So, I had some more thought about the new ranking system where match-making will be solely based on MMR. Please see my points below and tell me if there is any flaw in my logic anywhere (or if I misinterpreted any information)... If not, after a couple of months, everybody, no matter how skilled, will reach legend with the same amount of effort, because:
All players will be matched against players with similar MMR. (Independent of their current rank, or star multiplier; you can check HSReplay and various comments on this site regarding matches between legend rank and as low as platinum ranks)
That means that eventually all players will have around 50% winrate, ‘good’ players and ‘bad’ players.
(If you win more than 50%, your MMR will rise, and you will be paired against other players with higher MMR, which will lower your winrate. If you win less, your MMR will drop, you will be matched against other players with lower MMR and you will win more... in a couple of months, everybody will be player at their MMR level and will win 50% of their games.)
If everybody wins around 50% of their games, they will easily reach diamond5. Because of a) the star multiplier and b) the win streak bonus.
(In the first months the ‘good’ players will reach diamond5 way quicker than the ‘bad’ players, because of the star multiplier they start with, but since the win streak bonus lasts until diamond5 and everybody will have a 50% winrate independent of their rank or MMR, you will reach diamond5 by simply playing games).
This is the big difference between the new and the old system. In the old system RANK meant something. If you could not reach rank 5 even with the winstreak bonus, it was probably because the other players in the same rank were better than you (and you reached your skill-limit). Now you will be matched against other players with your MMR and you will eventually get to any rank up to diamond5, because of your 50% win rate + winstreak bonus. (even without starbonus)
From diamond5 to legend you will need to achieve a 50%+ winrate (unless you have a very high MMR and have a star bonus even there) and since you will still play against people with your MMR this is just as hard for ‘bad’ players as for ‘good’ players.
Is there a flaw in this reasoning? I very much hope so, because if the above is true, your rank does not mean anything at all.. The only thing that tells anything about how good you are is your (hidden) MMR or your legend rank number...
As another bad player, I'm also not legend yet. Still just Diamond 10 here.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
After doing my research I found out that the pink 'stuff' that appeared onto hearthstone cards must, in fact, have been coronavirus. It has through hearthstone spread across the globe and infected all computers. And because too few people played hearthstone with plastic gloves on they got infected through their computer. Thus coronavirus is Hearthstone's fault and I expect a total of 3 packs from each expansion to be given to all coronavirus victims.
But that is probably because you had a low star bonus beginning of this season, right? I mean, it makes absolute sense that you are not at a higher rank now, but at this stage you should theoretically still win 50% of your matches. And with the win streak bonus you should be able to get higher (be it somewhat slower).
Suppose you climb to platinum5 end of this season, then your starbonus will be higher next season and you will climb, with the same effort and skill, to a higher rank next season... After 2 or 3 seasons you WILL get to diamond5, even with a low MMR. You just need to win 50% of your games..
From diamond5 onwards you play against people of the same MMR as you have. So, Independent of your skill, this is just as hard for good players (who play against other good players) as for bad players (who play against other bad players)
Your logic is basically sound, but I still think you made an incorrect assumption for playing between diamond 5 and legend:
Stating that you "just need 50% +" winrate already means that you have to be a decent enough player (or spent enough time/money to afford an easy to pilot Top Tier net deck)
Of course we'd need to clarify what you exactly mean by "bad player". If we just assume it stands for low experience and a f2p monetary basis, then I'd say those will still be stuck between diamond 5 and 1 max.
They will not. It does give a certain feeling of a push through ranks when you are lower level player, but it will not stop players from making mistakes in the first place.
Once MMR settles out, and stars are given out everywhere, most "bad" players will be stuck between a couple of rank floors until some of them "finally" pass into another one.
Also, there is no star bonus after a certain rank.
Trash players would reach legend anyway as long as they could play alot. The only thing that changed with the dh class and the new rank system is the amount they need to play. The game is for casuals. It has been for years. If you want skill expression play other ccgs.

This. I got to diamond 5 with a fairly scrub rng-spell mage. I am playing. For fun. Not trying to rank up but there’s point in Casual so why not?
When star multiplayer ends Your rank does matter, so if You are bad player You will quicker get to the rank where it matters so You will have harder time getting up.
It works so that it is quicker to get to some rank where You will be stuck unless You play actually good. If someone was around rank 10 player they will be in platinum. If rank 5 they will be in diamond etc. You can always be lucky or play easy decks, which will take You to legend no matter of Your skill level, but then again it was the same in old rank system.
If all good players get to legend quicker it might be easier to do it for medium skill level players, but the bad or meme players will likely have just as hard time as in old system.
They also said You can't taunt Your mmr for easier time later, so I'm not sure if there's that much of a difference, besides more fun and better rewards for getting better.
Also there are more safe points. Where You can't loose stars. So that might help. Although I use it to experiment and I really like that change.
Even with the old system, it was possible to climb from rank 5 to legend with a 48% winrate if you played enough games.
The new system makes it easier to reach legend, but not because of the MMR based matchmaking. -There are more rank floors, which effectively discount more losses while climbing. -You need less stars from after the winstreak bonus stars are gone. -High legend players keep their bonus stars all the way up to their finish the previous season. They can still have bonus stars at legend!
Another burning question is if tanking your MMR to makie climbing the ranks easier. Blizzard has stated this does NOT help, but as long as you recover your MMR once you reach your goal, there should not be a problem. Next season also gives you bonus stars based on MMR OR rank, whichever is higher.

If a bad player can easily reach legend then you are golden mate
No they won’t.
Im a bad player and stuck at gold 4.
Rusty Recycler
Ironic. It could recycle others, but not itself.
Thank you for your well-structured feedback.
Bad players gonna be bad.

But it will be interesting to see!
Once your star multiplier runs out/reaches 1, you're matched by rank, not by MMR, according to the FAQ
I stoped playing HS 2 years ago, at this season i restarted playing. I get a star Bonus to gold 1 (@ Platin i havent a Bonus).
2 years ago i hit rank 4, because of Corona i Had mouch time but needed 10 hours to go through Platin.
Now on Diamond are the Same enemys, fast DH'S Gala warlocks... Face hunter ist fine against them, I think the Rank system ist good.
That solves everything! Thank you! Where is this FAQ you are referring to?

matchmaking is only based on MMR until your star Bonus reaches Zero. Thn matchmaking will be done by rank. There was a clarification About this
Even with the old system, it was possible to climb from rank 5 to legend with a 48% winrate if you played enough games.
The new system makes it easier to reach legend, but not because of the MMR based matchmaking.
-There are more rank floors, which effectively discount more losses while climbing.

Is the number of wins needed from Diamond 5 to legend the same as it was from previous rank 5 to Legend?
Cause if it is I dont think it will be any easier or harder than it was before, will likely be the same grind it was.
