They can't even figure out Auto-Squelch. You think they can do this?

Problem isn't that they can't figure this out - it's that they've outright stated (and not too long ago) that they think it's a bad idea. Like they are somehow ignorant of the fact that emoting is heavily used for BM.
It's a fine idea in theory to be able to greet your opponent when the game begins, offer a sincere "Wow" at crazy RNG or even a "well played" at the end of a good match. But IMO, it's not remotely worth the "thanks" and "oops" when you lose to children (adult-sized ones or not). It doesn't ruin my day, it doesn't make me rage quit... but it does worsen my game experience often enough.
Don't need. Had enough death threats already. Only when I've had a hilarious twist or something funny in a game, will I accept a friend request.
Otherwise I don't wanna have to report these salty fucks any more.
If it had a system where both parties, when they consent, the chat can start: perfect. Otherwise: please no.
Wouldn't work, because you either allow everyone or no one, since you pretty much don't know beforehand if the opponent would insult you. It would work only if you could switch it off any time, not only preemptively.
Anyone complaining about toxicity would have never survived MW2 Xbox lobbies. Those were better days.
On another note, having a chat actually raises the skill floor required to effectively play the game (also raising the skill ceiling, naturally). Can't keep a cool head and lose a game? The other player's comments towards you threw you off. Git gud, scrub.
'Never survived the MW2 lobbies'
There's nothing noteworthy about tolerating a lot of sweaty virgins trying to out swear each other because their parents have gone out.
One of the appealing things about hearthstone is the lack of interaction with insufferable man children, who use the internet as a way of venting their frustration and abusing people.
God, you couldn't seethe more. And you call other people man-children?
Either way, it's hardly a rebuttal to my point. A chat would obviously raise the skill floor. The reactions in this thread just further prove that.

If they are going to continue to be content with the BMing, they should bring back "Sorry" I miss that one.
This reminds me of why arcades died out....snivelling little geeks were too frightened to be toxic jerks when the target of any abuse might deck them. Now when geeks can be toxic from hiding, they do so eagerly....racist, sexist, toxic, pathetic man-baby incel trash are exactly who we knew them to be.
I love the fantasy that chat would engender friendly communication and comradery between players.
There is a reason why the exact same type of people are always mass shooters

Who needs a chat in this game. That would be completely toxic.
No RL friends to talk to?

You say this like it is a bad thing. People that want to listen to people BM can leave it on. (You know that is what it is used for)
Everyone else can auto-squelch.

Pleaadd then I can tell pos that he can’t do simple math and kill me faster.
