I said it. Most classes are capable of doing much more ridiculous things by turns 2 through 4 than Leokk, Misha, or Huffer really provide. There would be no real harm in being able to select which Companion you need.
Uhhhh, what! They just printed a 3 mana 4/4 taunt with drawback. So you are saying, in essence, that not only should hunter have a 3 mana 4/4 taunt with zero drawback, BUT ALSO the ability to flex this pick if the situation calls for it?
Now, if you had said it should just be “summon huffer” with no other options, I would be okay with it, as it functions this way anyways.
Ashtongue Battlelord - Vanilla statline, with lifesteal, correct class card for 4(!) cost
Illidari Felblade - Again it's 4 mana, and has only immune if it's either side of your hand, hard to play this on curve.
Insatiable Felhound - On curve it's a 3 mana 2/5 with taunt, not that powerful, however you have to activate the corrupt effect for this to be great, so you can play it on turn five at the earliest, (turn 4 if you have coined a 4 mana card on turn 3)
Lightning Bloom - I'm not sure I understand you what is the connection between this card and Animal Companion... Druid class "flavour" is to ramp up easily, it fits for the class, and the 2 overload will cost the player next turn
Sorcerer's Apprentice and Mana Cyclone - Again... Class flavour for mage, and you have to be pretty lucky to mulligan for these to play this at turn 3.
The selection part of your proposal could earn +1 or 2 more mana, because it would be the most versatile card for every situation.
FWIW - the numbers on HSReplays suggest that the card is already one of the highest "win-rate when drawn" and "win-rate when played" cards at 3-mana in the class. Different classes excel at different aspects of the game - if AC were a Warlock or Mage card, it wouldn't see much play. But it's not. The three Hunter decks which currently run the card already dominate the Mage and Druid decks the OP cites as "better" 3-mana decks - and they do fine against DH, with win-rates in the mid- to high-40s.
Instead of complaining about a problem that doesn't appear to exist, it might prove more rewarding to the OP to figure out why Hunter has win-rates in the 60s and low-70s against the decks he cites as having "better" early-game plays . . .
This post should honestly be deleted or moved to the salt section, sorry dude but there is just so much wrong with that idea. It's not like hunter is a fun class to play against, especially with all hunters emote spamming, and you think you don't have enough power? This is a bit of a snowflake post
would like this reply more times if I could... f2p hunter dedicated player here... Animal Companion is great as it is, makes the cut in an insane amount of decks already and hunter has enough options if they don't want the randomness.
I considered posting in Salt but I don't really know how the forums here work. I'm just mad because Hunter never gets cards that are exciting (anymore), and jealous that Demon Hunter gets everything Hunter never had.
I'm pretty salty. No real shame in that. Hindsight, yeah, it's a bad idea. I think Covid may have finally made me snap a bit and say some pretty stupid stuff. I do think the general community hate of Hunter isn't Hunter's fault, and I don't like it because Hunter is (obviously) my favorite deck, but that's not really pertinent to their cards power levels, and how Animal Companion's strength comes from its summons being above the curve.
I mean yeah, DH is basically better at everything that hunter does. DH crushes hunter and almost every other deck that hunter can beat + more. That's a big issue with DH, which is becoming a meme with blizzard.
But I don't think hunter has gotten bad cards, they have got some insane cards this expansion, the think is: They are all so boring. It seems like hunter only got face dmg and summons instead of some unique flavor. But tbh, the hunter cards look scary enough to be playable, even if DH basically got the most broken card in the whole expansion.
So I do think you've got a point somewhere, just not on the animal companion part. Discover an animal companion would probably make it a 4 cost, and I think hunter would rather have a random 3 cost companion than a 4 cost
Yeah, putting aside how annoyed I was about the unoriginal designs (and the Tank) the cards are pretty good in the common-rare range, which is one of Hunter's greatest strengths, being accessible for new/ftp players. The Animal Companion thing was purely fueled by salt and I forgot i even made this thread an hour after i logged off lol.
I'm clearly super wrong about that, but I stand by Hunter's cards being boring. Many of the cards in recent Expansions that Hunter has received are copies of existing spells that Hunter's had before. Flark's Boom-Zooka, Deadly Shot, Secret Plan, and King Krush are all cards I can think of off the top of my head that have been reprinted/reused in some way. And as somebody who's dedicated over 90% of their time in this game to Hunter, seeing Hunter get rehashes and retreads while other classes get cool and new stuff, it feels bad. Obvious salt thread tbh.
Thanks to everybody who took the time to call me an idiot because I probably wouldn't have changed my mind without all that.
yeah I think that downshifting some stats on the Companions and raising the cost to 4 is probably the way to go to make this a choose effect. I'd be super okay with that, I kinda hate how Hunter has 10000 3-drops anyway, shifting power into another part of the curve seems acceptable.

Demon Hunter has:
Ashtongue Battlelord
Illidari Fellblade
Insatiable Felhound
Acrobatics
Druid has:
Lightning Bloom and other ramp which lets it do plenty of ridiculous things between turns 3 and 5
Mage has:
Sorcerer's Apprentice and Mana Cyclone
which combined with the tons of cheap spells mage has lets it do wild things turn 3, 4, or 5
But yeah Hunter being able to select between 3 minions that are basically just *passable* at this point on turn 3 is too strong I'm sure.
please don't bully my son
No. Nope. NEVER!

It is not like the hunter class has no strong cards at turn 3 or something. The cards you listed are good but not problematic. I just don't get it.
Nope. I often play hunter and I think that's a daft idea.

Hunter is tier 1 as always, Druid has the 7th highest win rate, only way for me to compete with Hunter is quest Druid

I think making the card more consistent would be good, but you would need to nerf it. Either make it four mana or nerf the actual companions.
Huffer to 3/2
Misha to 3/4
Poor leokk can stay the same.
Now you can discover which.
Galavant Animation
You realise that Animal Companion is one of the most broken cards in Classic set? we don't need to buff Pepega Face Hunter one bit.
