I personally don't care about it. However, there are people who dislike things like this because it messes with the uniqueness feel. E.g. remember when Blizzard made Tyrande free in their new shop? A lot of people were mad because they obtained her through the previous requirements, and thought it was unfair that people got it for free.
I read a proposal that can satisfy both groups. Give the OG card backs something that makes them distinguishable from the purchased ones. It could be a different frame, a stamp or something else. In that way old players can still be proud of their card backs and newer players can enjoy a card back they like. I also like the thought of Blizzard acknowledging their long-term players.
Real collectors want the original stuff, not copies, so it wouldn't work for all players.
First rule of life: You can't please everyone all the time! ;)
I think you can arrange collectors in all sorts of categories. Some people just want everything, some wants the OG stuff, some wants all the stuff from a certain point in time etc.
But you are right that it is not possible to satisfy everyone. I just like the thought of Blizzard acknowledging their old school players by giving OG stuff a stamp/frame/whatever, so it is possible to distinguish between obtained and bought card backs.
They should monetize every monthly cardback, it's just smart business. Have the cardbacks from 2014 cost 500/2.99, 2015 400/2.50 etc. For those complaining about exclusivity, that ship sailed once they offered the raganaros cardback in a tavern brawl. People need to accept that the only things that will remain exclusive are the pre-order bundle heroes.

As a player since closed Beta, and and owner of 125+ card backs, I 100% agree with this. I work to get every card back that is available to me. It would cheapen my efforts if all ya needed to do is throw gold/money at it; no work required. Make a way to show the old sckool card backs/players different from the store bought card backs, and I'll stand behind that 100%.

Too bad ur opinion doesnt matter. Blizz already brought ragnaros cardback and they and they said it was a test how community reacts. Reacted pretty well it seems except few whales like you since now they offer naxx cardback.
Wanting to have aka sitting in ur collection collecting dust. Blizz is genious they make players spend gold on useless cardbacks rather than useful cards.
They don't make anyone do anything. They make something available, you ultimately decide whether you feel that is worth purchasing or not. Whether it's for money, gold or dust, you are the one who has to decide whether you will take up the offer or not.
Tbh, this isn't something I like. I would probably be classified as a whale ito what I spend on this game but I'm against being able to buy card backs. I started playing just over 5 years ago so the game had been around for a while. I missed a few cards backs simply because I started late and there are some I would like to have but buying them wouldn't feel quite right. Kinda like cheating really. They are 100% cosmetic and make difference to the game. When I face an opponent using one of the early card backs I think it's kinda cool they've been playing for so long. Even though I have no idea who they are, the card back gives me an idea that they've been around for a while. Buying the card backs now makes it completely meaningless or rather more meaningless than it was before!
Kinda off topic but I thought that eventually Blizzard could reprint some cards for Standard like Sylvannas for example. Same card ito mechanics and stats but the reprint would have new art. Once the new art becomes available the original version would no longer be craftable. This would be great for those who've been in the game for years. They oculd play the original or craft the new version. This would be somewhat similar to black borded cards in MtG.
Most people think seasonal cardbacks as a badge of honor lol. You do know most dont care about what season it is but rather how it looks. And locking such cool designed cardbacks from majority of players is just waste of beautiful art. I have season 1 cardback aswell and its so ugly that it really boggles my mind that some people use it to flex with their ingame dick.
Also to the poster above who said preorder heroes wont come back trust me they will at hefty price. Happened in wow with Swift zulian Tiger mount and many more. The skin was free when you preordered as a bonus. You paid for cards. 20€ a pop and blizzar will make more happy players than mad ones.

I usually don't like Blizzard way of approaching things. It feels like sometimes this people have no f..king idea what they are actually doing, as if they were completely clueless about most stuff (especially when dealing with the community). Thanks for your polite and honest answer, much appreciated! :)

500 gold for a cardback is clearly a gold sink, if they buy that they don't buy packs. I can understand that people who played HS in its early life like to have exclusive cardbacks but it's a nice opportunity for newer players to get them.
We'll probably never see promotional or esport related cardbacks for gold tho, I would have loved to buy that Dalaran cardback for Tespa players.
Horrible idea buying any cardback for gold if they put all content for gold and forever will be a good idea but only for limited time and little content no thx

Honest question for those don’t like the option to buy card backs:
Is it because you feel slighted because those who buy it didn’t earn it when it was offered? Is it because it feels like a money grab by Blizzard? _____________________ (Fill in the blank)

No judgement. Genuinely curious. Thanks.
TBH, and I know this thought process is hated, but it's because those that didn't earn them when they were offered (for whatever reason) shouldn't get them. I know that sounds sh!tty, but I have every monthly card back since closed beta, although they didn't start until April 2014 I believe. Plus I have every bundle card back, hero card back, promotional card backs. Hell, I don't mess with crApple products, but I made sure to find a friend with a crApple phone/tablet, just so I could get the card back for that promotion. There were times, like when I spent 5 weeks in the hospital, that I didn't think I'd get the card back, but I logged in and won the games to make sure I never missed one. Had I known that I could've just waited and thrown money at the problem in the future, I would have played A LOT LESS Hearthstone.
That would be top tier level of trolling. Love it! :)
