So I have to say, the new ladder was interesting. There were new mechanics, win streaks, star bonuses, first time rewards, lots of cool stuff.
I won't talk about the matchmaker here, plenty of threads on it already. I want to talk about the rewards, which I think is a big part of the reason people are salty about the matchmaker anyway.
If you are a player of limited means, then grinding monthly rewards is a big key to staying in the game. By moving the final monthly pack to legend. You create a need for people to reach legend every month. Then things like 48 hour nerfs, matchmaker and deck order mechanics that slow you down, catch up mechanisms and the rest can really piss you off.
I grinded to legend a few times over the years, but I never needed 2, because the rewards became insignificant once you reached that rank 5 floor. Once there you could play the rest of the month memeing, experimenting, and basically having a good time. You could let the try hards grind to legend and go on about it (as they should, for most it is a lot of work). And it seemed that the community was mostly fine with the set up.
By moving the last free reward to legend, I think Blizzard has set the stage for a very salty community.
I believe that there were too little legend players or the legend players were becomming less and less due to the "no need to get to legend because i have my golden epic anyway" that blizzard decided that they should do something about it to keep the community playing...
I dont know exactly, but I think this is the reasoning behind it.

I think the same moment mostly of the people reach legend for the free legendary, the number will drop again.
Yes, I did for the Legendary card, But I don't think the numbers will drop. Once you reach D5 going for Legend is not as grindy as it was before. Once you've reached Legend though there's an unpleasant surprise, your rank starts plummeting when you don't play. You have to keep playing to at least maintain your rank. Sux. If you are on losing streak...you dive big time. Blizz should implement floors as well at Legend level, like a floor every 1000 ranks.
I've honestly had exactly the opposite experience. I didn't have trouble climbing until Diamond 5. Now it's kind of an endless loop. I get to Rank 4, I get knocked out, so on and so forth.
The point is that in order to maximize your monthly rewards, you have to reach legendary. And that is going to be a harder grind than making the rank 5 floor was. This in turn will lead to a saltier community and will ultimately hurt the game.
Blizzard hopes to inspire spending with the change over the long haul, but instead, I think they will lose even more customers.

A hard grind? Absolutely not. This season there will be hundreds if not thousands of players of players, like me, reaching Legend for the first time. I was able to to it because of the Bonus stars that helped me reach rapidly D5. Next season, these players will benefit from the 10 bonus stars again. From D5, reaching Legend should not be too difficult.

I see the logic here but it is impossible. Because those numbers at the legend rank show your position, and every player has their unique legend rank number I believe. Just imagine 10000 people reach the 10000 legend ranked floor. because they cant drop down, no one else can climb up either, cuz every number is specific to a player.

That's a good point but there is a way around it. As you climb at Legend level and get close to a floor, you should be able meet to the lower ranked players of the upper floor. If you beat this opponent you take his place.
Honestly the one pack is absolutely not worth the grind. If you have fun while playing and reach legend, then it's worth it for sure, but if you don't have fun you really shouldn't push to legend anyways.
If you spend 5 getting to legend form diamond 5 just for this one pack, that's almost the same as working for $0,20 an hour in a supermarket, which is also absolutely not worth it. If you really want the pack, just buy 2 packs once you hit diamond 5 and be happy that you got your pack and can play meme decks on diamond 5 right away.
Of course I don't know about you, but some people generally don't want to spend money on games like Hearthstone, because they think it's a waist of money, but really it's way better to spend $2 and have fun for 5 hours than spend nothing and not have fun for 5 hours. At least I prefer to 'waist' $2 than to waist 5 hours.
On a side note: I do think legend needed better rewards than one golden common over rank 5, because you want to feel rewarded for reaching the highest rank. I myself am legend this month, but that was because I went 15-0 with Demon Hunter right after it released in an hour. Next month I'll probably stay at diamond 5, and yet I think the extra pack is a much better reward than what it used to be for legend players.

Honestly, I just want that free legendary for dust more than anything else.

I am trying to get legend this month only cuz legendary.

The difference between d5 and legend is one pack so if it is stressful for you, just dont do it, it is not worth it.
Already did it. will continue to do it every month. I just think it sucks. I would rather have fun at R5 than grind the meta.
That is solid reasoning. I just don't like it.
