I decided to give a list of what cards i believe to be the most current powerful/broken cards for each class. This is not a salty rant, more of a fun little analysis of cards i think make each class really powerful or just powerful fun cards. I have done it by doing a runner up card for each class and a winner for most broken/powerful. Let me know what you think:
Demon Hunter
Runner up: Twin Slice - I made a separate post about this card, but to keep it short, its one of the most flexible cards ever made, really good and high value, no conditions like other 0 mana cards, Has amazing synergy with other Demon hunter cards and costs 0 mana. Twin Slice is Probs one of the most powerful cards Demon Hunter has.
Winner:Skull of Gul'dan - This card is probs more on the broken side than powerful. When looking at similar Card draw in other classes like Nourish, Hand of Gul'dan and Candle Breath, they dont even come close to the power level of Skull of Gul'dan. A rare card drawing 3 cards, while reducing their cost by a total of 9 for only 6 mana seems so good. I would believe this card would still be really good at 7 or 8 mana, so its 100% possibly the most powerful Demon hunter card at this current time.
Druid:
Runner up:Fungal Fortunes - 2 mana draw 3 cards is always really good. The card to compare this to is Book of Specters which was played a lot in some Mage decks, just as it is such a cheap way to draw cards. Fungal Fortunes however, is a lot better as spells tend to better than most minions and its only a rare. It is a perfect reload card for spell druid, and only a pretty moderate downside.
Winner:Glowfly Swarm - This card is not broken, but incredibly high power level and power creeps a card from Un'goro called Living Mana. Living Mana was pretty powerful, however had some draw backs of being limited to how much mana you had, limits mana you play next turn and Silence effect normally made it high risk to play against Priest. However, Glowfly Swarm has a pretty easy condition to meet, can summon 14/14 worth of stats on turn 5 and the following turn can be buffed withSoul of the Forest or Savage Roar making is super dangerous . Spell druid is Tier 2 and mostly as this card is really high power level and requires a instant board clear to win against it, Also combos well with Fungal Fortunes which is my runner up card.
Hunter:
Runner up: Toxic Reinforcements - This was super close to call as a runner up as Corrosive Breath, Phase Stalker and Rotnest Drake are all really good cards and played alot in hunter, however my gut said the most powerful is still Toxic Reinforcements. Paying 1 mana to summon 3/3 worth of stats which deals 8 damage as a Deathrattle is pretty amazing, but i think the quest itself is really easy to complete and encourages a already good archetype being face hunter. Just a powerful card which is easy to be aggressive with.
Winner:Stormhammer - a 3 mana 3/2 weapon is pretty decent compared to alot of 3 cost weapons, however a weapon which does not break is pretty powerful. This card would be still playable at 4 mana, however at 3 mana it seems a really aggressive weapon in a class which can play a lot of cheap dragons. It can swing for over 10 damage a game with the amount of dragons that Hunter can play without much of an issue. This card is not broken as it does have weakness to weapon removal and not being able to summon enough dragons, however still the most powerful weapon ever printed in the class.
Mage:
Runner up:Ray of Frost - I found Mage hard to choose super powerful cards from as most of there cards have always just been good or above, however i think Ray of Frost wins it as a runner up for me. I Was going to put Fireball, however Fireball [/card]seems less flexible as[card] Ray of Frost and normally used latter on in the game. This card is cheap, a Twinspell and Has many powerful combos like freezing a minion over two turns, freezing two minions and dealing damage. This card is just really good and makes most standard mage lists.
Winner: Puzzle Box of Yogg-Saron - Again this card is not broken and rather fun to play and mostly play against, however made the top spot as a card which can random you into wins. I feel like the amount of removal, board clears and healing are pretty high at the moment so Puzzle Box of Yogg-Saron makes the top spot as being a pretty well played card with a high chance of stealing a game if you can get lucky. However, i find the card rather fun and not oppressive at all, just a good card.
Paladin:
Runner up: Underlight Angling Rod - Paladin was in a pretty tough spot at the start of the expansion, however this card has helped it out of the gutter and making a Murloc deck Tier 1. Underlight Angling Rod is cheap, well stated as a 3 mana 3/2 and gives you two random murlocs, which can be from other classes. I just think its really good more than powerful or broken, however non the less its a really played card at the moment.
Winner: Hand of A'dal - Unlike Underlight Angling Rod i would say Hand of A'dal is really powerful and one of the most powerful 2 cost spells in Standard. It is in every paladin deck list at the moment, even in the aggressive Murloc Paladin as its cheap, draws a card and buffs a minion. I do think this card deserves the top spot as the best Paladin card and it will only get better in the future as more 1-drop minions for the class are printed.
Priest:
Runner up: Soul Mirror - Priest had alot of powerful cards to pick for being a runner up or the top like Grave Runes [/card] and [card]Mass Resurrection . However, for me Soul Mirror is a really good board clear and tempo swinging card. Think about a card which can have the ability to create a board, Copy your opponent minions and clear a board if needed to. This card does all 3 which makes it a really good spell to add to your deck or to Discover.
Winner: Convincing Infiltrator - Most people will call this card broken, I would call it VERY Powerful and poor designed. Even comparing it to Rotnest Drake, which is an insane dragon for hunter, Convincing Infiltrator is still just so much better. It's a minion which has a high health, Taunt and a added deadly shot affect with no condition for a minion of 5 mana. Its in a class which can bring it back to life and create multiply copies. Rotnest Drake has better stats and a much more controlled effect, yet it still can only be played twice as a battlecry unless Discovered and Requires a dragon to be held. Convincing Infiltrator is just so much easier to get value off of and sometimes can act as a mini board clear with cards like Grave Runes. A poor designed card, which is abused alot in the class.
