Legendaries should be 2x stronger and common + rare cards should be shit cards nobody wants to use, but they have to until they get better cards.
I could not disagree more with this take. It would take forever for new players to get a playable deck if rares and commons were bad. Plus, if legendaries were the strongest cards, every deck would be playing the same legendaries which would make the meta feel so stale. This is literally why Ragnaros and Sylvanas were hall of famed: they were solid cards that could be slotted into any deck, which made decks and classes feel less unique. Commons and rares should be the backbone of every deck. Legendaries should be interesting and unique, either a strong one-off effect, or a card you build your deck around.
To return to the subject, I started playing Hearthstone after the Old Gods expansion, so four years. In that time, Hearthstone has only gotten better IMO. Generally, metas have gotten more balanced, allowing for a greater variety of decks, and match-ups have become more equal and play out in different ways every time. To me, Hearthstone has never been more enjoyable than it is now.
This. This. This.
It is more balanced. Has far more variety. Every class (aside from Shaman) has at least one competitive deck. The developers are quicker to respond with nerfs and buffs than ever before and the communication is so much better.
What's more, the expansions seem really well planned and thought through to suit a wide range of play styles, maintain a good balance and have elements of narrative and WoW lore.
I don't have any issue with major swing turns as it means players always have a chance to recover rather than waiting to lose like back in the old days.
I saw a video about why League of Legends is dying, and an interesting point was brought up in that video that I also think is applicable to Hearthstone. Wins are no longer exciting or gratifying. When I win a game, it's more of a relief if anything.
Furthermore, a lot of current game companies never tend to their original player base, and I think that is a massive mistep. A lot of game companies constantly implement new features and innovations, which is a decent way to attract new players, sure, but eventually the game becomes a far cry from what initially attracted so many of its original fans/players.
RNG was always huge part of the game but over time, the punishment for RNG failure has been reduced overall, where as the high-roll potential of RNG cards all the way from 1 mana and up has been increased exponentially.
This means you can still have a game where skill is the deciding factor, and manipulation of the RNG is extremely skillful, in fact more skillful than it used to be as there are so many potential outcomes to keep track of - this is becasue in that said game the RNG fell with reasonable bounds.
But you also have far more games where the high-roll of sometimes relatively cheap-zero downside RNG cards will swing the game, regardless of skill. This happened in early hearthstone as well, but was rare, and therfore a good deal more amusing or thrilling.
Powercreep is an obvious problem as well, especially regarding aggro, but I don't need to go into that, many others have.

Blame the shareholders. They buy stock for profits, not because they love the company or its games. Old players spend less than new players, obviously because they have most of the stuff already and play the game better thus earn the ingame currency much faster. It is easy to blame the devs but they have no choice really, it is the vicious cycle.
Totally agree. The whole randomness has become too much. Strong decks containing mostly discover cards are standard and they have a very big impact. With the latest Exp. also Warrior got their share. I mean it would be ok to make 1 class based on discover or random. Priest always been like this but with the newer cards just a bit too much. I guess Blizz just wants to balance everything with randomness so theres no OP deck and for players to include the randomness it must be strong. But its also frustrating to lose a game that you were winning because of one lucky powerplay.
Just some examples:
- Druid mostly winning on a Ysera that creates random Dragons? Very low skill.
- Mage consists purely on discover and random spells. C'mon Prime casting Box of Yog?? Yog got nerfed back in the days because of too much random shenanigans.
- Rogue pure random since the Galakrond decks
The only class that is pretty solid is Hunter which is also mostly used to beat all those random decks by beeing powerful and fast.
Sorry, but now Rogue is not that Random (as Galakron decks are less played), nor are Warrior, Hunter, Deamonhunter, Druid (yes, Ysera is a Random card, but almost the unique one), Warlock and Paladin. That is, RNG comes mainly from Mage and Priest (and the Chaman of the mission).
The mechanism where the game scans for legendaries that you don't have and then matches you against a deck that features those legendaries and then gives the opponent perfect RNG to highlight that you should craft those legendaries really makes the game unfun.
Nice tinfoil hat you got there. Real shiny! I bet you believe in that Qanon BS too.

Now THIS is real information. Not the "I have a feeling so it must be so" BS.
If this is a real thing, that would explain why sometimes I build a weird homebrew deck and get matched with someone who is using a very similar deck, but with better cards. Meanwhile, when I play a refined, high tier ladder deck, I just get matched with all the same shit. My rank hasn't changed, I just selected a different deck... hmm... HHHHHMMMMMMMM....
They're watching me...

I'm blaming my WINS on RNG. You do not get the point, kiddo.

They patented it. https://www.kotaku.com.au/2017/10/activision-patents-matchmaking-that-encourages-players-to-buy-microtransactions/
