I haven't logged in so far, but having played Legends of Runeterra off and on for a while now, it sounds like a more expensive, less rewarding version of what Riot's doing with that game.
The premium track is terrible, definitely not worth playing for a few 'meh' skins and a bit of extra gold IF you grind wins past level 50.
Every other game like this has extra packs/gold/whatever unlocked by their premium track.
I won't be buying it though I usually buy everything. Really disappointed.
The free track is great though! Looking forward to choosing a hero skin. Can't decided if I take Rogue or Warlock (I had both those sets waaaay back in original WoW).
Every other game like this has extra packs/gold/whatever unlocked by their premium track.
Which makes them feel pay 2 win. Im not saying they are, but the community would riot if there would be a "paywall" to get the goods in the new system.
IMO the new system is F2P friendly, but there are still a lot of players who are upset because they cant get the 10g per 3 wins like they did in the old system. A premium track with gold/pack rewards would just cause more complaining.
Very hard to evaluate, in my opinion, and Blizzard designed it that way. The rewards are all front-loaded, so it feels like I just got a load of gold and packs. However, progress on the pass will slow down a lot now, over the coming months (until the next expansion).
The system is really bad. The first 10-15 levels fly by quickly but getting just one daily quest a day (You wont get 3 new dailies everyday) for 800-1200 xp when the level is 1500+ is a really bad look. The xp ramps up to 4500 at level 50 and stays constant past that point for 150 gold. Meaning you have to complete 5+ dailies to get 150 gold while 5 quests with the older system would get you ~300 gold.
This system is nice till lvl 15. Then it becomes really bad because now you will be earning less gold on a daily basis from the quests.
Just by dailies (not counting how much you play per week) you get around 6k (weekly quest) 5.6k (dailies) per week. That means you need 16 weeks to complete the first 50 ranks. That gets you 50 ranks worth of rewards meaning 4200 gold, 16 packs, 2 legendaries and one epic card.
To put this in perspective, I have a wild account where I just do the daily quest and log out and I have 8300 gold over the 3 months between Scholomance and Today.
I played ranked ladder for 1 hour (No bonus/less xp from wins or losses) and earned 400xp. So I assume 1 hour of ranked play is 400xp. This means that past rank 50, you have to play ranked for OVER 10 HOURS to earn 150 gold ignoring any quests.....That is awful.
As for the "free legendary" when we login for the first time after the changes is shown as a "reward" when it is something we used to get for FREE....(They re-worded something that was free to reward).
TLDR: It is really bad past level 15, old system was way better.
Pretty much all that needed to be said here Before you got around 8k gold just playing casually and doing all your dailies, now you'll be getting 4.2k. Add to that the fact that the cost of the game went up by a lot because of the mid-season mini expansions?
f2p is done for which is what Blizzard wanted, I suppose

Now that I know the numbers, I also did the math and came to the conclusion that you are wrong. You used the math that was convenient for you and ignored it when it wasnt.

The weekly quests are indeed 6k xp/week, but for the dailies you used the absolute minimum value 800 while most quests worth 1000 and there are some 1500 ones, So the more realistic number is 7k xp/week instead of 5.6k. And you didnt add the 400 xp/hour gameplay xp because reasons. 4200 gold + 1600 gold (packs) + 800 gold (2 legendaries, in case you want to disenchant them and 800 dust is about 800 gold) + 100 gold (1 epic) + 200 gold (the 2 ticket which you forgot to mention) = value that is worth about 6900 gold. And thats just the first 50 levels.
To put this in perspective, I have a wild account where I just do the daily quest and log out and I have 8300 gold over the 3 months between Scholomance and Today.
So you made more than 90 gold per day just by doing daily quests? Wow you were really lucky with your dailies.

