I get that not everyone has the means to spend large amounts of money on a game. I TOTALLY understand that.
But, that being said -- if you want it badly enough, you can get your 30 wins a day (100 gold) AND your daily quest (average 50 gold) which is 150 total gold per day. That's 18,000 gold per expansion. So, if you cant be competitive with that, the problem COULD be you.
Also, a quick word about my analogy of tennis, a "restrictive" sport as you say:
Serena Williams is possibly the greatest female player of all time. She grew up without the means of most of her competitors, but through hard work and dedication to her sport, she was able to overcome what many would call impossible odds. If you want it badly enough and are willing to put in the work, you'll find a way.
mate, i may be hard to understand but u just invalidated the 1st half of ur 1st post...that's exactly what i said (and what u ended up saying in ur 1st post aswell): "If you want it badly enough and are willing to put in the work, you'll find a way" whereas u started by saying : " "I don't want to spend money" with "I want to be competitive." These two philosophies simply do not go together." and again, where's the "best shoes", "best rackets", "best coaches" in case of serena?
ur 18.000 gold per expansion is achievable ofc, in theory just as reaching the speed of light...if u're not a dedicated farmer, hired some1 to do the job for u or a robot, then that 18000 gold is as reachable as is the moon... i do wish to play as many decks as i can come next expac thats why i'm puttin in the time and farming that 150g per day, but i only managed to reach 8.5k gold (cuz of my human limits, which may vary from one to another) so ye, i understand ur "You can't be competitive without sacrifice" (even if competitive is not the word i'd chose, id say rather want to have fun by playing varied decks compared to a single one), but i have a problem with ppl who are judging every complaint like just another "i want more free stuff" when the real problem is bli$$ is not valuing the time one (be him/she a f2p or a p2p player) spends in this game...
Pay to win = You need to pay for getting advantages that other players don't have unless they pay. This doesn't happens in Hearthstone. You pay for TIME. Every player can have the same cards. Some of them have to grind more. Just that.
Do the math. You have 4 months per expansion. I'm not going to take in account the 30 wins reward. By doing the daily quests you'll get a minimum of 6k gold per expansion... That's 60 packs. Every week there is a new brawl. That's like 16 packs. AND ALSO lately there have been a lot of quests that give you packs. Let's say that between all the events and quests, you get 10 additional packs. All those three things can get you 86 packs PER EXPANSION. That's more than enough to play some competitive decks if you know how to manage your dust. However, if you want to play EVERY POSSIBLE DECK (memes + all decks from all classes) and you don't have the needed time, it's logic that you have to pay. I really don't understand why people don't see the logic as clear as I do. I guess they just love being trolls and complaining, and they're going to keep doing it FOR EVER.
problem is bli$$ is not valuing the time one (be him/she a f2p or a p2p player) spends in this game...
Why would a business -- any business -- value customers that spend zero money. Would you open up a car wash and then give free car washes to everyone? would you open up a restaurant and give everyone free food? You'd be out of business pretty quickly. That's why businesses have frequent customer rewards because they value the people that spend money.
Also I havent invalidated any part of my argument because I clearly stated that, in the absence of money, time and dedication are just as important but few seem to want to give those either. "Give nothing, get something" doesn't exist in the real world and it certainly doesn't exist in the business world.

