Call it a salt rant if you will, RNG in this game right now is too much. the amount of "discover this, add a random that" from so many cards has turned this game into a joke. You can outplay your opponent for 8 rounds straight but one lucky dragonqueen or discover a spell and they have you losing within 1-3 turns.
Something has to change to make the game more like it used to be. Reliable knowledge and good plays making your wins worthwhile. The level of game swinging RNG right now spits in the face of anyone who has any measure of skill at this game. Whats even the point trying to play well when your opponent can roll the dice and laugh in your face for it.
An arguement can be made that everyone has the option to play with these RNG decks, and that everyone is thus on an even playing field and that handling the randomness of these Discover effects is skill too and that on the whole the better players will still win more than the bad players, even if they lose here and there because their opponent drew the nuts.
Losing happens, against good and bad decks, and that's okay, cause you win games too that you had no business winning or that you won cause your opponent's key cards were all at the bottom of his deck.

An argument could then be made that card games aren't supposed to be total games of chance, and if you want to play those, poker exists.
The game is very simple and repetitive, RNG is the only thing that keep the games a little bit different.
In any case, RNG is one of the things that keeps the game away to be a skill based game, so it is also annoying.
I my opinion Blizzard should consider to change the game in deep. People are leaving Hearthstone, because the game was fun, now is too repetitive, they cannot think to keep the game alive only adding cards and pack fillers.

Great argument based on nothing.
Xskarma, nice effort but in this community there is no such thing as "games that you had no business of winning". You have the absolute right to win every game but your opponent keeps stealing it from you via the power of RNG manipulation!!!

No, there couldn't. Any game with a deck inherently has RNG. If you don't want that, go play chess.
I get the sense that it's only RNG when someone loses, but of course, all of their wins are based on purely amazing gameplay and deckbuilding, not a randomly generated number in sight.
If anything is actually ruining this game, it's all of these prefab decks, all of these instant synergies created by quests, Galakrond, lackeys - the decks are almost auto-build and autopilot, efficient, high win-rate, with almost no need to innovate or make changes. Sure, a few better players might come up with a clever counter deck or two, but they can simply be written off as the one or two losses you take on the way. Honestly, those RNG "pull your ass out of the fire" moments are really the only things that give the game any excitement, and I find these over-the-top complaint threads on the topic comforting.
Sorry guys, sometimes that DH that you spent no time building will lose. Life is hard.
You should simply never take HS seriously. Just play the game for fun. Its the only way to enjoy it. I laugh my ass off when i see that there is "competitive" scene in HS. This game is the card game version of Russian roulette, nothing more or less than that, its absurd to think that this game has any competitive side.
It definitely took way more skill to play in the past but it was also more boring Unfortunately you cant have both.
Just like a friend of mine once said, which is the best description of HS i have heard, HS is simply a game you are supposed to play while you are taking a crap, to kill time. You should not expect more from this game.
Any game involving cards has some RNG involved in it and no one will contest that. HS, compared the early days, has now too much RNG. It is acceptable when it comes to card draw and discover mechanics. But when it comes to direct action on the board the player should given a certain control. Here is an example of what I am talking about: Let's take Rotnest Drake. Battlecry: If you are holding a dragon destroy a random enemy minion. On top of the ability to destroy a random enemy minion there is a condition. If don't hold a dragon the card is still playable on turn 5 but it loses most of it value. Now, I am not saying it's the best option but just for the sake of proving my point, here is what the Battlecry could be: "Destroy a random enemy minion. If you are holding a dragon, deal 5 damage" it demonstrates that there can be RNG and a certain degree of control that the player can have. Winning because of RNG or your skill to manage RNG is satsifying but winning because of the moves you make and the decisions you make is much more rewarding.

Actually its the other way around. Its cards like Rotnest Drake that is what should be "acceptable RNG" Cause at least this card leaves you some room for countering it. You can play as many tokens as possible when you expect it and decrease the chance it will kill your big minion. Its not different than Ragnaros, i feel like Ragnaros was the type of RNG that was healthy for the game.
Discover mechanic is everything that is wrong with HS right now. It has so many possible outcomes, it makes it so you discover cards that discover more cards that should never be in your deck and everything gets out of control to the point that you cant play around anything. Who exactly is going to play around dragon lackey giving Dragonqueen alexstrasza giving Ysera unleashed that gives you more random dragons.
But as i said once you realize that this is how the game is meant to be you just stop taking it seriously and move on.

Your approach to the game is fine.. and there is the casual mode for that. HS obviously does not see it that way as they offer the ranked mode, which is means competitiveness. This implies a certain amount of skill, if it wasn't the case we would not see the same names at the top of the ladder regularly. You chose to deny the competitiveness of the game but that doesn't make it a fact. So, if you are just playing casual, which I think you do, based on what you say (playing while taking a crap) no problem. But if you are playing rank then there's a significant cognitive dissonance here.
Couldn't agree more. I remember the times when playing around your opponent's two Flamestrikes was a thing. That's the one thing they got right about Demon Hunter, no random card generation there.

Standard, Wild, and Classic player.
Losing to Sire Denathrius makes me not want to play this game anymore. The Sire Denathrius nerf makes me want to play this game again. Losing to Deathrattle Rogue makes me not want to play this game anymore. The Prince Renathal nerf makes me not want to play this game anymore.
I just think that dragon lackey need to be nerf. The other ones are ok, but choosing a dragon for 1 Mana it's insane. Should be a random dragon not chosing. Rng is fine to me, that's why I'm playing hs for so many years.

i feel the same man, also losing to top decks and bad draws suck
Nothing to see here. Just another butthurt player.

Certainly agree here. Definitely over this dragon package meta. It’s just bleh.
