~8000 gold per expansion (only from quests). And that was more than enough considering you have a good amount of dust + free packs, arenas, events and stuff like that. Another good aspect was that you could play once in 3 days to complete all 3 quests. I quit standard a long time ago and now enjoying the BGs, where you only need 2500 gold per season. But this new system looks very time-consuming and not that fun to do if you don't like other mods like standard or duels. It would be interesting to know (if someone already did some math) how much gold can we get and most importantly how much time is required for that compared to the old system.
The new system looks great for free to play players. I'm really struggling to see why those who are not paying for the game are still complaining?
You have the same rewards as those who pay (excluding some cosmetic skins) and the ability to grind out huge amounts of gold if you put in the time (not to mention multiple free legendaries and packs).
Blizzard has mentioned multiple times that rewards will be the same, if not more than the previous system.
In addition, the system is front-loaded, the first rewards are easy to obtain and take little effort. This system seems to allow free to play players the ability to grind enough gold to get quite a few packs when the expansion drops next week, the battleground pass, or to save for the mini-expansion.
Yes, they are killing FTP. For now its like 3-4k gold for whole expansion? I belive its 3-4 times less then we usually got from quests and wins for 4 month of expansion

There is a big thread on reddit where somebody crunches the numbers and even with optimistic approximations it seems the system will overall net you less reward for the time spend compared to previous system. It is masked by front-loading the system with easy reward but damn, the greed is real. This is first time I am actually really pissed off at Blizzard. They will not see any money from me even if it means I can build only 1 or 2 competitive decks an expansion.
agreed, i'm usually buying 2/3 lower tier preorders in a year but it's getting harder and harder and more expensive to build cool decks. No wonder everyone just plays the same top aggro decks when they can't craft something fun. They're literally lowering the fun of the game by making fun cards harder to come by for bigger % of people
Well FTP is pretty screwed, I've played continuously for 3 hours ranked and I got 7 xp per minute.
For level 16 and the 100 g reward I need 2400 xp.
2400 / 7 minutes = 342 minutes (~ 6h) required to get the 100 gold reward from level 16 through grinding. Before the patch I was able to grind the 100 gold cap with aggro in less than 2h 30m (with conceding against priests and slow decks).
You WON'T be able to get the same rewards with the SAME time invested as before the battle pass.
As a control player and a college student who hasn't spent a cent on the game since starting in 2016, I like the new system at first glance. I don't play enough to get the max amount of money each month.
F2P who used to grind daily for 100g with Face Hunter are a bit screwed, but it doesn't mean that all F2P are screwed.
Those who played 2-3 games a day and possibly long ones with controlish decks definitely benefit from the new system for example
Not only aggro players are affected. No matter if you play control, against aggro you win or lose in less than 5 minutes, unless you like to rope every turn to roleplay as a chess grandmaster.
Old system was much better. I could log in once in 3 days, do the quests, buy 1-2 packs and be free. Now they expect you to grind these cheevos 24/7 like some streamer.
It is masked by front-loading the system with easy reward...
This is the key point, in my opinion. People that don't think about it too hard will believe the new system is better because, at the beginning, it throws packs and gold at you. Blizzard are not just greedy, they are cunning as well.
If you value your real time, you are F2P and you don't have a big bank you have two adequate options:
1) Leave ASAP
OR
2) Grind as usual (no extra time) and get maximum 40 packs from each expansion - this means you get the packs at the end of each expansion cycle depending on how many you got through the quest system. You save ALL THE GOLD and MANA. You don't craft cards. And you wait 5-6 years for Hearthstone to get into maintenance mode. Then you craft the top tier decks and play the game as normal.
The full track 1-50 is worth about 8600 gold so if you do that you are getting more value than previously plus any extra 150 gold ticks at the end of the season. However lots of that value is tied up in card packs and free Legendaries so you will have less pure gold on your account to spend on the new expansion on day 1.
It's better for consistent players, worse for players who only log on for 30 minutes every few days to bang out quests.
I like the new system better. Its easier to get something since you are getting experience for just a playing. Value of the new system is not only about gold but you will recieve packs, cards etc. So its definitly more f2p friendly then it used to be.
Also dont understand why everyone is still complaining. When I started to play this game approx. 5 years ago I rememeber that we were recieving only packs from brawl, sometimes there was watch and learn quest and that was it. Maybe few packs at the release date of the expansion but overall now is much easier to get packs and rewards. So many events, packs for climbing a rank etc. Im not sure if ppl expecting that blizzard will give you a whole collection for free and they will run charity bussines but you cant blame them that they want to make some money as well.

Not completely but it's on it's way.

3 minute quest vs hours of commitment. AND a very low hard capped gold total at the end of an expansion. NAH BRUH. I'm out, the game is trash anyway.
The 1st step towards a better game is firing Mike Donais! We had enough of his "skillful" balances!

If you're not willing to invest time, effort, or money, why should you be entitled to a high level of rewards?

Really considering this too.
What kind of twisted logic is that? So do u think that a person that works 16hours a day on Amazon on 7usd average/hour is a winner like you?