No offence to you but as someone who professionally debated in high school and college, I would never go into an argument insulting my opponent. Saying these types of things does not prove an argument at all and again I dont want to be a jerk but it makes your argument look worse. Everyone has the right to agree or disagree with the op's post but he never said that he felt "entitled to someone elses attention". You chose to read this post so if you are going to disagree with the op's opinion then go after the argument not the person.
I don't have an argument here, aside maybe from thinking he's bad at debating. Which is indeed unprofessional, but I highlighted why I think so, and I hopefully also made sufficiently clear that I have not much interest in this debate. If I do end up changing my mind and want to pursue the conversation... yeah, that was a stupid move. But that's a risk I am willing to take. I don't have to look good in every debate I participate in.
Of course he didn't say he's "entitled" to my attention. And he wouldn't be either way. But maybe he takes it as a hint for how dumb it is to use the word "entitled" in such a context (I didn't put it in quotes for no reason). Nobody says or actually claims they are "entitled" to free gaming either, yet the OP claims that some people do, for no elaborated reason other than people complaining about something. But from the observation alone that people complain about the game being too expensive or the pricing structure not being fair (this is my interpretation, the OP of course had no time to go into detail what he even meant), you can't deduct that people actually demand or claim to get "everything" for free, or whatever "free gaming" would amount to.
I don't mind being an idiot here, because the OP is, in my humble opinion, no better than one of the many, many rage posts I've seen on this topic. I am not interested in giving it more consideration than the OP himself. I don't think I'm the better person, or the better speaker here, certainly not from what I'm investing in this. But I don't need to be better either.
I rage and ostracize as well, just as unqualified, but in a different way.
Like really, what do you think should come from this? Where is this supposed to go? People saluting you? A purge? Do we need to get rid of "the plebs"? Do you just want to vent because you are constipated or is there an actual reason or motivation for your rant? Shouldn't you have better things to do?
I'm not trying to offend anyone, or elicit grand change. I was simply stating my opinion on a forum designed for stating opinions. If you took this personally, I have no explanation for that...
If you try not offending anyone, than maybe pick a topic that doesn't accuse an undisclosed group of people of "demanding" something they do not "deserve". Your choice of words is to put people into their place, and unless you are in a position where you are expected to do so (teacher, parent), you do offend people. If you were not aware of that... well, now you are hopefully.
Take a look at me! I'm lecturing you, unrequested, without any competence, and you correctly assume I'm an asshole. And at least to me, you don't come across any better. Maybe slightly, but only because you don't address anyone personally, while I clearly do. Lashing out against someone personally is generally perceived as more hostile than lashing out against a group of people. Strangely enough...
And no, I'm not taking this personally. I don't feel addressed by this either. Maybe as someone who's been arguing in a different direction for years, but I'm not seeing myself accused of something. It just makes me mad how many times I've seen this exact topic with this exact message, with no real intention or consideration behind it, just another person who wants to tell everyone how "entitled" or "greedy" or "spoiled" or whatever they are. Sorry, but if you had a different intention, I couldn't find it.
You can state your opinion as much as you like. As if I could stop you from doing so. I personally think people should only start topics if they actually want to debate something and hear other opinions, and not dictate "right" and "wrong" from the very start, but that's just me. Same reason why I think most (but not all) of the nerf-topics are pointless. I just wonder what you want to accomplish with this, and I think I made my point clear that I detest such postings and topics.
Even IF you picked a different tone, and would open it with "What do you think, do people have a point that everything in the game should be easily accessible? I personally think..." I wouldn't like the topic, but not because of how you introduced it, but for what it is inevitably resulting in. See other replies in this topic to see what I mean.
So, I've been around Hearthstone since the beginning, and one thing that's never changed is that any time something costs money, the floodgates open, and a deluge of complaints descend upon every hearthstone forum in existence. I have never understood the juxtapositioning of "I don't want to spend money" with "I want to be competitive." These two philosophies simply do not go together.
This is also true in other forms of competition. If you play tennis, for example, hard work and practice will get you most of the way there, but players who spend on the best rackets, the best shoes, and the best coaching will have a significant advantage over those who do not. My personal belief is that what SOME of these perennial complainers really mean is "I don't want to spend money, but I DESERVE to be competitive." This way of thinking belongs in the trash can with other phrases of the entitled such as "I don't want to study, but deserve an A+" and "I don't want to work, but deserve to be wealthy."
You are NOT entitled to free gaming, and if that's what you desire, there are plenty of games where you can do just that (including some of the game modes of Hearthstone, by the way) not to mention that there are legitimate players who grind daily and DO NOT spend money, but instead sacrifice their time, in order to get what they need to stay competitive.
So, in conclusion, if you don't want to put in the time OR the money, then what are you even complaining about?
TL/DR: You can't be competitive without sacrifice, so if you aren't sacrificing anything, stop complaining about it being unfair.
Whale spotted. Shouldn't you be playing duels instead of talking to us poor people?
i understand where you're coming from with the "competitive" angle, but a lot of people play casually and just want the game to be more accessible without spending large sums of money
Totally agree with CakeEater!! Hearthstone is a free to play game. You dont have the right to complain about a game that someone offers you for free in the first place!IFor some reason people believe that hearthstone is a p2p or p2w game and that's is the reason that they can't achieve top finishes or win any tours etc. Most of the MT qualifiers have accounts in Europe America and Asia and NOT every account has access to full collection, just the cards for their line-ups.So, If they achieved and you failed is not because of the collection. You can complain about the high rolls and low rolls and you have to accept that it is what it is.
About the people play 5-6 hour/day just to farm gold...Stop being lazy and find a job and ,trust me, job worths more than your ingame gold(you have to live somehow anyway).
My only complains about blizzard are when they try to give us or sell crappy stuff e.x. acting like duels is a "new" mode, giving us expansions with only 4-5 meaningfull cards and the rest are nonesense meme material etc.
P.S. Being "competitive" means you participate in tours and try for top finishes!Being able to get to legend each season or trying to get big winning streaks doesnt count as "competitive" in case some people cant understand it.
I think that main reason why people complain so much about the game lies in Blizzard's approach with Hearthstone toward it's audience. Hearthstone is promoted as a f2p game but in reality, just like any other "free" game out there, it's everything but free. In short, it's a legal scam.
When you start playing the game, you do get some free stuff (to get you hooked), but soon you realize that you won't get far if you don't start spending money. It's what I call a drug dealer approach - first few bags are on the house but after you get addicted, it's time to pay and pay a lot. Time is at least as valuable as money (to me personally it's way more valuable), so don't fool yourself into thinking that if you're spending more time in game grinding resources that you're not paying.
In my opinion, it would be more fair if Hearthstone had same business model as WoW. You buy the game and all expansions and you pay monthly subscription. In return you get everything game has to offer. No p2w, no freeloaders, less powercreep, less complaints, less toxicity = better and more balanced game with healthier playerbase. Of course, that kinda model would probably overall be less profitable for Blizzard so I'm not holding my breath.

