Last season bronze was your average new guy with shit decks and it was a breeze going through. Now it's almost exclusively people close to my own level. What happened? Did Blizz change something?

becouse blizz force players to meet same players as you self so you might get legned players over players at your rank...
Everything is working fine. Everyone got down to bronze. Plus it was the new expansion many ppl start it then they leave as any other f2p game that shows signs of being p2w unless u grind for a year
Also, why don't you see your opponent's rank anymore? Makes it look like you are facing people of all ranks. Not just the one you are at. Something is definitely fishy with the new system.

Nice conspiracy you have there, it would be a shame if something happened to it - such as the revelation that when you have bonus stars, you are NOT faced against people of your rank but faced with people of similar bonus star multiplier as well as similar MMR. How fishy, it's exactly doing what they said it would do! Something is definitely fishy about it working as intended and announced!
you have a hidden MMR rating that determines your opponents. The ranking system is just kind of a way to stabilize when and where you receive rewards. this way, eventually, people with limited cards & resources will face each other because their MMR is trash in comparison to the people with actual meta decks and decent winrates, and that way everyone can climb the ladder at least to some degree in their own way.
Because Blizzard made a huge mistake in the ranked system overhaul
Its unfathomable to me that Blizzard allows you to face people that aren’t around your rank and instead could be legend based on some hidden system. Now you can have bronze players facing legend players. I’m not sure how this is healthy for the game as you might end up with new players or people with fun decks going against high skill level players. For those of us who play our own homebrews or for fun, the game has become significantly more frustrating.
all I see in wild anymore is Tier 1 decks. I thought it was odd because before the change to the ranked system I saw a good variety of decks. I think that the majority of my matchups were meta decks but a good number were fun decks, meme decks, or whatever you want to call it. Now? Nothing but tier 1-2 and maybe 1/10 or 1/15 matches is not
I had a hunch that something was up and decided to try to add every person I played. 3/4 of what I saw (for those that accepted) were legend rank players or passed rank 3 diamond. If casual wasn’t such a cesspool of gold farmers I’d play there. In fact, I think casual is actually WORSE than ranked ladder because it’s all hyper aggressive aggro trying to get their fucking quota. The devs really should remove the ability to earn gold in casual.
This game already had a netdecking problem and blizzard has only exacerbated it with this system.
No more rushing through the bronze and it sucks. I'll just get my 5 wins for the card back and then I'm done with this ranked crap.
I thought they wanted to make it easier to rank up. Not harder. I was hoping to finally be able to reach legend.
It is easier, sort of. It certainly isn't harder. The new system isn't designed to match you up with people who are better than you, but people of similar results to you. In the short-term of a dozen games, maybe it's "harder" and easier to get stuck, but when you start getting a large quantity of games in it's much easier to get to legend because of the bonus stars and the ceilings in which you can't derank from being more frequent. You don't need as many wins in a row to get to legend as you did when you did in the old system between rank 5 and legend.
The old system made every loss nullify a win in those brackets, the new one doesn't always do that but only sometimes. Everytime you hit rank 10 or rank 5 of a bracket, you can't derank further than that this month. This combined with the new bonus star system means that the further you get in a month, the fewer wins it takes you to reach that again the next one, and because you can't derank as much you can in practice advance your top rank every month by say 5 ranks and in several months that will lead you to legend if you keep advancing just a little bit from your previous top rank, every month.

Or, you know, new season, everyone including legends gets reset to bronze so ummm... nothing weird?

So there are two rank systems in place? Just...why? That just makes it harder for you to reach your old rank every season, then.

To me it seems that you can't see your opponent's rank until after you've climbed your way to legend.

That's Incredible!
