Card packs and loot boxes which be bought for real money are actually regulated afaik. They have to inform well about the rng of what you get.
I can't believe how butthurt and paranoid some players are about in-game RNG. Our brains are not well put together to understand true randomness, but we are great at assuming patterns where there are none or the dataset is too small.

Yeh, but randomness in programmed stuff is NOT random. And you guys don't understand it. The randomness in programmed stuff is man made. Best example are gaming machines. They are completely regulated yet the chances are there that everyone is able to win and who wins is completely random. Nothing to do with randomness. You know, if one single bit is not completely functional on a server machine everything is changed completely already.
Yet, in germany for example, they have to give out 80% of the income yet they can only give prices of maximum 1000€ per hour.
So in the end it's completely random by not being random at all. Sounds wierd, right?
Who says Blizz$Activision is not using such an algorithm? They make no secret of their main goal to get a 50% winrate in literally every game mode. And to repeat again and again and again and again...THEY OWN A PATENT FOR THIS.
Is it through matchmaking like they use in CoD (where they match players with less ingame buys with players that are better and have shiny skins etc!) or by controlling random effects.
If we don't get all the numbers from all games we can't say anything in particular. But alone daily Highlights on Youtube have multiple low chance clips each and every day that are against all odds to happen that often. Yes, it's highlights, but again, 0,000003% chances every here and there....no way in a true randomness. And I repeat myself, my games alone have so much game deciding RNG stuff with such a low percentage of possibility happening I simply won't stop believing that it is controlled RNG. This combined with my knowledge from being a game dev 5 years ago until I changed my job I won't trust Blizzard anymore. It is so easy to keep something random with a slight influence of the dev that keeps it "random" yet controlled.
Still i won't exclude that the coding is just very bad.
This post is funny! Most of the time game designers fail to understand possible combo cards and the meta in general. How is it even possible those guys to be even smart enough to understand match-making?

Good elaboration of steered randomness perfectly looking random. Randomness with a predetermined outcome. For example, if the game overall must be fast paced, proactive and tempo, print cards that do so with the precondition that RNG| and MMR regulates that outcome. Rigging can therefore never be proved by statistics as everything looks pretty 'random.' Rigging is a preferred outcome choice.

I certainly wouldn't rule out bad coding either. The only aspect of hearthstone that I have found suspicious over the years is from repeated effects. Stuff like knife thrower triggering 7 times from an unleash and all hitting the same target. Or more recently, a single puzzle box casting the same spell multiple times(3 bogbeam casts in a row!). I don't assume rigged game play as a result, at worst I suspect a possible bug.
I'm sure I've said it in one of these threads already, but people really need to take a step back and think before assuming they were hit with a RNG outcome that shouldn't be possible. Yeah you lost and the string of RNG effects that led to it might be really low, but there were probably a hundred different combination of possible RNG outcomes that would have resulted in a loss as well.
I also love how most of the bad beats people talk about have them easily crushing their opponents(all skill of course), only then to be undone by the most absurd RNG the game has ever seen. Is the entire game rigged then? Does the rigging algorithm only kick in when the already rigged MM failed to produce the desired outcome? If it's all rigged, why would the suspicious RNG ever be needed in the first place when their advanced algorithms could simply control the draws for perfect 50% winrate manipulation.
There is no consensus on what's rigged and what isn't. Someone earlier said it's clearly rigged cause he nearly always faces his worst matchup first game of the day and also the game after he hits the concede button. Is this really what he's using to base his accusation on??? WOW, pretty strong evidence I'll admit. I'm probably the anomaly here having not experienced this myself, but I'm sure EVERYONE else does.
If the game is rigged, I would obviously want to know and I'm sure Blizzard has the ability to do so. All I ever see put in these threads are complaints about losses though. Always bad matchups, bad draws, bad rng caused me to lose. New flash people, you aren't perfect and you certainly aren't playing perfect either. If you think Blizzard is deliberately keeping you at your current rank, that's probably as far as your current skill will take you.

What is needed is a SEC for games with authority to force Blizzard to open up Shadyrisen. The only way to rule out rigging. There are still no rules and regulations for fairness in the game industry. Card design in HS a quintessential example. When the fox promises the farmer he will look after his stock; when the butcher says his meat is ok without any outside independent conformation, you know the opposite holds true.
Therefore amazed that so may fellow travellers without any proof insist on non-rigging and Blizzard the likes of Jezus Himself. Maybe thou will realize how hubristic thou are.
Are you really amazed? Theres no evidence to the claim its rigged, so why bother? You don't need equal evidence in order to feel that one thing is true over another. It would be exhausting to harbour this level of suspicion. Not believing that the game is rigged to keep a chosen ÷ of players in gold and platinum ranks isn't an active position, it is to be expected.
Some peole have made a claim that the game is rigged and as yet, have failed miserably in meeting their burden of proof to show that this is the case.
Its similar in a way to an atheist compared to a theist. An atheist simply doesn't feel the evidence is there to believe in am all powerful being, it isnt am active belief. The theist however is making a claim, that a god or gods exist and therefore it is on them to demonstrate why this is a rational belief to have. I am effectively an atheist in my position regarding this. If there is evidence, I'll look at it and if it proved rigging was done, I would absolutely change my stance. I very much feel however that it doesn't matter what is said or shown to somebody who believes the game is rigged, they won't change their belief. They are being irrational.

