Most times when mages play it against me it has a neutral outcome, or it screws them over. I've had one or two games in which it won the game for them, but mostly it sucks. I don't know why anyone would include it in their deck.
I feel like Puzzle Box is the epitome of what RNG should be. Big flashy effect in the late game, can do great, can go wrong, but it's also 10 mana so it takes a lot of survival to get to the point where it can even be cast.
Apexis Blast and Power of Creation also seem about right. Random 5 drop is a nice mild effect, not too nutty either way. Discovering one of two 6 drops is also nice. You've got some chance to bail out with charge or taunt, but it's not automatic.
Contrast discover Lackeys, which easily enough can create massive swings by being... well... not all that random.
Box annoys me when they manacheat it on turn 6 with Dragoncaster. Other than that - it is Hearthstone, it has powerful comeback mechanism. Box is one of them.

I am always relieved to see Dragoncaster cheat out a Box instead of Power of Creation or Deep Freeze though...

Absolutely! I see the caster come down and think "massive swing turn - game over". Then he drops the box and 9 times out of 10 it's a giant do nothing turn.

Because it's fun. It causes things to happen in games that you cannot predict and moments that are unpredictable. Not everybody wants to win at all costs all of the time and box has given me some hilarious or very cool moments in games that a majority of cards simply can't give. Since regularly using a quest, discovery mage deck I've had multiple friend requests after games with people complimenting the deck and saying what a cool game we had, win or lose.
A majority of players aren't competitive players. They aren't hitting too 100 and going for tournaments etc and so sometimes they just want to have fun. Hanar and box are two of the most fun cards I've ever used. Sure, box does me over as often as it helps me but I don't play this deck because I'm expecting a steady, consistent strategy. I play it because it's the backend of an expansion following a rotation and so there are the fewest amount of cards available and I'm a bit bored. My games rarely feel similar and I have no idea how they'll go, this keeps it fresh for me at the moment. I have no interest in grinding ladder, I use my janky mage deck to get to around diamond 3 and it never feels a chore.

This sums up the blizzard mentality perfectly. Hearthstone is not a competitive strategy game. It is a slot machine disguised as a strategy game. The point of the game is the same as that of a slot machine. Make lots of flashing lights and pretty colors while seperating a person from their money.

Puzzle box is fine.. it's so much fun even on recieving end... So much fun ❤️
in this year, win and loss are very often determined by playing 1 single card. Some cards are simply too OP.
:P~~~
