Unless it's a fatigue game, or against a combo deck that's going to draw just about every card in the deck, Tickatus is a 6-mana 8/8 with blank text.
That said, it's going to cause a lot of bad feelings. We ought to know intellectually that burning a card from a deck is identical to it being on the bottom of the deck, but seeing cards disappear, knowing what they are, will always be FeelsBadMan.
Finally, a card that tells combo decks and Reno Priest to go fuck themselves!
The reaction to Tickatus? This card is absolutely delicious. Great stats to bring it back off of a Gul'dan as well. Emperor Thaurissian will make Corrupting this card EASY. Definitely has a home in Renolock, because it gives that deck a suitable response to Mecha'thun and slow combo decks. Bonus points if Brann is on the board.
This is the same mistake players make when they think Tracking is bad because it discards. The only time Tickatus 's text actually matters is in fatigue games. Same for Gnomeferatu and any other mill card that doesn't affect your hand. Most of the time, corrupted or not, Tickatus is just a 6 mana 8/8 (unless its a control mirror)
Same shit whenever expansion cards are revealed. Have you not learned anything from Glide, Platebreaker, Mojomaster Jihi, and all other crap?
When paladin play a 11/11 for 2 manas or rogue give you 20 damage before turn 6 with steath package or druid can play 40 manas spells in turn 6 cards like Glide is really bad.
If the game become more combo/control then a card like Glide is a top tier, call Glide crap is the same call Harrison/Ooze crap because a weaponless meta.
This exactly. Warlock has been pretty bad for the past few sets so unless they have an actual win condition (and no, it's not playing mill with Tickatus and Felosophy and then playing new Y'shaarj to play the upgraded Tickatuses) and since Tickatus's effect hurts slow decks and the meta is fast, you won't actually have to worry about this card unless you're playing some weird control deck where you guarantee to draw out almost all your deck most games, in which case you probably have bigger problems.
How is removing half the deck from your opponent NOT a solid Win condition ? :D
C'Thun or N'Zoth or the Quest Malygos OTK package can also be added for yet another Win Con if thats not enough...
Regarding being vulnerable against Smorc DH or Face Hunter, thats nothing new really, can't win all matchups tho.
Because to do so it means you have to keep two dead cards in hand until turn 8, play a vanilla 8/8 on turn 8 and a vanilla 9/9 on turn 9. That is easy af to deal with and your opponent will just wreck your face.
There's no functional difference between "STOP" and "PREVENT," though. If you STOP your opponent by killing their minion that's on the board, you're PREVENTING your opponent from attacking with them later. Or using the minion's activated effect. Which is, presumably, why they played the minion in the first place. If you STOP them from attacking your face by using your taunts, you're PREVENTING them from doing what they want ("hitting your face"). If you PREVENT them from drawing 5 cards, you STOP them from ... playing those cards.
Look, I'm with you in that I don't like uninteractive effects. Back in my Magic days, if it was clear that someone was playing a Counterspell deck, I just wouldn't play with them until they picked a new deck. It's not fun. But this guy? He has counterplay. The counterplay boils down to "run a deck that can afford to lose 5 cards." And I don't know about you, but most of my decks operate that way. Sure, it's a bummer if cards get burned, especially cards I like. But in the vast majority of games, you never draw your 25th card at all, let alone your 30th, so they might as well have been burned/Ticketed anyway, for all the value they offered in that game.
And if your game plan revolves around dragging your opponent to fatigue, then I've got news for you: Tickatus is the counterplay to YOUR plan.
