Q: If I missed one season, will I lose my star bonuses when I return?
A: No, you won’t.
Q: Will the value of my previous season’s MMR be exactly same as the new season?
A: Technically no, although the change will be very small and the “value order” will be kept (Player A whose MMR is larger than player B in the last season will still be ordered as such). Mathematically, a re-normalization process takes place at the start of each season to keep the distribution in a nice bell-shaped curve.
Quotes from the QA before the first season of it. Another blatant lie.
I made 4 games in standard last season, 2 in WIld for 5 wins.
In Wild I still have my 8 Bonus stars, Diamond 10. It's fine, everything ok. In Standard I dropped from 10 (Legend) to 6 Bonus stars (Plat 10).
So in the end you will lose bonus stars pretty fast if you don't play. Vice versa it means I will play even less because I won't play much to get to higher ranks because there are simply better games out there to waste my time on.
The worst thing about that is another false information from Blizzard, because I could have played more last season easily, now I am heavily punished. Of course I play against worse players now and might get more win streaks, but that's not for sure in this game if it wants you to lose.
I was lazy this season and didnt get to the end of my stars (9) in Wild. For the new season got 10 stars after finishing at low Plat/maybe even high Gold.
No clue - only theories I have are that (1) maybe it's somehow lagged and using last month's data or (2) the low legend players this month on average tanked their MMR so that my MMR looks pretty decent after essentially not playing.
So you would play 7 games last month instead of 6 games if only you knew about this?
The irony is not nessecary. WIth some win streaks it is extremely fast to climb with the legend MMR. I would have had no problem to climb some more at least. But Blizzard stated it's a non punishing system if you don't play a season and that's just false information.
its very shitty ranking... it force you to play alot else you lose bonus star and have to win 300 games to get from bronze 10 to legened with 0 bonus star
A thought on this - a player who plays a lot and previously ground out to high ranks on a middling WR may have a pretty shoddy MMR but will have been given a high number of stars based on previous ranking. If that player skips a month, he'll then be placed only on his MMR, so might drop a lot of stars.
i finished in May season at Diamond 4, and somehow i got 10x stars now, i should have had 9x stars since 10x stars only for legend no? in april i finished legend tho
Why should your rank bonus not decay over time. What's the point then in continuing to play each season if you're guaranteed high bonuses each month for hitting high diamond/ legend once.

Because read the quotes from blizzard. It's alright that it decays, yet they said something again that is simply not true.
Guys stars are probably calculated based on mmr brackets, like if your top ~10% of mmr you get 11 stars and so on. Each season mmr is recalculated so you might lose stars or might not lose stars (can even gain stars, probably). I lost one star on NA server where I didn't play ranked entire last month. It's not that hard to understand -_-
I hit Legend in Standard last month (10x star bonus) and I only got Bronze 7 in Standard this month and I started this season with a 9x star bonus in Standard.
Granted, I did hit Rank 5 in wild (which I had also hit last season), so I'm not sure if that came into play.

Bonus stars aren't based on rank. I logged in and got 7 stars at Plat 8.
You probably fucked up your MMR and that's why you got less stars. You did not miss a season, you just played less, not the same thing

I finished first season on R2 Wild and had 10 stars. Previous season finished on R1 and now I have 9 stars. I don’t understand this system...
Put your signature here.
Or not...
exactly this i have the same
Played 5 games to unlock the chest, each vs higher rank players.
Resulting in 100% WR and High MMR.
Ended Gold 5 + 8 Stars Bonus.

I stopped playing wild as soon as I arrived at Diamond 5 and got 11 stars for wild. Played Standard till 8k legend, got 10 stars.
I really think this system should be more clear and easier to understand.

Uhh? Blizzard says:
And the OP says:
So to me, that doesn't sound like "missed one season". So he played and did not miss the season. He just did not play many games. So where's the lie?

Thanks, saved me the trouble of writing this
I was in top 500 legend in wild and i got 11 stars.
If you are lower legend rank or rank between legend and diamond 5, you will get 10 stars.
For every 5 ranks lower, you will gain 1 less star.
