So, basically, normal duels are worth nothing, not even the 3 wins 10 gold, and the heroic is gona cost gold, for a chance of reward?
Honestly, I've been playing duels and it's fun, but pay to play? No away. It's even more random than arena. You pay, build a deck, than get a crap treasure. GG. It feels like money grabbing bullshit.
Another thing, arena rewards seems bad to me. It feels much more worth to save gold for expansions release. In arena you're getting decks you already own, just doesn't feel worth to me.
I havent tried myself but it is in beta. It is expected to be unbalanced. You start a beta to allow the players test it and then you balance your game accordingly. I think they will eventually balance it in the full release.
First, duels is still in "closed beta". Which means there is still huge space for improvement. You could make argument that they shouldn't release unfinished product. However we all know how Activision Blizzard operates khm khm Warcraft 3 Reforged. We should look at duels from other perspective, with this release there will be bigger player base. Which means that info Team 5 is getting will be more accurate in comparison with their testing team. Which also means that changes and corrections in future will be in much better and precise.
Second, game mode is still in "closed beta", so it understandable that there wouldn't be gold reward for wins. If you look carefully game mode will be released for everyone on same day with Progression system rework. They will probably add there that win will grant you an exp. Is it worth adding lines of code for gold, just for 14 days of gameplay? Nah. Of course idea of exp isn't confirmed, it is my speculation. We should also remember that arena doesn't grant you any gold for wins as well. Which means that it can stay the same way in future or both arena and duels will grant exp for wins.
Third, arena isn't garbage and it has own appeal. Truth to be told i have 10k wins in Hearthstone and nearly 70 win in arena. I am not found of game mode and i don't play it unless when i get free ticket. I play 5 years and arena was dead mode for me during that time, many players play now and Battlegrounds is dead mode for them, i know personally a lot of players who play only arena and nothing else and of cours without mentioning only standard/only wild guys. If you don't like duels, it is fine. You are not the first one to not play certain mode and you won't be the last one. The advantage of many modes is that there is something for everyone.
The thing is the power level of the treasures are really great, if they fit your deck. If you build a deck, and get a good treasure that fits it, it awesome. But even if they balance it more, the real problem is the game economy, its becoming pay to play. I just don't think rewarding decks from the ongoing expansion is any good. You're basically getting dust, and dust is worthless.

Am I missing something?
nope, that sums it up. Show where the mentality blizzard has towards this game.
To be fair, they have to monetize the new game mode, or what's the point in creating it? Sure, they'll make money from the Competitive mode in the same way they make money from Arena. They won't make a cent from Casual, which is why it likely won't offer rewards. Think of Casual (and the beta) as free samples at the grocery store. They want to give you a taste so you'll buy the product. They aren't going to just hand out free bags of pizza rolls at the door and somehow expect to stay in business.
I always find it confusing that people don't understand how companies work. Blizzard had a pile of developers, planners, QA and art folks working on this new mode. They paid those people money. Now they will recupe that cost and eventually make a profit. It's how game developers work.
Everyone always acts like beta means something it's just a phony marketing tool to make you think they have more plans to improve it but they don't.
They still have battlegrounds in "beta" whens its been out for plenty of months already
The game mode is just a trash cash grab
Technically speeking the mode is in early acces and not even in an official beta. And ofcourse beta means something, it tells the user that the gamemode is not considered the finished product and that it's still missing fundemental things. In this case fundamental things would be alternativ starting HP and starting Treasures aswell as the heroic mode. I'm not even talking about all the data they get to balance the game. People always act like Blizzard devs are all incompetend but, there is a huge difference between 30-40 playtesters and a few 100 thousends. Things like roubes of gaudiness might be very strong in the internal playtest, but the gamedesigner/playtesters didn't found it too strong compared to some of the others treasures. Now they have more data and can act accoardingly.
Battlegrounds had/has the same thing going on. In the first few weeks they already nerfed many heroes and tactics like mechs. At this point people were alreay questioning why it's still in beta and then they gave us more information over the opponents tactics by changing the hoverwindow. Then we also got pirates together with a tribe rotation and now elementals. My point is that everything here changed more than just the meta, it changed fundamental parts of the gamemode.
And no, Duels is no Cashgrab. A cashgrab refears to an overpriced product that only exists in an intend to make some easy money, like releasing a new Battleroyale game in 2018. Duels is a gametype only a small minority asked for and that hasn't been etableshed before (like PuBg). The funny thing is that by that definition Battleground is an Cashgrab because it released in the year where Auto battler games became popular, yet it still is an incredibly popular mode.
So even if Duels was a cashgrab it doesn't mean that the mode has to be bad. Or to put in in an more simpel way: cashgrab != bad game.
Oh, and
it's just a phony marketing tool to make you think they have more plans to improve it but they don't.
Duels updates are literally part of the Roadmap for the next 4 months
So, basically, normal duels are worth nothing, not even the 3 wins 10 gold, and the heroic is gona cost gold, for a chance of reward?
With new progression system there will be no more gold for wins, only XP, so free duels will be worth something.
IMHO best time to play duels is right now while people are still experimenting with it - probably the reason why you need to pay to get early access to it. Soon there will be best decks posted all over the place and, just like in ladder, you'll be facing same decks again and again, and it will all come down to who gets more lucky with cards/treasure offerings.
Well, I'm enjoying it. I don't care if I get gold for it. And isn't that something lots of people have been asking for? A mode with no gold so people don't play specific decks to farm gold?
he game mode itself is good and has potential, but there is serious backlash regarding the cost, pay wall around it.
They need to lower the entry fees and add better reward system otherwise most players are blocked to play this, 150 gold per run + the need for wild cards to build meta decks is too much to introduce a new beta mode, they need to attract players create engagement and later add serious monetization

