Who cares I hit legend this year and im not playing again till next expansion. We know the game has dumb RNG thats just how the game is. The box is 10 mana though although it is often cheated out but a 10 mana spell should at least be able to clear a board.
It's a lot of fun. And saying "most of the time the game is decided" is silly. Rarely you'll get a god tier box, usually it's a board clear with a bit of draw and maybe a minion summon. And rarely it's catastrophic for the mage.

Wow, you seem very smart but make sure you visit psychologist for attitude check.
It seems fun for sure as a player uses it when there is nothing to lose. The worst case? just have bad luck and quit. But for many times, you are able to clear opponent board, while having a very strong board presence.
For opponent point of view? the best case is you feel relief as the opponent did not swing turn too much. The worst case? the game that you put effort is finished. This is not a healthy situation for my opinion. Try watching Silvername vs Bunnyhopper youtube
Puzzle box is fine. Mage lacks heal and cannot pressure early anyways. I've tried lots of Puzzle boxes and usually they do not do much . Yes one off it can be good. That's quite rare.
Puzzle box is fine, and not in any way consistent enough to be remotely oppressive. It may feel bad fat times because those insane outcomes are what sticks in mind.
Let’s remember Silvername was the only grandmaster to play mage in the playoffs
I guess everyone who plays Mage, and to a certain degree Priest ( with thoughtsteal, players who play that card are certainly excited to see what’s in their opponents deck) is fine with the rng factor.
I am not happy with the ability to cheat out a Yogg Box on turn 5... Yogg Box is a good Card since random spells are generally good for the guy playing them. But 10 mana spells should only be playable at 10 mana/turn 10. This was the same problem with Ultimate Investation imo.
The deck I've been using in standard is centered around the quest and discovery/randomly generated spells and minions. It means I get a lot of spells fairly regularly and can have games with 3 or 4 boxes or evocations, for example.
I've played over 300 games in the last 5 or 6 weeks with this deck and have probably popped at least 400 boxes in that time, I feel fairly well accustomed to the box and it's outcomes.
Honestly? There's very little consistency in almost every sense with them. It isn't uncommon for them not to clear a board, they can comfortably end up drawing you through your deck or play 5 board clears on an already empty board.
To me, it's one of the best cards ever printed. I value the fun aspect more than winning, hence the deck I'm using because it has a 42% win rate (mainly thanks to the face hunter and demon hunter matchups being so, so, so bad).
It isn't unusually for it not to swing the game or even really impact it at all. It can also completely ruin your game or give your opponent a big boost. Basically, it does gat it says on the tin and out of the 3 options if swinging the game your way, your opponents way or having little impact, it seems fairly well split between all 3 outcomes.
I'd be really interested to see a breakdown of % chance for each thing, such as board clear, single target spells, recovery etc and able to see what chances each action has. Based on my experience it is pretty balanced and can make for some very funny moments which you just can't get without RNG. I'll sometimes just chuck a box out for the fun of it. Even on am empty board and both at 30hp. I'll absolutely miss it when it rotates out, that will be a sad day.
honestly i hate it myself being a mage player, it lost me more games than wins but its still a fun card when you have no hope of winning and you play it and rng blesses you.
I barely lost to mages who didn't puzzle box, same as I barely lost to rogue without highrolling 0 costs out of 6+s, but unlike priest which doesn't mana cheat (excluding gala's dragon). Turned to dragon hunter, problem (mostly) solved, but w/r climbed. RNG is maybe the game's pet, rogue for sure, but it's beatable. Mana cheating to zero is the real problem, not the RNG by itself.
My opinion is to make all the 0s cost 1 and remove legs from discovers (other than rogue's specific spell and warlock's quest, maybe a few more, I'm not sure) and, at least to an extent, the game would be better. Problem is probably blizz 'afraid' of kids crying 'it's a nerf, we want dust', but sometimes, just sometimes, the game needs tuning that i don't think should count as a nerf, but just lowering the powercreep. P.S. on this, maybe decrease 3 mana like Skull.
Puzzle box is horrid design. Yogg was nerfed specifically because how many people found it unfun rather than because of the power level (similarly to the original rogue quest) but now you can play basically 2 yoggs that A) can be cheated out on turn 5, B) require no setup at all to make them work unlike yogg and C) are lame as hell compared to an Old God.
I think they're bs but the rng you get from mages is still minuscule compared to the load of shite coming from galakrond priest, the only class that has no win condition whatsoever in its deck. Somehow one of the easiest combo to play around, inner fire, was too toxic but this nonsense priest stealing win conditions from the opponent is intelligent design.
Personally I hate the card and I think it's far too random but if it was actually played for 10 mana it might be OK. The main problem is that it is nearly always played for free (or cast from Solarian Prime).
I think it also feels worse becase there are so many other random and discover effects in mage that you might as well not bother trying to play around anything they might have in their hand.
There is nothing more soul destroying that having your own board destroyed and having a new board created for your opponent all for 1 card (usually with some card draw in there for good measure). It happens more often than not in my experienec (and I have rarely seen a genuinely bad outcome for the mage outside of meme twitch clips).
No doubt someone will tell me this is all confirmation bias though and the card is fine and I should just post on the salt thread...
Nope. I never liked Yogg when The Old Gods was around, one of the dumbest cards ever created. There is nothing to like about puzzlebox either, unless you play mage and also (crucially) like random shit - a 75% likely board clear/25% likely bail-out if you are definitely going to loose for 10mana is a good option. But its dumb as fuck....
Well with box you can win against match-ups that you are unlikely to win in the first place. On one side you can play like shit the whole game and win with box. On the other side you can play your box at the right time or get rewarded when you play risky with it. Either way that's bad for the game because you reward rng instead of skill.
But rng will always be part of this game and mage is atm at 49,4% winrate total and box at ~55%. Next time people complain about insane rng topdeck wait...........
What you are missing is box mostly a last resort for mage sometimes you will get a good outcome and sometimes you will basically kill your self by milking and stuff. The card is fine stop bitching about 10 maybe board clear lol.
I pretty much quit hearthstone when yogg ruined all midrange and control games the first time around. Blizzard finally came to their senses and nerfed the super coin flipping machine. But blizzard believes that the engine controlling game results is better for player retention than allowing player skill to play a bigger factor. So long story short, the puzzle box, the other RNG tools, the return of old yogg all indicate that blizzard is actively pursuing idiots as their audience because they are more likely to be impressed by the pretty colors and spend money.
Entire RNG spell mage is disgrace for Hearthstone and it represents game at it's worst. Since HS doesn't have many ways to interact with opponent's spells or battlecry effects, whole matchup feels uninteractive, frustrating and boring (inability to use any of your minions for like 7-8 turns straight isn't uncommon thing due to constant stream of stales and removals). Box is just nail in the coffin for your sanity.
Also, Yogg-Saron, Hope's End actually felt much more random and you never wanted to play it, when you were ahead (because it could backfire). Box on the other hand, seems to heavily favor it's user, so it can be played just for tempo, especially if you can cheat it out for less mana.

Yogg was nerfed because during that time, he was the only card that had the power to swing the game in one turn. After that, Blizzard added more and more card generation and discover effects that offer the same swingy experience Yogg offered, so there was no need for Yogg to remain nerfed.

From mage perspective, it seems fun as you just wait turn five or six and cast the box. Then most of the time the game is decided.
In my view, after facing puzzle box in three games consecutively, feel like I am wasting my energy and wanna quit Hearthstone. What do you guy think?