There is no evidence that there are aliens out there. Still we are looking for them (SETI). Funny isn't it?
Even so SETI has the power to investigate. Blizzard doesn't even allow investigation. Tell me then how should I execute 'my burden of proof' if those who has something to hide don't open up? Reason I call for a SEC of the game industry who has the authority to command.
Yet i went on a win streak from Diamond 10 to Diamond 5 using only Secret Galakrond Rogue, which is a deck that probably has the most RNG besides Mage. Being unlucky doesnt equate to rigged.
Ok, so I'm sorry for the double post, but I actually think it's worth spending a moment on the wg15 post, and it's not to make him feel bad in particular. A lot of folks post and think like this.
So he describes a story where a guy plays a Fist of Ra-den and burns 3 of the charges on 1 mana spells. He comments that it must be a one-in-a-million chance that the opponent got 3 Reliquary of Souls off of these 1 mana charges. Furthermore, he remarks that his opponent misplayed by using the one-mana charges, because it was a control matchup, and thus somehow this was a particularly bad play.
Now, as some have pointed out, instead of it being a 0.0000003% chance that the Ra-den player got 3 Reliquaries, it was actually a 100.0% chance, because Ra-den only generates legendary creatures and Reliquary is the only 1 mana legendary in standard right now. So right away, we are in one of these situations I mentioned earlier in the thread where a person has decided that the game's RNG is rigged against him with no information to back this up, and in this particular case, an actual PROVABLE situation where RNG had nothing to do with it. But nevertheless, wg15 is totally convinced that something has prevented the proper game function from working as intended.
However, the threads insisting that Blizzard manipulates RNG are only my second favorite type of thread. My favorite type goes like, "I played perfectly, but RNG fucked me and this is why I can't win!" Now in this post, wg15 wasn't commenting on his own play, but on the faultiness of his opponent's play. In reality, however, not only is it not a misplay to use Ra-den charges on 1 mana spells, but the ability to generate Reliquary of Souls is the SOLE ("soul", get it?) reason that Ra-den is included in that deck. So you have a player certain his opponent is misplaying when in reality, that player is missing the entire intention of his opponent's deck and failing to realize what a devastating play generating 3 Reliquaries can be in a control v control match. 3 extra cards for fatigue and each one being an untargetable, life-stealing, taunting, big creature. That sounds like a pretty good anti-control measure to me.
So everyone take note when you see stuff like this. I'm sure all of us picked up on this particular set of errors in this post, but I wonder how many of us (definitely including me) have made such a blatant, 100% objectively wrong judgment in the past. Take serious notice when you see stuff like this, because these sorts of faulty assumptions run rampant all over this forum.
EDIT: @MProdigy
I followed most of that, but why would we randomly assign "scrub", "pro", etc. and not actually assign criteria to each? I didn't get that part.
Sometimes I’m my head the idea makes sense but I write it down wrong.
I meant if we can somehow know if the player is a pro, streamer, new player, veteran, etc, we could see if the metrics are consistent across all player types. A lot of people here claim that streamers have better luck or new players get screwed and so forth. It’s really just a mother variable to capture and control for. I’d love to see how they use numbers to decide nerfs because that would be more interesting to me. I wonder if it’s advanced or basic. Just because it’s a big company doesn’t automatically mean they have a seasoned statistician running the numbers.
Ah, ok. Yeah, you could easily get some interesting results that way.
I got a chance to do some market research for a Fortune 100 company early in my career, and it was wonderful actually having the resources and time to actually study this stuff at the level of scrutiny it requires. I probably won't get a chance to do that again, but it was really instructive while it lasted.
I am reeling from the fact that I only managed to climb to Platinum this month. In the entire history of the game of Hearthstone, I've only finished outside of Legend 4 months, including this one. Feels . . . dirty. I gotta get on that shit again this month. #1 Legend or bust.

Enjoying Americans winning in the Olympics is forbidden because it is political. A 14 plus page discussion of state-sponsored lawsuits against a multi-national corporation based on harassment, discrimination, and wrongful death allegations is apparently not political enough to raise an issue.