As someone said, the new system is front-loaded, so its gonna be harder to get gold after lvl 50, but not that hard. Again with the convenient math... If you count your daily xp plus your weekly xp divided by 7 plus 1 hour gameplay per day, you get the correct picture which is 1 level up or 150 gold per 2 days. Which is still better than just doing dailies in the old system if we use average values. As for free legendary, you didnt get Silas?
The weekly quests are indeed 6k xp/week, but for the dailies you used the absolute minimum value 800 while most quests worth 1000 and there are some 1500 ones, So the more realistic number is 7k xp/week instead of 5.6k. And thats just the first 50 levels.
Only first three packs of the latest expansion are worth 100 gold each because you can get 'em immediately upon expansion launch. Others that can be obtained weeks and months later are worth much less. Previous expansion packs are in terms of value worth very little and all other from even older expansion are close to worthless. I don't want packs, I want gold so I can choose which packs I want to buy!
Overall, this new system is worse than the old one for casual players, even if they go with battle pass but It's more rewarding for players who play several hours every day, especially if they choose to buy battle pass.
There is no question that the new system is better than the old one in terms of gold rewarded but it is even more grindier than the old one. And if you only average ~30 to ~60 mins per month than extra gold gained is not worth the extra grind.
So I think this system sucks harder than the last one :(
I thought that you need to buy the battle pass in order to make progress, but it seems that the battle pass is just cosmetics and XP boost, if i'm not mistaken. So this is actually a great addition to the game.

I check out your thread on this and agree with most of it. As for the 8300 gold that was because of the old system giving you 10 gold for every 3 wins!
I do not value the packs given to be nearly as beneficial as more gold however, because half of the packs are from older expansions and serve little to no purpose imo. I think the void that needs to be filled is earning gold as you play irrespective of the xp counter. Bringing back 10 gold for every 3 wins would fill that void. At some point its psychological for a player to see their gold go up every day.
I'm surprised everyone is complaining about not getting 10gp for 3 wins. I always thought it was such a pathetically small amount that it didnt matter much. Maybe people on this page play a lot more than I do but as of right now I quite like the new pass, excited about getting to choose a cool new hero skin at the end

3 months = 90 days. 8300 / 90 = 92.2 Average quest reward was 55g but lets say 60g. So you made 30g plus per day which means 9 victories per day, but you also said "I have a wild account where I just do the daily quest and log out". You could make 8300 per 3 month but not with this strategy.
I think many players agree with you about the psychological need to see the progress and thats the main reason they hate the new system. And I can understand that, I just wanted to show what numbers I got about the new rewards.

I share your outlook haha. I assume there is also a % of people complaining who didn't hit the gold cap regularly or ever (the daily cap) but are still complaining at it no longer being there. People don't just get outraged about what actually affects them, they will happily rant about things that don't really, but they just have to be negative.
It's also why I think so many people on game dedicated forums claim to hate the game they are discussing. Negative people seem to have a need to voice themselves and seek validation from others. It's why they don't use the salt thread, they make a special one of their very own because they don't want the comment being ignored, they need people to agree with them. Happy people typically appear to just crack on. It's been that way with pretty much every game I've played and bothered to look on forums about etc. Lot of people do seem to enjoy playing the victim.
To put it simply they are trying to regulate the amount of gold you can make by reducing the amount made on a daily basis while spreading that amount over time, all while motivating their players to play for a longer duration and on a daily basis. It is a natural occurrence of Activision Blizzard and to be quite honest it has been a long time coming. I am actually amazed it lasted for so long but finally they are showing their teeth.
Ask yourself this, why would a company completely revamp a system that was working just fine and was particularly good for casual F2P players? If it ain't broken why fix it?
Their tavern passes and their battlegrounds (and their duels soon) were not very appealing to me. I didn't find a need or a reason to buy that terribly priced tavern pass and probably a lot of others as well. They wanted to have players buy it and not ignore it like I did so they created this system(to manufacture a need for it) that gives "XP" instead of gold so you can get stuff that they picked for you in their "XP progress trail". They removed your ability to choose how you use your in-game currency and at which speed you accumulate it while making you argue with each other on whether this new system is better than the old.
If you ask me they are doing great as a company. This new system though is much worse in many aspects that go by the average math enthusiast.
Whether you continue to invest time or money in this game is entirely up to you.

So you thought only Mage had an exodia combo eh

Yes it is a wee bit early to give thoughts on it, but it seems fair to all but 1 group of Hearthstone Player type.
If you are F2P and have time, the system is fair (for most part all you have to do is play to unlock stuff)
If you are F2P and don't have time, you might as well find another game to play.
If you are P2P and have time, you get all the shiny toys that F2P wont get for your buck.
If you are P2P and have no time, the game is the same as it was for you before the patch.
what are some of your thoughts on the new system?

Played about ten games. Received: YOGG, 4 packs, 300 gold and an epic (Occult Conjurer) I’m pleasantly surprised.

No, you just "earned" the three packs and random legendary that we used to get for free, along with a pack and a random epic.