Rogue:
Runner up: Galakrond, the Nightmare - Rogue has many cards which are pretty powerful, however i am going with my gut again and putting Galakrond, the Nightmare in my runner up spot. One of the most powerful Galakrond cards, its creates endless amount of cheap Lackeys through its hero power and invokes. However, the real power of the card comes from its battlecry of drawing up to 4 cards costing 0. Its one of the most biggest tempo swinging cards ever and almost on the brink of being too good.
Winner: Heistbaron Togwaggle - This card is pretty disgusting, not broken yet, but on the brink of being broken. RememberMarin the Fox and his treasures? Now think about how good it was getting a random one? now forget about that and think about how easy togwaggle is to pull off. A random lackey is easy to get from Galakrond, the Nightmare and choosing a treasure gives the card a high amount of flexibility. Add the fact that most the treasures are insane, it can draw you three 0 cost cards and rogue can bounce it back to its hand for 0 mana. Then Heistbaron Togwaggle becomes a bit of a problem.
Shaman:
Runner up:Totemic Reflection - I never thought a totem card would make second place as a powerful card, but Totemic Reflection is pretty good. for 3 mana, giving a totem +2/+2 and summoning a copy can really be good. Getting an extra Mana Tide Totem or EVIL Totem just is so powerful. Even a low cost Totem from your hero power is worth giving the extra stats too which adds some flexibility to the card.
Winner:Splitting Axe [/card]- I REALLY never though i would put a totem card as the most powerful card in Shaman in standard, but this card has proved to be under estimated by almost everyone. It really is scary in Wild in Even Shaman, but in standard, getting a board of totems which can be buffed from [card]Totemic might andTotemic Surge is game winning. I am for one happy to see this card make a come back as being powerful after how lowly rated is was at its released.
Warlock:
Runner up:Nether Breath - This card is so good with a small requirement needing to hold a dragon, however has one of the top 3 best pay off's of any dragon breath cards. Being able to deal 4 damage for 2 mana and restore 4 health in a class which damages their hero a lot is just worth running a dragon to include. Even though Warlock has dropped a bit in the Meta, this card is still run a lot of the time in decklists.
Winner: Galakrond, the Wretched [/card] - Like this card is either REALLY GAME SWINGY Or just useless which i think makes it have top place of being Powerful, yet frustrating. I dont love the design of this card, mostly as its battlecry now since Outlands has become super swingy. [card]Galakrond, the Wretched summoning a Priestess of Fury or an Imprisoned Antaen seems rather crazy, however if it low rolls it is not where near as good. I think this card makes Warlock competitive which is fine as every class needs a good card, however this just feels not very fun to play against. It makes the top of the list for being either too Powerful for cheating out powerful demons or too average if it gets mediocre demons.
Warrior:
Runner up:Risky Skipper - I think this card is more really good than powerful, but a 1 mana 1/3 which has the ability to deal 3 damage to all minions deserves it a spot of the list. Warrior is pretty mediocre at the moment, so this card just makes the class have a flexible ability to clear the board if they are holding minions.
Winner:Brawl- A card which has always just been in every control warrior list. Its so good with normally pretty decent outcomes. A card for 5 mana which as the ability to wipe your opponents board and put you in a more favorable position has taken first spot on my warrior list. Even though Brawl is really good, Warrior needs these cards as they are in a weak position.
Summary:
What do you think of my cards I put as being some of the most Powerful cards in standard? do you agree or disagree with any? Overall we can agree that Decent of Dragons rose the Power level up super high.
I disagree with most of your choice, but I guess it's very subjective anyway. Or from a pure logical point of view we could say that the most broken card in each class are the one with the best draw / play winrate in their respectively best deck.
I feel like Umberwing is underrated for DH, board and weapon on turn 2 ? Yes please.
Also, Rotnest Drake is definitely better than Toxic Reinforcements, no question about it. This card is the reason why the best hunter decks include dragon package (this + Stormhammer)
Regarding Priest, Breath of the Infinite is the best aoe in the game, included in every Priest deck even without dragons.
I think Dark Skies is the best Warlock card. It's just a completely overpowered and entirely too flexible removal card. I talked about it this in the "most hated cards in standard" thread but there is simply no reason why a card should have the capability of removing a wide board and yet also be able to clear large minions too, but that's exactly what this card does. What's this? You have a 3/2, 1/1, 1/1 and 4/4? Ok, I'll play Dark Skies. What's this? You've got an 8/8 Edwin? Ok, I'll play Dark Skies. Completely brainless card.
This type of list is impossible, because cards are rarely EVER OP without synergy with other cards...
The true test would be to take the "classic" build of any class, and add the card... Would that deck suddenly have a 50%+ winrate?
I don't really think any of those cards would individually do anything... Heistbaron Togwaggle would be 'meh' without Rogues crazy Lackey generation...
Stormhammer is only powerful because of Hunter's awesome dragon package... The card would be useless if they had to play vanilla dragons every turn
Hand of A'dal is a great example... Paladin is struggling to get up to a 50% winrate, because it has no buff synergy like Immortal Prelate... That would be AMAZING this expansion.
Your Warrior thoughts are off in my opinion... Risky Skipper is based on certain circumstance.. I dont know why you stopped at 3... You could heal/buff and do 6-7 damage to all minions... Circumstances... It only works with damage/enrage...
Brawl is really circumstantial... if your opponent is playing big minions, you could bone yourself. It has no immediate hard removal.
Right or wrong, thanks for posting an interactive thread! More of this, less posts whining and crying!
