Buying packs of ANY expansion in this game is like burning money, buying 40 packs may give ABSOLUTLY nothing, lately Blizard has been scamin people via crappy bundles like Jaina's or mega wild bundle, this is a trend that will likely continue, they already removed the pity timer for legendarys and I found out opening less legendaries than ever and getting even less value that costs more than 1 dolar for 5 virtual cards.
If you haven't invested any money yet I recommend you investing in a more user friendly card game than in any Blizzard game, good luck.
I don't get this... If you enjoy hearthstone, and want to spend money on it, then spend money on it... I spend like $150 a month on coffee, and like $600 a month on comic books and graphic novels... Why? Because I worked my ass off most of my life, and invest the rest of my money quite well to have grown a fairly large entertainment budget, so I can spend my rare free time exactly how I want. The $160 I spend on a hearthstone expansion wouldn't even cover a night out at the bar when I used to be into that crap...
I only play hearthstone about 40 hours a month, and buy approx 2 bundles per expansion. Money: Time spent is a great deal as far as I'm concerned
My girlfriends makeup budget... THAT is ridiculous.
I agree, it's not that bad. I spent a few hundred bucks in the beginning when the game first came out but doing my daily quests I've been FTP ever since. I never DE cards unless I have to have the dust and wait for nerfs. I also always DE my gold cards first. When the expansion hits I'll buy around 70-80 packs and then start saving for the next expansion. Right now I have over 10,000 gold.
No, I can't play every single deck but I'm usually able to make 3-4 good decks each expansion with what I get out of packs and carefully crafting key legendaries.
Start with Scholomance Academy, the latest expansion: strong expansion with many cards currently seeing play in various decks and won't rotate for another 2 years. Once you have at least all the commons from Scholomance Academy it is probably worth getting some packs from Ashes of Outland too. Less powerful than the latest expansion, but still quite strong and once again the cards won't rotate for another 2 years. From the year of the dragon, Descent of Dragons is by far the strongest set if you want to buy some packs from there as well. However, as these rotate in 8 months, it might not be the best idea
More important: build a decent cheap deck that can easily get you to diamond 5 (there are many, mostly the aggro ones such as Stealth Rogue, Face Hunter, perhaps others too depending on which cards you already own), so that you can earn 4 packs + some other goodies each month
I don't wanna start a flame war here....but I don't understand two things...
1. Why such hate for hearthstone
2. Why people who hate it so much are hanging around this forum..
My thoughts exactly. It's not like people are forced to log in and play the game, any game for that matter.
You don't like a game or the turn it has taken? Uninstall it and never mention it again. Take a long break and try other games, I'm pretty sure you'll find something of your taste.
But instead of doing that, people come in here and waste their time just to say how much they hate HS and/or what a shitty game it is. In what may is the biggest HS forum right now. Truly amazing.
Guys do yourselves a favor and grow up. Find a hobbie you truly enjoy -because for the majority of the people in here that's what HS is, and nothing more- and stop consuming energy on pointless statements.

I can't speak for others, but for my part its because of the monkeys running the company. You won't hear much praise on their products because they managed to make atrocious decisions over and over again, and I believe they haven't developed any relevant game for the past 5 or more years...
Their community managers are one of the worst out there, and their custom support is close to non-existent.

Agree here. Breeds unnecessary negativity. If you feel bad about the game, why make others feel bad about playing it?
When I took a break from the game, I just stopped visiting this site entirely.
Also, I think people have not tried other companies out there. Blizz is not great but there are far worse lol. The mobile game I played when I took a break from HS is much more of a money sink. The same gatcha concept (like packs), but their version of legendary cards have lower odds and don't have pity timers. People there have spent thousands and not get the card they want. Here where your card has some value for around 1 to 2 years, there the card you own can be power creeped in 1 to 2 months. They have a good/addicting game (hence why people still play) but damn they really prey on people. Makes HS feel like a budget game lol.

Why not wait for the special pre-order offer for the next expansion for full value? Face hunter in the meantime.
don't spend a penny on this, stay away from this rng shit show. nothing has changed and it's not fun at all
The answer to all your doubts will always be
Buy other games, game is such a bullshit.