sry but that is just plain wrong, exept since i'm stupid I expressed STOP and PRTEVENT like an idiot
so what I meant is: your opponent need to be able to play the card and needs to have a chance to see it work (your taunt example is incorrect, there are silences, transform effects and removal that invalidate taunts AFTER they have been played, aka after they fullfilled their purpose of feeling protective, honestly the real point is that taunts are not absolute "you're not hitting my face" cards while disruption cards and OTK etc cards ARE absolute "fk you" cards )
ALL threats and winconditions should allow the opponent at least a turn to respond to them AFTER they have been played to prevent them from being uninteractive
as for the """"counterplay""""" part... in case you didn't know: counterplay is one thing and unwinnable is another and in this case removing 5 cards from a "fair" fatigue deck (too long to explain, just know no elysyana/gang up/benedictus etc.. BS) IS basically an automatic win in a mirror or control matchup (aka the only ones running this card) as well as it has a random chance to remove the winconditions from any deck with ZERO way to stop it....just because
in short there should be NO cards that force you to play in a way (or a style,as you said this is the """"counter"""" to mine) that you don't enjoy
I mean... milling is pretty random and not normally that good. How often does your deck actually draw down to its last five cards? If you don't get to the bottom of your deck, you just draw the next five cards in your deck instead of the top five and it isn't that big of a deal. The effect doesn't really stop you from playing the game unless it is actually something that can create an entire mill strategy, a few cards off the top of your deck feels kind of bad but in terms of the mechanics of the game doesn't normally mean much.
This mostly provides a way to get the advantage in late game control matchups, or as a counter to combo decks that intend to draw their entire deck and need several specific cards to win (which tend to be the least interactive decks in the game).
and here is the problem: the """advantage""" you are talking about in control matchups is actually a win !00% of the time if you do not draw cards as 1)you're a control deck facing another...you have ALL the tools you need to bring the game to fatigue 2)if you burn any of their wincons they may as well concede, you have WAY more options to win the game now AS WELL AS a free fatigue advantage (and,as I said earlier, in the control matchup it is VERY easy to get to the bottom of the deck)
I always agree with your stance on combo decks, actually I see them as the reason retarded and toxic cards like this one exist (and that makes me hate them even more) but disruption cards ONLY lose part of their toxicity when you face said OTK/mill/infinite decks, everywhere else they are just toxic "screw you,you will not have fun" cards
This is the same mistake players make when they think Tracking is bad because it discards. The only time Tickatus 's text actually matters is in fatigue games. Same for Gnomeferatu and any other mill card that doesn't affect your hand. Most of the time, corrupted or not, Tickatus is just a 6 mana 8/8 (unless its a control mirror)
the same mistake players make assuming aggro (or even midrange) players will give a shit about this cards
no the problem is in the slower decks (the ones i actually enjoy playing) where this is a legit autowin if the warlock doesn't abuse it's hero power to powerdraw (in a control v control game it is VERY easy to stall for fatigue assuming no OTK/miil/infinte BS)
Finally, a card that tells combo decks and Reno Priest to go fuck themselves!
The reaction to Tickatus? This card is absolutely delicious. Great stats to bring it back off of a Gul'dan as well. Emperor Thaurissian will make Corrupting this card EASY. while I agree that RAZANDUIN priest needs to disappear (it's basically an OTK deck disguised as a control deck) but this is not a solution, this is a "fk you, you're not playing your cards" so basically you become what you swore to destroy by playing this (a combo deck whose wincon is burning 1/3 of the opponent's deck with 10 mana making you ezwin fatigue in a way not too different from jade druid albiet with less pressure...and EVERYONE loved it no?)
Every card is designed to beat it's favoured matchup. In the case of Tickatus we have a very cheap minion with great stats that has a negative ability which is absolutely meaningless if used in the right Archetype which is Aggro. Aggro never uses all cards if the matchup is Aggro or Combo. And the Corrupted version really messes with combo, which is it's favoured matchup.
It's ability is only really useless vs. Control because due to one board clear after another you will need more resources to flood the board (which this card destroys) and destroying your opponents cards doesn't really do a lot since your control opponent will go 2 cards for 1 card or even 3 or 4 for 1 card anyways with board clears making the lost 5 cards irrevelant to control.
So I would say it's a really neatly designed card.
It is comparable to Glide (which is also an Aggro card and destroys any handbuffs, which is used in a lot of combo decks)
There's no functional difference between "STOP" and "PREVENT," though. If you STOP your opponent by killing their minion that's on the board, you're PREVENTING your opponent from attacking with them later. Or using the minion's activated effect. Which is, presumably, why they played the minion in the first place. So what we've learned here is that you have a very specific philosophy of how Hearthstone should be played, which is not shared by the developers or the community. Granted, there will certainly be people who agree with you. I agree with parts of it, in fact.
