If it works as on overwatch, the cases (and in this situation, packs) are already decided on what you will get.
The packs are with a code attached to each at the moment you obtain them.
So you get your stuff at the moment of obtaining the pack. And because the packs are obtained in this period, they will not give you something of the next expansion, even if you wait and hope for dup protection.
In ow, is the same. Even if you holded your cases until the next seasonal event (keep halloween cases from 2019 and open in 2020) you will not get new legendary skins, but duplicates of the old one

Cards are generated on opening. If you had packs from before the no-duplicates rules, they would not have generated duplicates on opening.
I opened it and got Rhonin so it is not only classic cards, i do think they have dupe protection cause i missed a few commons and got them aswell (yes I am a wild player)

Pretty sure thats impossible because its only mage cards from standard that are in the packs.
Saving is useless because blizzard continues with the duplication policy valid only for every 10 packs a different epic, and every 40 packs 1 different legend.
Everything else is common and rare duplicates, so you will have 40 dust saved x5.
Maybe could dose them open 9 packs and then a Mage pack, or 39 packs and then a mage pack, but it's too random.

As the title says, would it be smart to save Mage Packs?
Because I have every rare and common for mage in standard and I am not interested in the epics and legendaries (odds are low anyway).
So if I don't open my Mage Packs until the next expansion or even until the next year, would I get my cards from the future expansions?
Also do Mage packs have duplicate protection as well?
They do have duplicate protection, but I'm fairly certain they will only ever contain cards from the current Standard set.
I'm not sure how that works but it's a good idea. Kinda wish I had held off on opening my pack until it was confirmed one way or the other.
The smartest thing to do would be to not fall for this scam at all.

Take a walk on the wild side...
Which part of it is a scam? The part where you decide for yourself if you want to purchase it, and you receive exactly what you purchase?
If you don't think it's worth the price (which is a completely reasonable feeling), then don't buy it. But it isn't a scam.

Did not think about saving - not a second - opened it to get epic, rare & 3 commons. Good enough.

I call this bullshit
dude you know you can get a mage pack without buying the bundle, right?
I am talking about that 1 pack that you can get for free by completing the book of heroes as mage.
