The intention of the matchmaker is not to have people reach their natural rank based on skill. It is to attempt to provide 50/50 chance at winning each game. This is part of blizzard focusing on player engagement. If a good player walks through most of their games, they won't keep grinding. If a bad player gets smoked every time even with a tier 1 deck, they won't keep playing.
There are also other things built into the game engine for blizzard to reach desirable outcomes, such as inspiring/rewarding spending, limiting amount of time players play in a day, and putting plateaus in place to limit progression.
So don't go by the responses you get here, the vitriol directed at you is intended to shut down the discussion. By calling you stupid, a bad player, a tinfoil hat, they are trying to teach you not to talk about these things.
That's a bullshit reason then. How can you attempt 50/50 chance? So if I construct counter meta deck, i will not be match against meta players, because then it would not be 50/50? Because if they did, then it wouldn't be 50/50 anymore. What about people using broken decks, like all those people who got legend playing prenerf demon hunter? Did the system failed, or was it rigging the matchmaking by making them all play each other?
Honestly, it's such a stupid goal. Let people play, and naturally better players will rise. Allow bigger streaks for it to happen happen and you're done. Now it's seems like instead of properly testing the cards, blizzard is trying to rig the matchmaking.
matchmaking is only based on MMR until your star Bonus reaches Zero. Thn matchmaking will be done by rank. There was a clarification About this
Can't be cuz I'm in legend 164 and played a D3
If your mmr was high enough, you could het 11 bonus stars I think. Therefore it‘s possible for your opponent to still have bonus stars even on diamond 3
I've been playing since Old Gods and never hit legend yet. I own most of the cards through out the years and I just never cared too much about my rank to climb. If a play like me can hit legend, there's a problem because I literally never play Meta decks for more than 3 or 4 games if at all.
I probably have a 49% career winrate on ladder and don't see myself making it past Gold 1 unless I actually try, which, given the new rewards, I might. My highest rank in the old system was probably rank 6 or 7 back in Un'Goro when I kinda tried to push for Legend for about a week. I'll try a similar push this season and update this comment if i get any remarkable results.

The tendency of any MMR system is to try to pull the participants to a 50% winrate by inproving their value when they win and rewarding less for wins against weaker opponents. Tennis and Chess ranking work in the same way.
But how can the very best and the very worst players in the system have a 50% winrate? They obviously can't, but Magnus Carlsen's (NO1 chess player) "MMR" will still never spiral completely out of control as a very high MMR is very punishing when he occationally loses, and he doesn't earn many poinst with most wins.
You need a very good winrate just to defend a high MMR. People trying to end high a season in high legend in Hearthstone will know all about this, and they often just stop playing after a good streak.
Also MMR does not account for your deck. Starcraft 2 actually has separeate ladders for each of the 3 races, but that is not the case for heartstone. If you play a shitty deck and lose in ranked, you will lose MMR and be matched vs slightly easier opponents. If you play a strong deck and win, the opposite will happen.

For the record, I agree with you completely. I hate the way it is set up. However, knowing how it is set up may lessen your frustration and allow you to develop strategies to counter what they do. I find quick conceding against bullshit and learning how to enjoy memeing at the rank 5 floor to be the proper response to such a silly system.
Nothing new. Legend has been being "made" by average everyday players for a while now. The game has gone 100% casino-vegas so just choose the latest bull shit, broken deck and play a lot. Legend. Wooptie Effing Do. The power creep and "game over cards" is at an all time high. The only good thing is that it allows mentally challenged people to rank up. Cool, eh?

But that is probably because you had a low star bonus beginning of this season, right? I mean, it makes absolute sense that you are not at a higher rank now, but at this stage you should theoretically still win 50% of your matches. And with the win streak bonus you should be able to get higher (be it somewhat slower).
Suppose you climb to platinum5 end of this season, then your starbonus will be higher next season and you will climb, with the same effort and skill, to a higher rank next season... After 2 or 3 seasons you WILL get to diamond5, even with a low MMR. You just need to win 50% of your games..
From diamond5 onwards you play against people of the same MMR as you have. So, Independent of your skill, this is just as hard for good players (who play against other good players) as for bad players (who play against other bad players)
Yes by this logic you are correct. But the win streak bonus diminishes later and in theory once you get up amongst the better players your win rate won’t be over 50%
Actually reaching diamond 5 or higher rank is very difficult for players who didn`t get a 10+ rank earlier, because with no star bonus getting ranks up is really tough.
can't be bothered to play more than like 20 ladder games a month for quite some time, theres just no point
got legend couple months back, herpdiderp, means nothing. got every card i pretty much want, why the balls even play. not that you could prove your skill in this game anyway, and now dh is already pretty damn boring to play after a couple days i'm not coming back to it for like 4 months. it's not gonna get better obviously, will eventually get nerfed into the ground and barely exist

yeah, that's the right approach. You need rank floors to decompress. But I felt like after a streak of loosing in rank 5, i would encounter far easier opponents. Such a system is ripe for abuse and being gamed. Legend rank means a lot less now.
I play for many years, start few weeks before Nax and never have the patient to get legend, I like play my own creations and always stuck in rank 5 before, get legend for the first time today with rogue secret, yes, it is easier now.
nah, this just means that win streaks of a lucky player or a cheese deck for a certain rank are getting shut down by a more experienced/smarter player/better deck more often, so you won't climb as fast. It supposed to bracket players better and reduce opponent waiting time.
So finished my grind again this month, this time with face hunter.....feeds on dh. Please blizzard move the last pack back to rank 5 so I don't have to do this shit every month.

Ironic. It could recycle others, but not itself.
In theory this, in theory that. That's all I keep hearing about this new ranking system.
Why don't you just play the game and put these theories to the test?

Dude, just play any brainless 50% winrate deck and you can easily reach legend after playing 100+ games. Stop complain
it was super easy to get legned with DH after nerf its harder again
Already 23k legend (atleast) on EU half way through the month. Blizz serously need to fix this, way to easy.
I play for many years, start few weeks before Nax and never have the patient to get legend, I like play my own creations and always stuck in rank 5 before, get legend for the first time today with rogue secret, yes, it is easier now.
Is there some website to see Legend numbers? I too got it now, Wild, without playing demon hunter.

Last month plat 1, now plat 6.
