My friend and I enjoy dueling using TempoStorm’s Sealed Draft app. We each draft 3 decks from the identical set of 60 packs opened and then duel. Very interesting to see the different direction we each took using the same 300 card pool – and which approach seems to be the strongest.
We’re slowly adding expansions and I’m not familiar with Sealed Drafts in general. So my question is: is there a rule of thumb for how to allocate the 60 packs by expansion?
Bit of a word wall for additional clarity, if needed:
For example, if you’re only using Basic cards, that’s easy: all 60 packs are Basic. But what about when you add Classic (437 cards) to the Basic set (330 cards)? Would you us the same proportion as the total card counts (e.g., Basic is 43% of total card counts) which would lead to Basic being 26 packs and Classic being 34 packs? Note the tool has a hard limit of 60 decks, so that must remain fixed.
How about when you add Naxxramas, which is 54 cards? That would make Naxx only about 7% of the total card count of Basic + Classic. So would you only make 4 of the 60 decks Naxx?
I realize the true answer is “do whatever you want”, but I’m looking for a rule of thumb for how Sealed Drafts usually work. As we add more and more expansions, if we go straight by proportion, seems like we’ll be overweighed towards Basic + Classic. But I’d love to get additional ideas on how to allocate the 60 decks by expansion.
To date we’ve done Basic + Classic + Naxx + Goblins and Gnomes + Blackrock Mountain and allocated the 60 packs equally (so 12 packs per expansion). That seems to work fine, but again, looking for additional ideas.
Thanks.