Amen. You won't change anyone's mind who already thinks this way but I get it, it's still nice to try and at the very least just vent. EDIT: And going back through the replies I can already see my point being proven lol...
To sum up: Some people are fucking stupid. Some things never change.
God this is sad. The state of this community these days is pathetic. Remember in Rise of Shadows, when, out of the blue, blizz just updated the game, completely unprompted, buffing a bunch of old cards from Boomsday and adding in a FREE legendary for everyone? Not like Sathrovarr either, a free GOOD legendary, that fit into tons of decks. Yeah, I guess we just don't deserve that. We're all just simpering little piggies. We don't deserve to play good games unless we're willing to pay a hundred dollars for them every few months.
I don't think I've ever seen a community whipped this bad. I guess everyone who can't afford such expensive opinions moved onto games they "deserve". What other community pays as much as people pay to play this game "competitively" and complains that people don't want to pay more? They should introduce a premium version of this game where I can pay even more to show those disgusting, sniveling, poor piles of crap how much less they deserve than me. We're in the middle of a pandemic that lost people their jobs, the global economy is in worse shape than ever, and blizz is hunkering down, making even less actual free to play content than they ever have, but no, the real problem is the poor little piggies who can't shell out as much money as you do.
I have plenty of games I can be competitive in. The most I've "sacrificed" for it is 60 dollars. Lots of people can't even afford to "sacrifice" that much. Maybe when you complain about people not wanting to get scammed a hundred dollars a set for a game marketed towards children and designed to exploit people with gambling addictions, think about whether you actually "deserve" what you have, and no, I'm not just talking about your premium sparkly pixels.

to bad u dont have an audience able or wanting to actually understand the point u make, well said tho and thanks for taking the time to write.. i stopped when i saw answers like : "it's logic that you have to pay. I really don't understand why people don't see the logic as clear as I do" :DDD or ppl who says completely different things in the same post just to argue he didnt afterwards like OP did..

While I agree that hearthstone currently isn't p2w, the premise that "if you can grind it out it's not pw2" is potentially flawed imo. There comes a crossover point in terms of time required to get the desired stuff where in essence it's impossible to get stuff as a free player at a meaningful rate. This is particularly true if new stuff is released in an unbalanced state. The paying players get it straight away (and benefit from the balance issue) the free players often only get it once the balance is...balanced.
Plenty games have gotton this balance wrong, and the free to play element was basically a cut down version of the game where the people who payed money had an advantage over those who did not. There are a couple that spring to mind which got it wrong (imo)- Planetside 2 (when it was originally released) and Star Wars Battlefront 2.

I agree that maybe it will be hard to catch the other players if they release content at the middle of the expansion, like they're going to do... But again... The truth is, with the amount of packages you can get just by playing the daily quests... I think it's enough, I used to play like this, only buying a few packs and the rest pure gold. What we have to really see is if the new reward system works AT LEAST like the current one. If the new rewards pays more but needs more time, I can understand f2p getting mad.
I think that main reason why people complain so much about the game lies in Blizzard's approach with Hearthstone toward it's audience. Hearthstone is promoted as a f2p game but in reality, just like any other "free" game out there, it's everything but free. In short, it's a legal scam.

This is absolute nonsense. I started buying expansion deals a few years ago, but have been playing since around the time Blackrock Mountain was released. I was a diligent but not-particularly-skilled player committed to being f2p. I didn't have the money to buy stuff. But I worked. I saved up my gold and dust. I didn't craft every cool legendary just because "I like this character in WoW." (In fact, I've never played WoW. The characters and names in HS mean exactly nothing to me.) I played budget versions of meta decks if I didn't have all the legendaries/ epics required, and I wound up not playing some decks that absolutely required cards I couldn't afford. In short, I acted like a grownup and lived on a budget. In that time, I managed to amass about 14K dust while occasionally crafting a high-priority, powerful card in a deck I really wanted to play.
People can and do succeed as f2p. But, if someone's not willing to a) spend money or time; AND b) live on a budget, then quite frankly they don't deserve to succeed. They are, as OP said, acting like an entitled little punk. (And I DO know what entitled means, and chose that term deliberately.) Why should they have access to the same decks I have, when I've actually spent (quite modest, actually) money and they've spent neither money nor time? How is that fair?

I mean obviously I disagree with you, which is fine, but THIS line was absolute gold.
I think we can all agree that shaman deserves baseline playable cards
Something really made that Dunscot guy mad, huh?
Whale spotted. Shouldn't you be playing duels instead of talking to us poor people?
Dazzle and dominate your foes as the Jewelcrafter!
i understand where you're coming from with the "competitive" angle, but a lot of people play casually and just want the game to be more accessible without spending large sums of money
please don't bully my son
How do you compare a REAL f2p game like League Of Legends to Hearthstone ?
In death, I exact my revenge!
Did someone here make that comparison? If so, I missed it...
Dazzle and dominate your foes as the Jewelcrafter!
to bad u dont have an audience able or wanting to actually understand the point u make, well said tho and thanks for taking the time to write.. i stopped when i saw answers like : "it's logic that you have to pay.