That makes even less sense than the conspiracy theory does.
How do you think the game would know that a player is a streamer and magically give them better luck?
And in what world would it make sense to give new players WORSE luck? It would give them better luck, because that would make them more likely to keep playing.
You guys sound like my grandparents talking about how they don't trust computers and touching them is gonna give them cancer or whatever. It has to be literally anything but you causing you to lose because you can't take responsibility.
Oh boy this has happened to me SO MANY times I always though it just me and my bad luck. Good (or bad?) thing I'm not the only one.
It's definitely rigged. It's not normal that when I'm just about to reach Rank 1 or Legend, boom! counter deck. Which is, most of the time, a humilliating defeat against Priest.
Another one thing that ALWAYS happens to me (not sure about you) is when you need a topdeck that never comes. There are 15 cards left (half the deck) and every single removal card is within that lower half, which means a defeat at turn 6-7. Once I search for an opponent again... there they are: 2 or 3 removals as starting hand.
Does this happen often to you? the card you needed the most is in the starting hand the next match, mockering at you? I bet I'm not the only one who have experienced this.

Haha, perfect example of a Tinfoil heads commentary.
They always use the same words, like SO many times to me... i always thought.... it’s definitiv fishy ( ofc with no date to back it up) ... things always happen to me( wich would actually be a nice thing to abuse)...I bet I’m not the only one ( to get more tinfoils into agreement with any sort of claims, since a critical mass of people must be correct) ....
And all this just to avoid stuff like, l believe, or I’ve got a feeling, etc. wich is basically the quintessential statement from what they actually wrote.
As SinAscendant said, if anything Blizzard would have interest in making better rng for new,or inexperienced players. But i never heard of a GM level player that his rng is always rigged against him/her...
They have a massive esports following... If they were discovered to be manipulating winrates, They'd be ripped a new one... I can't imagine any scenario where rigging outcomes for random players would be beneficial enough to risk the backlash of being caught rigging the software. It's pretty silly.
I hope most of the people who post about the game being rigged are just coming down off a rage quit, and can think more reasonably once they've cooled down... Otherwise they're likely also against vaccines, and hide from airplanes.
Agree with above post. Additionally, why would a company go through all the troubles to do the required analyses every time. It requires a good understanding of the meta, since that constantly shifts. That would ask a lot of Blizzard, without a clear benefit.
Occams razor is indeed applicable here; the easiest solution is that Blizz wouldnt go through the trouble.

How lovely this gullibility. Let me apply Occams Razor to SETI.
Dear SETI the easiest solution is that there are no aliens. Stop searching the skies. Waste of taxpayers money. I mean if there were, why wouldn't they just reveal themselves? I mean why the fuss keeping hidden and all those 'sightings' that even the Pentagon marvels about? Well probably the aliens have no 'clear benifit' to reveal themselves and fear the 'backlash of being caught' existing.
In HS it's the same. Those 'sightings' that the game is rigged. Can't be. But we still got tinfoil SETI to search for aliens.

You don't get it. Randomness per definition is meant to be random, and you don't achieve randomness by avoiding streaks. It's the opposite. Because weird things like 6 knife jugglers hitting the same target happen, we KNOW that it is functionally random. That's how randomness works - sometimes it does really weird things. You notice those things because you misunderstand how randomness works, it's just basic confirmation bias reinforcing your misconceptions ergo leading you to have suspicions. The opposite is the case in fact, what you cite as suspicious are proof that the randomness is working because you are working on such a small data set that probabilities are irrelevant and the data is useless. Statistics are exclusively applicable when looking at a macro-scale set amount of data points. What happens to individuals in a random system is random, which includes weird things like streaks. Probability only becomes relevant when you take thousands of those player's experiences and start doing the work then.
Government priorities w.r.t to regulation:
a) Regulate financial institutions whose irresponsible actions once led to a global financial crisis with far-reaching consequences
b) Regulate gaming companies whose actions may have led to my opponent discovering DQ Alextrasza off a Draconic Lackey and causing me to lose a game I should have won
Sounds about right...
This made me lol!

Rather turn it around. The appearance of randomness doesn't exclude rigging. Looking beyond is key. Using randomness to rigg.

Good joke.
Always expect the unexpectable!
The truth is out there.

Yet i went on a win streak from Diamond 10 to Diamond 5 using only Secret Galakrond Rogue, which is a deck that probably has the most RNG besides Mage. Being unlucky doesnt equate to rigged.
Helpful Clarification on Forbidden Topics for Hearthstone Forums:

Yes it happen twice the last month against me. When i am Rank 1 or 2 Platinium, suddenly the "hazard" is always against me. :(
And the card i wanted the most is in my starting hand the next match. So I confirm !