It is literally a free mode with an OPTIONAL fee. Also, everyone makes such a huge deal out of the wild cards and the mode being so expensive, but no one mentions that 1) You only need one of each card to play this mode and 2) you only need 15 cards in your deck, which means that duels is actually very budget friendly.
If Duels had some random preset starting decks, people would be crying why they didn’t let them build their own decks. Also, last time i checked the mode is completely free, with an optional payment that serves like an arena ticket. The bitching never ends, no matter what.
How entitled can you be? They created an EXTRA gamemode, you can still play the game normally without having anything changed. So what if a part costs money? The other part is free and will help people that don't enjoy normal too much, get their quests completed when the tavernbrawl is not fun that week. The deckbuilding has some limitations if you don't have the wild cards, but standard cards are strong enough to compete if it's just 16 card decks at the start. If a game releases a paid DLC, are you going to complain that it wasn't free? A lot of small indie game might do that, but in reality, they need to earn money from it. And again, you don't have to play the paid mode, you can just play the free one. Otherwise you could just play it all day while earning rewards at the end of every run, you really think that's smart? How can they add valuable rewards without it being a risk/reward system?
You complain without any logical basis mate. I personally wish that arena had this pay for rewards/free without rewards system so I could practice arena without spending gold on it. And btw, arena is 100% worth it if you're good enough to get past 5 wins.
Can we stop it with this cliche on this sub??? Jesus Christ, it feels like 90% of posters here are constantly on their period. Every time something new is introduced it is immediately dismissed as "money grabbing". Can we think of something new to say for a change?
Anyone who played a lot of arena knows that in many ways its far less random than constucted, but as someone who hasn't played it much you wouldn't understand.
Arena rewards have seemed more mean lately though, but that is down to declining player numbers I think, making it harder to get to high wins - it might be that the rewards structure for Duels is fine....
One thing I can say for sure though - the lack of 10g for 3 wins in casual Duels (or the main mode, when it laucnches) Is actually greedy Activision BULLSHIT.

Yes, you are missing couple of things.

Silverblood, I actually like the new game mode, what I don't like is the idea of paying gold to try to get decks from the ongoing expansion.

Not sure. I'm getting 6 wins pretty regularly so arena rewards would be a pretty good pay out for me.

Why are you so hell bent on getting rewards?
I’m having a ton of fun playing the casual version, and I don’t see that changing on release.
I play this mode to be entertained, and it is doing that very well!
Duels are beta? Not beta, they are early access. And if we want to be technical, look at the BG - it is still marked as BETA :D