"ALL threats and winconditions should allow the opponent at least a turn to respond to them AFTER they have been played to prevent them from being uninteractive"
This just plain doesn't work. Pyroblast is both a threat and a win condition. Fireball is a very frequent closer. How do you propose that Hearthstone allows you a turn to respond to them AFTER they have been played? Say an opponent plays an Archmage Antonidas, followed by a bunch of cheap spells. You know your opponent's hand is loaded up with Fireballs now. What's your response? Plenty of decks don't have a ton of on-demand armor/healing, and almost no decks have meaningful spell-to-face disruption. This makes Antonidas a win-condition card, and sometimes there just aren't good responses. That's Hearthstone. It's literally been this way since launch.
In some ways, I sympathize with your philosophy. I'm a fan of metas where mid-range decks are very prominent, and you have to slug it out on the board to work your opponent down, primarily through minions/weapons. I think that's when Hearthstone is at its most fun for me. But I'm not the only one playing, and my type of fun is not the only one allowed/represented. The game needs ways to throw a wrench in the other player's plans, and it needs some tools that are reactive (the kind you like) and some that are proactive (cards like Tickatus).
As others have mentioned, it is demoralizing to see your cards go up in smoke. Sometimes it hits a bunch of stuff that you don't mind losing. Sometimes it hits your Antonidas. It sucks, but you're not entitled to win them all. I've been playing Big Warrior lately, and I've had several games where both of my Dimensional Rippers and/or Commencements were in the last 5 cards of my deck. They are very important to how the deck functions, and they're literally useless if you draw them after all your minions are drawn. So Tickatus has already been coming after me! And I still managed to win some of those games.
Edit to add: My Counterspell Deck example from Magic is not the same as a tech-counter. A counterspell here and there is fine; I can work around those. I do it in Hearthstone all the time, with the literal Counterspell card. I was talking about Magic decks that are solely variations of Counterspell. Counter target spell. Counter target creature. Counter counter counter. The entire deck is literally made up of nothing but "Your opponent can't play anything," which is not the same as Tickatus's effect (which is "you can't play these five things this game").
Tl;dr: Tickatus is fine, and other people approach Hearthstone with a different philosophy than you do
There's no functional difference between "STOP" and "PREVENT," though. You’re forgetting that Demonic Studies can search for him and reduce the cost, plus Felosophy can copy it in your hand. It’s not just “you lose 5 cards.” It’s going to be more like losing 15-20 cards very quickly. Welcome to the new Mill.
I once dreamed that Blizzard would bring back the original Illidan card ( 7/7 battlecry both players discard 3 cards and draw 3 cards).
But discard 5 opponent cards without any drawback, and still have a 6 mana 8/8 against aggro.. Oh man, that is lovely.
Also this card is not uniteractive at all. The corrupt keyword forces all sorts of interactions to happen before playing the card, it's not like you just have to draw it and play it immediately and win the game, you know, like most combo decks do.
Seeing combo decks use dirty rat tech in their decks and failing to get my Tickatus will be a sweet revenge.
As long as nasty mill Rogues, quest time portal mage and big priests exists then i am very glad this card was made. One of my all time favorites and I haven't even used it yet.
I love cards like Gnomeferatu, Azari the Devourer and Void Contract.

I'm not forgetting that -- I'm just not very concerned by it. Demonic Studies can hit it, sure, but it's far from guaranteed -- there are MANY Demons in the pool, so getting one off Studies is a lucky break, not something to play around. And if you generate it, you still have to Corrupt it, which, granted, isn't that tough when it only costs 5. So worst case scenario, you're looking at 25 cards in a single game (base Tickatus, two hits off Studies, two Felosophies). That's an incredibly unlikely scenario. The more likely one is 5-10, from the base and a single Felosophy. Which, yeah, it sucks. But it's not exactly a fast play to do all that setup and play all those cards.
"losing 15-20 cards very quickly" seems to me to be an exaggeration.
I have a fairly strong feeling that Tickatus is probably going to end up being too difficult to really make work well, but I'm quite looking forward to trying a few decks to abuse him somehow. Maybe even in Wild with Brann...
Most of the time, it's not going to matter.

This card is good in any match.
Control mirror? 5 cards less to your opponent is game winning most of the time.
Any other match? 6 manas 8/8 is not bad at all.
