Duels for me is hands down the best mode in the game in my opinion. i haven't even played it yet but i can pretty confidently say that based on my own experiences playing the dungeon runs from saviors of uldum and rise of shadows. i have played more of those 2 solo content modes then casual/ladder over the last 4 months. as a wild player i have very little incentive to que into the ladder or casual other then completing daily quests or trying out and refining home brews. a deck building experience with huge varieties and outcomes (dont forget there are going to be 3 hero powers and 6 treasures per class) that also rewards long term players who haven;t dusted their collections is finally a nod to the wild players in the game. the first time since wild was separated from standard (aside from a few brawls and featured in arena). New players have been getting a lot of love over the past few years which is wonderful, but now people have an incentive to keep more of the better cards in their collections, and in the long term, it will give players another option to experience the game in a way that might be more up their alley. overall i think this was a wonderful surprise that dare i say, i would prefer over the other 2 modes i was hoping for which was 2v2 and tournament mode. if duels is not your cup of tea, that is fine. personally i think it is wonderful to have another avenue for the creative minds who play the game to get their hands dirty in. it rewards creativity, decision making, and long term commitment to the game. A+ in my book.
I like it, but I kind of wish there was a selection of starter decks instead of the freedom to build your own starter deck. Alot of people would probably dissagree with that statement.

I agree, the most boring part is this "net-decking" starter deck and first 3-4 matches I would say. Where the fun really starts is after 5-6 matches when all players have their crazy decks ready. But you have to win few matches to get there, that's not so exciting. Also I would appreciate to start with less cards, like in dungeon runs - where you start with 8-10 cards? I guess? Then there would be better feeling of progression of your deck (like in solo runs) if you know what I mean. Now every pick is more like "how do I not ruin my tier 1 deck too much" instead of "how do I improve my existing starter deck".
I’m enjoying the new game mode. It feels like people are net decking some form of demon hunter. The experience feels exactly like constructed standard so from a design point it feels stale. The other classes feel different enough.
The mode sucks. The hero powers and treasures on offer are boring, lame, and a couple are just completely broken. Not only that but the sets on offer are so lame. Naxx, Karazhan, and Scholomance, and that's it. There's a lot of changes that need to happen to make this mode work. Also I think the Hall of Fame set should be added to the available sets
Fun, different, deckbuilding skill oriented, and progressive at that.
Wears out real fast though due the difference in heroes, and more so in minion/spell treasures is too polarized, it's like BG one on one with Queen Togwaggle vs Jandice sometimes. If they get to balancing it as much as they do BGs, we should have a great long-term one. If they keep yogg'ing though, it ain't gonna live long.

Not skill oriented at all stfu
Agreed! There’s nothing skill oriented in hearthstone. If you play black jack you learn from experience and you become better with time but luck ultimately defines if you win or lose.
Now add a sophisticated algorithm to that with regards to who you play against and there you have it
i think it does have potential when the hero power and item choices at beginning, and treasure choices Mid game widen, but Ive already found myself not wanting to go back to it after finishing the quests. I also have dusted my older sets which leaves me missing older cards.
All in all, I think this mode is going to like wild for me. I’ll never ever play it, and largely ignore its existence. I hope I’m wrong, but there’s a marked contrast between my immediate enjoyment and excitement over BGs, and this.
Haven't tried it. I'llconsider buying the pre expansion bundle after they reveal the whole set.
It looks 100 times better than BGs. People should see HS for what it is, a dynamic card game meant for casual fun. If you see it under that light then you might enjoy it more.
If you want a TCG with lots of complicated text and strategy behind them (with mostly boring effects and bland graphics) then many other online TCGs are there for you.
People complaining that the new game mode is "unoriginal" and then suggesting stuff like tournament mode....
Duels aren't meant to be balanced. It's fine if you lose to a flashy treasure. You have 2 more lives lefts and then you can always requeue.
The only negative side I see is that it might be really expensive for new players or players who dusted stuff (i'm one of those). But you draft the strongest parts of your deck, so even with a not-so-powerful starting deck you should be fine.
I think it’s pretty fun. There are a few heroes I don’t enjoy, mostly warlock as I find their hero power significantly weaker.
in response to those saying about netdecking, anyone with a couple of brain cells could formulate the same deck regardless of looking what others pick since the pool of cards available is actually very slim.
The game pretty much forces you into a certain direction from the get go with a chosen class. I am actually looking forward to when the whole game is released with more choices because that will be when it truly becomes 2/3 skill 1/3 luck.
It's gonna be tought to balance. What made the dungeon runs fun was building crazy, overpowered decks. You can't really have that anymore if you're playing against a real person.
While I'm personally not a fan, I think others will really enjoy it. For me, it's a disappointment, but the REST of the stuff in this expansion seems top notch.

MMMmmmmmm...Acceptable.

omg, you are my hero
really fun

I like it so far, wayyy better than autochess battlegrounds.

I love everything about it except robes.
Before I get the counterflaming, I realize the game mode is extremely new.
But I don’t know how robes made it through any semblance of testing. Ohhh no I can only play two cards a turn. Here, deal with my turn 4 ysera...

It was really fun for a few runs but it got stale quick because it's so underdeveloped
very strange mode :( i think its from some other game

Is that a murloc? Yawn....conceede!
Good game mode, but even though I have a complete collection I still think it kinda blows that you have to bring your own cards.

How can you say ut boring when you are only getting the bare bones of mode
While I'm personally not a fan, I think others will really enjoy it. For me, it's a disappointment, but the REST of the stuff in this expansion seems top notch.
